  1. Has anyone ever been to Ouisie's Table? I drive past this restaurant, and retail center, several times a week. I see it's American food. How does it compare to Grace's down the block on Kirby? I just looked at their menu. Impressive brunch drinks! I'd love a Perfect Peach Bellini made with Peach Schnapps, Texas Peach Sorbet, Prosecco. Let's do a Carafe for $32! I'm not sure of the name of the retail center. The center a long San Felipe also contains JANUS et Cie, Cotton Club Collection, and Leicht Houston. Photo of the street signage I took today.
  2. I just heard the latest demo rumors. Apparently the Roll-N Saloon At 4200 San Felipe Street, Houston, TX (or rather the little strip center it's in) is slated for demo and to be replaced by an 'upscale retail center.' Could this be part of another project? I have zero confirmation, but my buddy at work just read it on his Houston Aggie alum forum. Too bad. That's the sort of neighborhood bar I wish we had more of. LeRoy Melcher / Melcher Investments.
  3. Noticed a Lewis Property Company leasing sign this weekend. Didn't that furniture company move here from down the street? It failed at this location too? Dang.
  4. John F. Staub designed the house for Hugh Roy Cullen which was located at 1620 River Oaks Blvd.
  5. I saw a sign for this at 3302 Branard St. which made me believe it was for that building but the sign board shows 3315 Mercer address. https://www.covingtoncommercialhtx.com
  6. Has anyone ever shopped at the Plants n' Petals flower shop located at 3810 Westheimer Road? I always buy my flowers and plants from Central Market across the street. I wonder how they are different? Maybe buying from Plants n' Petals is supporting a local business whereas buying from CM is supporting a billion dollar corporation. Although, HEB/Central Market is a fantastic company to support! Love the unique grow houses/green houses.
  7. I haven't been to Chuy's in a while. My father and I used to come here on our weekly meetups. What does everyone think about the food here at Chuy's? I think the chips are a little too think and broken. I'm not a fan of their house salsa either, I don't like that salsa fresca. I prefer other types of salsa like a ranchero or habanero salsa. Malina's in Bellaire (or Southside Place) has a unique salsa. One of their house salsa has vinegar, or pickle juice added. It's a little tangy! Does anyone else think Chuy's needs a parking garage? Their surface lot is considerably small for the amount of business they bring. Since the pandemic, they also took some of the surface lot for to-go orders. Looking on Google Maps, there is a lot of space. However, it's kind of extravagant to build a garage for a restaurant. I believe, in due time, this parcel will be combined with the retail parcel to the left and sold for high-rise development. It's a lot of space in a high valued area, and single-story buildings will be phased out.
  8. I just finished reading the latest posts on the apparant fate of the Shamrock and it got me to thinking. Where are the business people with great vision in this town? Why aren't those like Jim Macinvale investing in huge projects? Why do they seem to invest only enough to get by? The little I do know about Houstons history shows extreme vision on the part of men like Hoffeinz etc. These were men that loved this city and wanted to see it leep over other cities with one fell swoop. Houston has so much potential and I just can't understand why no local has taken the reigns to push it to the next level.
  9. I was reading the newspaper The Houston Post. June 3, 1924 and came across an article detailing a new hospital called Autry Memorial Hospital School located at the intersection of Shepherd's Dam Road and West Dallas Avenue. Awesome, awesome find!! I never knew about this hospital! Apparently the hospital was another tuberculosis treatment center that paired with the Houston Anti-Tuberculosis League Hospital located at 806 Bagby Street. Here's the newspaper clipping and article: Child Hospital Is Given To City By Mrs. Autry $50,000 Institution to Stand as Memorial to James L. Autry Jr. Tubercular Boys and Girls Will Be Cared For in Effective Way. A hospital and school for tubercular children and those threatened with the diseases to cost $50,000, is to be built and given to the city at once by Mrs. Allie K. Autry. Announcement of the gift was made by Mayor Holcombe at the meeting of the city council Monday afternoon. Plans for the building were begun some months ago and have been completed and approved both by the council and by the advisory board representing Mrs. Autry. The hospital will occupy a site near the city present tubercular hospital, at the intersection of Shepherd’s Dam road and West Dallas avenue. It will be known as the “Autry Memorial School” in honor of the donor’s son, James Lockhart Autry Jr., who died in 1922.
  10. This River Oaks office building located at 3355 West Alabama Street recently went under renovations. Figured I'd make a thread.
  11. This shopping center next door to Hollywood Square sure does look similar. I wonder if it was the same architect? Looks like MLB Commercial Real Estate sold the center to Lionstone Investments in 2019. I stopped by this weekend and took some pictures. 3701 West Alabama street signage: More signage and building: Greenway Plaza skyline peeking over the retail center: Leasing by The Blue Ox Group: Skyscraper in the background:
  12. I always pass by this shopping center. Thought I would create a thread for any latest leasing additions. Leased by Western General Holding Co. Here are some pictures I took this weekend. The Hollywood Square and 3637 W Alabama street signage: Building signage: Tenant list and skyscraper background:
  13. Snapped a cool picture of the Berkeley Eye Center Building this weekend. The office building is located at 3100 Weslayan Street. The picture makes it look like the glass is two different colors. Bronze and blue. However, the bronze color is just a reflection of the the brutalist AT&T building across the street.
  14. https://www.houstonpress.com/media/pdf/nixon_meyerland-sept11.pdf contains the extensive brunch documentation have you ever found any photos of the demolished Blaffer home at 2 Briarwood?
  15. New sign up for the lot behind Arabella at the SE corner of San Felipe and Post Oak Park Dr (aka the Target parking lot access road).

  17. Stopped by the site today. Awesome looking property. Had a conversation with the neighbor. It's actually two homes and some land by the bayou. The neighbor said apartments would be terrible due to the small road around that bend. The 4 acres down the street, formerly The Monaco, is owned by a Canadian guy.
  18. I never knew about this gorgeous multifamily complex tucked beside Central Market. They look very nice, and located on a somewhat quiet street. Anyone familiar with the Essex House? Here's a few photos I took this weekend.
  19. There was discussion about this 1.87-acres of land in the Hanover River Oaks thread. Fresh on Loopnet, listing created yesterday. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2801-Kirby-Dr-Houston-TX/21177891/ Approximately 4,500 SF building with three drive-thru lanes on 1.87 acres of land.In the highly desirable Upper Kirby District between Westheimer Rd and Richmond Ave. Available January 2021. Will consider dividing building. Do not disturb occupant.
  20. It's interesting to note that the surface lot across from this just went on the market. http://www.loopnet.com/Listing/SEC-WESLAYAN-W-ALABAMA-Houston-TX/11813599/
  21. I've been driving down this stretch of San Felipe for over a year. Today, while sitting behind a train, noticed the building name and leasing signage. This old, 1980s?, office building is never spoken about. I'd imagine leasing is pretty bad? Here's the photo I took today.
  22. Does anyone know what is going on on the Southwest side of this intersection? The site has been cleared minus the trees being saved by Davey Trees. This is the main entrance for Bayou Bend so I am wondering if it has something to do with the museum?
  23. The founders of River Oaks eventually built a downtown office tower called Country Club Estates Building located at 707 Fannin Street. I'm not sure if I recognize the 1920s design. I know John Staub worked a lot for the Country Club Estates company in River Oaks. The building went under a remodel as the Country Club Estates company grew. There was an added ornamental piece on top of the building.
