  1. In 1986, The Junior League of Houston broke ground on a new hospital (and clinic?) building in River Oaks at 1811 Briar Oaks Lane. 1986 groundbreaking photo: Photos that I took today: The gate is missing the very unique "JL" logo. Cost cutting I'd assume.
  2. I was driving a long Briar Hollow Lane and noticed, out the corner of my eye, a sign that read The John M. O'Quinn Foundation. I had to stop by and take photos! Briar Hollow Plaza office building located at19 Briar Hollow Lane.
  3. https://www.stlukesmethodist.org/church-updates/ St. Luke’s Long Range Planning Committee has been at work seeking God’s preferred future for St. Luke’s ministry. The committee has established eight initiatives as part of our vision for the next five years. By the end of 2023, St Luke’s will: * Overhaul systems for hospitality, engagement, and leadership development * Expand strategic communications for traditional worship and all of St. Luke’s ministries * Enlarge St. Luke’s outreach ministry, including our work in the Gethsemane parish * Grow the Story Houston as an integral part of St. Luke’s mission * Strengthen and grow our Encounter worship community * Build a strong financial foundation for growing ministries * Improve technology, including a new church management system * Restructure our governance for more doing and less reporting
  4. Always wondered about this building. Today I thought I would stop by and take a few pictures of the elegant condo high rise. Park Square One Condominiums located at 49 Briar Hollow Lane.
  5. This vacant land just across Uptown has been sitting vacant for a few years now. I'm not sure if the parcel for sale is big enough for development? Might have to buy the neighboring parcel(s) to make a redevelopment worth while. The Cushman & Wakefield for sale sign.
  6. I just came across a CoH multi-family plat titled Uptown River Oaks for 3.4 acres along Briar Hollow just north of San Felipe. It's in today's planning commission agenda. According to the paperwork, it's planned for 311 units. The plat seems to include the property that the Briar Way cul-de-sac is within and the parking lot to the south.
  7. Always wondered about these condos. There's a hidden neighborhood over there. Photos I took today.
  8. Heh. Just saw this in "Selling Steakburgers," a memoir by Robert Cronin, who was the president of Steak n Shake from 1971 to 1981: Customers who had become a part of the great Texas migration in the late sixties and early seventies urged us to move into the Lone Star state. We responded with five stores in Houston in '76--5745 Westheimer, 2227 N. Gessner, 3730 Kirby, 811 S. Gessner, and 5322 FM 1960. A few pages later, Cronin writes:

  10. Presume you are referring to 5 Post Oak Park at 4400 Post Oak Parkway? That building is 28 stories... 389 feet tall. So, probably a little taller than Sky House will be.
  11. George R. Brown's River Oaks house was built in 1933 and located at 3363 Inwood Drive. Designed by J.T. Rather Jr. of Staub & Rather.
  12. One of the founders of the Anderson, Clayton and Co. was William Clayton who lived in River Oaks. Legal says, this was the first house built in River Oaks at 3376 Inwood Drive. Designed by Briscoe & Dixon in 1924.
  13. The old Chappell Jordan Clock Galleries at 2222 Westheimer Rd will be demolished to make way for a furniture showroom and office. AB Modern will build here. https://abmodern.com/ https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/TABS/Search/Project/TABS2021001032
  14. http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2012/07/inner-loop-tract-slated-for-huge-mixed-use-project/ Gensler is the architect.
  15. heh "A luxury condominium complex off of Allen Parkway in River Oaks boasts an unusual amenity—a community swimming pool in the shape of, well, let's just look at the photo." https://www.chron.com/culture/article/houston-river-oaks-condo-pool-19354269.php
  16. The building contains two businesses, Pink Berry frozen yogurt and Zoe's Kitchen. Zoes Kitchen is awesome. Love that yellow rice! Cool little retail center in the high profile river oaks. Regarding future, high-rise development, the purchaser would most likely include this parcel and the one next door, the Plants n' Petals flower shop. This stand a lone parcel is too small to work with. Edit:
  17. Highland Village is one of the best shopping areas in Houston. I think that Houston needs more of theses type of shopping areas. I just wish that the shopping was closer to the road (More Urban), but it's great how it is. Does anyone know of any new shopping areas going up that area comparable to Highland Village? http://www.shophighlandvillage.com/graphics/index16.gifhttp://www.shophighlandvillage.com/graphics/index17.gif
  18. An aging River Oaks office building built in 1968 is up for sale! Totaling 1.69 acres, we should see a high-rise here in a few years. Directly across the street from Lamar High School. Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/3100-W-Alabama-St-Houston-TX/31183907/ A select few slides from the property flyer:
  19. Jalapenos, the colorful restaurant near the corner of Kirby and Westheimer, will close its doors a the end of the year to make way for a huge new development on the land where the eatery has stood for 18 years. Recent Company News
  20. Is this guy b.s. or what? I haven't heard anything about it: "Dudes and Ladies, I was very upset when I heard from a business owner in River Oaks Plaza that later this year, early next, they are getting rid of the theater to put in a 30 story high-rise. word is, they are axing black eyed pea too, for a multi-level parking garage." You can read the rest here: http://members.boardhost.com/hands_up/msg/1151627265.html Anyone know anything?
