  1. I've been here a lot lately. Loving Rustika Cafe & Bakery, Thai Bistro, and 100% Taquito. The shopping center has a great view of Greenway Plaza and Upper Kirby. Just wanted to make a thread for future happenings. https://davisholdingslp.com/summit-square-entry/
  2. My old boss did plans for this shopping center back in the 80s or 90s. I also helped with the drawings for the Chase bank addition on the corner. This shopping center is anchored by the famous Belden's Supermarket.
  3. This shopping center located at 5400 - 6810 Bellaire Blvd. has some history. First opened in February 1956. I've been visiting this center a lot lately. Bernie's Burger Bus is addicting! Figured I'd make a thread to keep track of the comings & goings. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/5400-6810-Bellaire-Blvd-Bellaire-TX/11995514/

  5. To anyone who has lunched at Grand Lux in the Galleria area, I have a couple of questions. How well-lit is the resturant at lunchtime, and do you remember what is the price range of the lunch menu (if they have one)? I've looked at the website, but the online menu doesn't show any prices. Thanks in advance.
  6. http://www.houstonlocalfoods.com/ grand opening tomorrow on westheimer and kirby in the old taco milagro location and this new Local Foods location will have an extended menu, FULL bar and open later until 9pm! cannot wait!
  7. Hi everyone, I didn't see any topic about this so I will post it. So this is an HEB on San Felipe and Fountain view and on the south of this lot it's reserved for a 5 acre 400 room high end apartments. I will try to post pictures every week or two. 1. 8. Saw the sign for this when I was going home yesterday. Seems a bit underwhelming. Wasn't this site being considered for the soccer statium at one point? http://docs.newquest.com/brochures/uptown-crossing.pdf
  9. Does anyone go to CM’s Hatch Chili Festival, or anyone else’s? This is the first year we have done so. Hatch peppers only come out once a year for about two weeks at the end of August. We normally buy about 15 or so pounds of them and roast them on the grill. This year we bought a whole case, and CM roasted them on the spot in a large drum with a propane burner. I love Hatch peppers, and Michelle makes a great Green Chili Stew with them. It is chock full of melt-your-mouth goodness! Any other Hatch lovers out there. Anyone going to Central Market this weekend, or next?
  10. Does anyone have the scoop on the new 24hr Fitness in the Plaza on Richmond (at 610 and Richmond)? It looks like it will be a two story facility. Wondering if it will be like the one downtown.
  11. I was walking around Rice Village recently (pushing a stroller) and noted how poor some of the streets/curbs and infrastructure appeared. There are numerous areas where the curbs have no ramps and you are literally forced to walk in the street or through parking lots. This is really surprising to me given the number of young families with children in the immediate area, and the proximity to the medical center (and thus likely use by people in wheelchairs.) The village is really one of the major 'public faces' of Houston to the outside world, likely to be visited by out of town families of Rice university students, and out of town medical center patients and families (I see the shuttle buses from the medical center hotels dropping them off frequently.) As such, I really can't understand the lack of investment in the roads and curbs in the village area and I'm really surprised someone hasn't brought an ADA lawsuit. Are sidewalks and curbs in commercial areas the responsibility of the city or the property owner to maintain?
  12. I get the weekly Recon report from the Real Estate Center and the following snipet was in there. I think someone was mentioned that Almeda Mall was being torn down. Maybe a new owner will be able to bring some fresh ideas to Northwest Mall. That place is a dump (granted I have not been there in 10 years - so it might be nicer). MALLS FOR SALE HOUSTON (chron.com)
  13. Always offering the very latest, The Woodlands Mall recently welcomed five new, sought-after retailers to the shopping center. Additionally, a number of retailers have been moving to new locations and improving shopping environments for visitors. Recent additions to the list of retailers include: Oil & Vinegar, described as a fashion food for food, opened earlier this year on the lower level near the Courtyard Shops. A fun shopping experience for the novice or the gourmet cook, the shelves at Oil & Vinegar are filled with treats such as Italian white truffle oil, raspberry vinegar, pastas, relish, dip and more. Sona MedSpa, a nationally known luxury spa recently opened in the office component of the shopping center. Sona provides laser hair removal and anti-aging services. The Woodlands Mall is only the second Houston location for one of the nation
  14. So I pass by Summit Place or Plaza, right next to Lakewood Church/Compaq Cente/Summit, and that project look totally idiotic. First I noticed that the pyramid shaped caps on the towers were way out of proportion to the rest of the building (all the had to do was copy the cap on the Mercedes dealership next door) then they are building a garage behind it that you can see is towering over it from the freeway. Doesn't look like the architects did any mass models! To top it off, the garage look like it will be unfinished concrete while the store fronts are brick! Talk about another uninspired project for Houston. I was hoping that something good would be built there. I also hate the Spanish Colonial strip malls they built on the other side of the freeway, replete with the fake tile roofs. Why can't the city embrace some modern architecture for once?
  15. Hearing that Kickerillo's new center across from HP (249 & Louetta) will include a Central Market along with Pottery Barn and other anchors (with whispers of a Nordstrom's or Neiman Marcus).
  16. "Can someone tell me what happened to the Borders at Meyerland? I thought it was doing SO WELL!!! " Isn't it still there? The Planet Music closed...
  17. Maybe I am posting this in the wrong section, but I live in Meyerland and I have often wondered why we do not have a Super Walmart in the SW Houston/Meyerland area. We have a normal Walmart off of South Post Oak and 610 (which is always REALLY crowded), but not a Super WM. Anyone else think there needs to be one?
  18. Past Shopping Places in Houston That Are No Longer Here. Name places you can remember.
  19. Didn't know if anyone was privy to what, if anything, will be added to Gulfgate. There is still the huge empty land between 610 and Donaraki. Also there appears to be some kind of construction action in the parking lot in front of the Marshalls.
  20. Houston-based AmReit has bought Uptown Park, a Galleria-area retail center developed by Giorgio Borlenghi's Interfin, for $68.8 million. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3208551
  21. I am now living in Los Angeles, but on a recent trip to Houston, I saw the difference in retail outlets in the Galleria and even Highland Village. Both places have gotten pretty big chains and specialty stores, like Burberry, Dior, Bose, Jimmy Choo, and Luca Luca. Although most people don't care for this, since it is outside of most people's reach, I work in this industry, doing marketing for luxury brands, and I know that stores moving into a city at this pace signifies growth and confidence that the city is chic enough and diversified enough to open shop. In Houston, there have been 13 store openeings of a high caliber, those found in Rodeo Dr or 5th Ave. 10 years ago, that would have been impossible, I think that Houston is on the ap like never before. But those are just my thoughts. Though it is not the architecture phenomenon we all wish for, at least people visiting---for pleasure or business---will see the Gucci store or the Sony Style store and not feel that they are in a country town with big freeways. Not to up-play it, but this type of thing makes a difference when producers look for a city to host a show in, like the REAL WORLD or and awards show. It puts us on the cultural map. What do you guys think? Treader
  22. Updates and photos for Sugar Land Town Square will go here.
  23. Any news on the new hotel? What company is building it? Holiday Inn, Ramada, is it going to be the "franchise" hotel? or a High-rise? Whats in store for Katy's future?
