  1. I was wondering if anyone has any general practice doctor recommendations for Kelsey Seybold's Tanglewood Clinic. My dermatologist is at this location. I was just shopping around. Thanks for any input!
  2. With the older buildings you run into a very high monthly maintenance fee. I think Four Leaf runs over 40 cents a sq ft. The best ones in my opinion without money being an option -- The Huntingdon hands down. The monthlies are awful though. Other than that anything by Interfin or Randall Davis. Four Leaf, Villa d Este, Montebello, Manhattan, Empire, or the Cosmopolitan. Also been a sucker for the Houstonian. All the luxuries of the hotel at your finger tips and included in the fee. Looking to save green go to the Campton at Post Oak. Great units and cheaper per month. Other than this I have been to the Bristol and it is great. A lot of foreclosures in there though. You wonder if the maintenance fee will be hit because of no one paying it. Maybe theyll fire the valet.
  3. Bering Drive Church of Christ is for sale. Talk about high profile property! The asking price of $26 million seems very high to me. This one might sit for a while. 1910 Bering Drive - 4 Acres of Residential Land Offered at $26,136,000 USD. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/1910-Bering-Dr-Houston-TX/27637533/
  4. In one of my master's classes I have having to do a report on fire and building codes. My prof told me to look into the Woodway Square Apartments. From what I have been told it was a massive apartment complex that burned in 1979. Does anyone have any information about them? Like former residents, how they were set up or anything. I guess they all have been torn down becasue I went over there and everything looks pretty new...
  5. The Cineplex Odeon Spectrum on Augusta opened in June 1988 and closed in 2001 when Loews entered bankruptcy proceedings. I miss that place - it was the state-of-the-art of Houston theaters in its day as far as presentation standards, and had several screens with 70mm capability (a relative rarity by the 1990s). Seeing a stunning 70mm print of the 1989 restoration of LAWRENCE OF ARABIA there on a huge screen was one of the most memorable filmgoing experiences I've ever had.
  6. http://tanglewoodproperty.com/5599-san-felipe/ http://i.imgur.com/zo6SvC0.jpg The proposed fitness center has been on the books for a year or two. I visit the site once a month so I keep looking. http://i.imgur.com/qw8DFMQ.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3NE7G5N.jpg Image credits: Tanglewood Property Group

  8. I was browsing the publication Houston's forgotten heritage : landscape, houses, interiors, 1824-1914 and came across an article about Beatty's Truck Farm. Dancing at Beatty's Truck Farm, Sunday afternoon ca. 1900. North Post Oak Road wat Woodway, north side of Buffalo Bayou. Left to right: Harry and James W. Kennedy, Archie and Mitty Beatty, Sam Kennedy. Truck farms located on the outskirts of Houston produced fruits and vegetables that were sold from the farmers' wagons at the City Market on Market Square. Noted for its superior watermelons, the Beatty farm abutted Post Oak Road and Camp Logan (now Memorial Park) on the east. On Sunday afternoons Archie and Mitty Beatty entertained their friends with dancing under the pine trees. During hot weather the refreshments included watermelons iced down in large barrels.
  9. I was researching the names of local streets within the Texas Medical Center. An old street from the 1990s called William C Harvin Blvd. is about to expire and will be replaced with a TMC Helix Park name instead. William C Harvin Blvd. is a street located between South Braeswood Blvd. and Old Spanish Trail. Used to be the street you took to get to the TMC surface lot that is now the TMC Helix Park campus. William C. "Bill" Harvin III, who first worked as a high school intern at the Houston law firm Baker Botts and later became its managing partner. Harvin joined Baker Botts after the war and became a partner in 1956. He retired in 1984. A leader in community organizations and causes, Harvin served as a trustee of St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston and of the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest in Austin. He also was board chairman of the Kelsey Research Foundation. “It all began with David’s father,” Sally says. William C. Harvin III was a long time member of the UTHealth Development Board serving until his death in 2007. He also was chairman of the Texas Medical Center Board of Directors. For his service on the board of the Texas Medical Center, a street in the center was named in his honor in 1996. https://www.chron.com/news/houston-deaths/article/William-Harvin-lawyer-at-Houston-firm-Baker-1529149.php https://www.uth.edu/giving/impact-stories/sally-and-david-harvin-a-family-tradition My research spanned 50 years. I understand he was 3rd generation of William C. Harvins (William C. Harvin III) so maybe the home addresses are of different family members. Or, like many people, he simply moved a few times in the span of 50 years. Southwestern Times dated November 28, 1946: William Harvin lived at 2634 Sunset Blvd. Southwestern Times dated August 2, 1951: William Harvin lived at 4328 Jim West Street. The Bellaire & Southwestern Texan dated February 9, 1966: William Harvin lived at 111 Maple Valley Road. The Texan dated April 9, 1986: William Harvin lived at 111 Maple Valley Road.
  10. I was reading the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated June 8, 1950 and discovered William Harrington's residential home. William G. Farrington, 5345 Woodway, president of the Houston Public Schools Board, brought on a walkout by two members of the board (Ewing Werlein and Dr. Henry A. Peterson) when he called for the appointment of Attorney Leon Jaworsky, 3722 Rio Vista, to the board to fill the unexpired term of C.W. MacPhail.
  11. elnina999 has added a photo to the pool: Marathon Oil Tower is a skyscraper in Uptown Houston. Each year Marathon Oil Tower celebrates the opening of the Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo with an award-winning event. Click here to view this photo at the HAIF Photo Pool on Flickr
  12. They are opening another bakery on Chimney Rock. "Located in a former Murphy's Deli, the new Three Brothers will occupy a 1,300-square-foot space in the center that's anchored by a Walgreens pharmacy." https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/04-07-22-three-brothers-bakery-new-location-tanglewood-center-janice-bobby-jucker/
  13. JLL is listing the remainder of the site for sale...0.69 acres. Looks like it was planned for high rise multifamily. 516171036_4944WoodwayFlyer.pdf
  14. I just received a post card I bought off eBay. It is an image of the YMCA building from about the time it was first built. The image is not a photograph. It looks more like a print of a watercolor. It is very neat and I'm glad I have something to remember the 'Y' by. I used to work out there when my office was nearby. I even used to get my hair cut at the barber shop on the first floor. Lately I've been going to the Trotter Y on Augusta.
  15. Noticed a sitework & foundation plan review permit today. There was only a (1) sub project so I don't think it's an actual new development? Sounds like this is a condo foundation repair. Wanted to post a thread in case something happens in a few months. Address is 5777 Sugar Hill Dr.
  16. Noticed some permitting activity lately. Called someone related to the project and they confirmed the London Square Townhomes will be demolished. The owner/developer is Endeavor Real Estate Group out of Austin. They're website does not have any Houston properties listed. Hopefully they enter the market with a splash! https://www.endeavor-re.com/ DMRE's old property flier. I've noticed DMRE's properties usually have a high chance of fast redevelopment. Waste water and sewer disconnect permits. Demolition should come next!
  17. I noticed Stream Realty is leasing One and Three Waterway. Odd how they are not leasing Two Riverway as well. Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/3-Riverway-Houston-TX/3940443/ Property website: https://www.riverwayhouston.com/
  18. Two Riverway is for sale and is currently Under Contract. The property is being marketed by JLL/Transwestern. Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2-Riverway-Houston-TX/26121052/
  19. Project Name: Torrey Chase Apartments Location Address: 1800 St. James Place Start Date: 1/15/2022 Completion Date: 11/1/2023 Estimated Cost: $25,000,000 Scope of Work: New construction of a Four-story Apartment Project with One story Community Building Square Footage: 270,264 ft 2
  20. Looks like Pelican has a new project once The Wilshire is finished. 17 stories and 58 units. There's a render in PaperCityMag but I am too dumb to figure out how to post it here. Expecting to break ground summer of 2016. http://www.papercitymag.com/interiors/the-homey-high-rise-new-houston-tower-6300-woodway-places-comfort-over-gadgets/#2 http://www.papercitymag.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/6300_Wooday-465x620.jpg
  21. San Felipe at Augusta is a new listing on Loopnet. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/5850-San-Felipe-St-Houston-TX/16738257/ http://www.capcommercialrealestate.com/listings/5850-san-felipe-street/
  22. I had a talk with a neighbor today. He said there was a sign being assembled in front of The Bordeaux Apartments before COVID hit. The sign never got assembled. Woodway is such a prime address for an old 2-story building. Potential redevelopment soon?
  23. The Randall's stores at 9660 Westheimer (near Gessner), 1407 Voss (between Woodway and San Felipe), and 14610 Memorial (at Dairy Ashford) were all Handy Andy stores.
