  1. Does anyone go to CM’s Hatch Chili Festival, or anyone else’s? This is the first year we have done so. Hatch peppers only come out once a year for about two weeks at the end of August. We normally buy about 15 or so pounds of them and roast them on the grill. This year we bought a whole case, and CM roasted them on the spot in a large drum with a propane burner. I love Hatch peppers, and Michelle makes a great Green Chili Stew with them. It is chock full of melt-your-mouth goodness! Any other Hatch lovers out there. Anyone going to Central Market this weekend, or next?
  2. There's that small retail center near Lamar High School that's located at 2802 Westheimer Road. In between River Oaks and Upper Kirby. Old Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/property/2802-westheimer-rd-houston-tx-77098/48201-0121150000018/ How is that fancy restaurant called Relish? It's been there forever but I never tried it. https://www.relishhouston.com/
  3. Wasn't that Target built around 2003? Am I right? Any chance of it being redeveloped anytime soon?
  4. The McDonalds is officially closed. If you need a burger in the north Post Oak area... God help you. You will have to schlep down to the Jack in the Box on San Felipe. Wah waaaah. Post Oak Park: Retail Center At 4520 San Felipe St.
  5. Been in Houston a lot recently and a vacant lot that looks like it used to be a restaurant has captured my attention. The building was razed sometime around 2007, and attempts to find an address or the name of this have been elusive. The biggest clue left behind is a large sign that is only partially blacked out ("J***'s") but other than that, I got nothing. Makes me wonder if it closed LONG before it was demolished. https://www.google.com/maps/@29.7452381,-95.4566661,3a,75y,49.4h,101.37t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s0ttV4oF1bS5wuhThn1wA5A!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
  6. The lot adjacent to ROD is up for lease, can't remember if this was already discussed. Wish they would just sell it off. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/Westheimer-Rd-Houston-TX/28509366/
  7. Not sure if this has a topic created already but I’ve seen this being built for a while now. Anyone have more info?
  8. I work near there and was curious if anyone had read or seen what is going to replace the Chevron on the corner? They've torn down the carwash as of Friday, but no signs of anything to come. There is already a Chase, Wachovia, and WaMu nearby, so hopefully it won't be yet another bank.
  9. In the Texas State Journal of Medicine, Volume 44, Number 3, July 1948 there is a listing for a (now) demolished house in River Oaks. Greenwood, Mrs. James R., 3394 Chevy Chase (6). 2006 view, surrounded by trees!! 2014, new mansion took its place: I would call it a McMansion, but this home in RO is anything but cheap. Love that circular pool!
  10. Proposed plat. Located where Backstreet Cafe and H-Town Restaurant Group is located. Traci Vaught and Hugo Ortega's first restaurant that started their restaurant empire.
  11. Found a James Greenwood, Jr. curriculum vitae that lists his residence in River Oaks. I believe the home was demolished and a new mansion took its place. Tried searching on Google Earth but there's too many trees on the parcel to find the house. I never knew Jas. Greenwood, Jr. was included in all of the Texas Medical Center hospitals. He practically worked at every TMC hospital. Impressive resume! Although, I did notice the infamous Greenwood Sanitarium was not listed. I do know his father, James Greenwood, Sr. founded the sanitarium. I thought he worked at the sanitarium a long side his father? He was a doctor there. James Greenwood, Jr., M. 12. Noticed this matchbook recently and wondered about the business. Does anyone remember this store? I assume it was active in the 1960s. Looks to be where the current Robert's Carpet is, across the street from Shops at Arrive River Oaks. 13. Cool looking house! I never even heard of the Sewell-Avery families. I wonder who those people are and what they did for a living? Must have been business owners or doctors/bankers to live in RO. Sewell-Avery House Address: 3456 Inwood Drive, River Oaks. Year Built: 1925. Architects: Cram and Ferguson and William Ward Watkin, associate architect.
  14. http://www.har.com/2525-maconda-houston-tx-77027/homevalue_3167481 I am not sure if this is the right place to put this question but what in the heck is going on with this house? it is located pretty much across the street from the whataburger at 3639 westheimer and has been under construction for about 15 YEARS or more is my guess...i am not kidding when it seems that the owner maybe buys one board or one window or one light switch plate every 3 to 6 months haha! I pass by it almost daily and its so weird to see this shell of a house with no back walls facing Westheimer... i have just always wondered what they deal was and wondered if there was an interesting story about the owner or property etc... thanks!
  15. I've noticed gun clubs have a cool formation in aerial photography. Found a historic Uptown gun club so I thought I would share my findings. From the newspaper The Houston Post. dated June 15, 1924: Views Snapped On Post Party Jaunt Along The Westheimer and Bellaire Roads. Upper Left: The gun club out on the Westheimer Road with a front view of the Jordan Blue Boy in the foreground. The Houston Post. dated June 8, 1924: An Airplane View of Houston Gun Club John Winters and Ed Bond recently took the accompanying picture of the Houston Gun Club's up-to-date house and trap field.
  16. Another John Staub mansion bites the dust: Astros owner Jim Crane buys $24M historic River Oaks home only to tear it down
  17. Thought I would create a thread on this 1962 condo high-rise in River Oaks. I searched and there was only a handful of mentions in random threads. Has anyone lived here? Is it a good place to live? Who was the original architect and builder?
  18. Proposed development at 3601 West Alabama. SubdivisionPlatPDF_19.0051-001.pdf http://i65.tinypic.com/2w4z1op.png
  19. I was reading the newspaper Jewish Herald-Voice dated August 18, 1977 and came across a business advertisement for Harrigan's Restaurant located at 2702 Kirby Drive. Does anyone recall this place? 1977 was actually present resent. I assume someone on HAIF went here to eat. I've never heard about the restaurant until today! Great Things Happen at Harrigan's- Great Foods Great Service Great Evenings Harrigan's -The Funtasmagoria Place- 2702 Kirby Drive (½ Block South of Westheimer) Reservations 524-4611
  20. Presume you are referring to 5 Post Oak Park at 4400 Post Oak Parkway? That building is 28 stories... 389 feet tall. So, probably a little taller than Sky House will be.
  21. We understand that there is a picture of the Earl of Huntingdon somewhere in the Huntingdon Building. We have contacted the current Earl of Huntingdon who lives nearby, but he knows nothing about it. We woud appreciate if someone could confirm this, or a denial would be useful, and if so could they let us know which Earl of Huntingdon that the picture shows. The Earl of Huntingdon is the Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire and is believed to be descended from Robin Hood. Thank you for any help.
