I was walking around Rice Village recently (pushing a stroller) and noted how poor some of the streets/curbs and infrastructure appeared. There are numerous areas where the curbs have no ramps and you are literally forced to walk in the street or through parking lots. This is really surprising to me given the number of young families with children in the immediate area, and the proximity to the medical center (and thus likely use by people in wheelchairs.) The village is really one of the major 'public faces' of Houston to the outside world, likely to be visited by out of town families of

Here are my photos so far. I have some more I have to take of this really cool wall they have left standing all by itself. I keep wondering how it stays up because there is nothing to brace it. I guess they are waiting for it to fall on its own. I will head over there this afternoon and add to these. I took these two weeks ago: http://www.tropicaltexans.com/images/Houston/tcfeb05.jpg From the TGI Friday's lot perpendicular to the Tollway. http://www.tropicaltexans.com/images/Houston/tcfeb05-2.jpg Same angle. http://www.tropicaltexans.com/images/Houston/tcfeb05-3.j

I am now living in Los Angeles, but on a recent trip to Houston, I saw the difference in retail outlets in the Galleria and even Highland Village. Both places have gotten pretty big chains and specialty stores, like Burberry, Dior, Bose, Jimmy Choo, and Luca Luca. Although most people don't care for this, since it is outside of most people's reach, I work in this industry, doing marketing for luxury brands, and I know that stores moving into a city at this pace signifies growth and confidence that the city is chic enough and diversified enough to open shop. In Houston, there have been 13 s

Is this guy b.s. or what? I haven't heard anything about it: "Dudes and Ladies, I was very upset when I heard from a business owner in River Oaks Plaza that later this year, early next, they are getting rid of the theater to put in a 30 story high-rise. word is, they are axing black eyed pea too, for a multi-level parking garage." You can read the rest here: http://members.boardhost.com/hands_up/msg/1151627265.html Anyone know anything?

Highland Village is one of the best shopping areas in Houston. I think that Houston needs more of theses type of shopping areas. I just wish that the shopping was closer to the road (More Urban), but it's great how it is. Does anyone know of any new shopping areas going up that area comparable to Highland Village?

Metronational is almost finished their new 40,000+ shopping center at Briar Forest and BW8 across from Revere Middle School. I am very excited since I live in Walnut Bend which is a stones throw away. My wife and I have a bet on what services are going in there and what will eventually be on the pad sites. There is no question that 1 or 2 bank buildings will occupy the pads. Hopefully a non fast food restuarant will take the other pad(s). As for inline tenants. I am fully expecting a Hair Place (Supercuts, Fantastic Sams, etc etc). There will be a nail saloon for sure. Prob
