Wife wanted some lamp parts, and sent me to Heights Lights and Things at 2515 Harvard. There's a few goin gout of business signs, and their stock is way down. I would not be surprised to see this sold and redeveloped. Anyone know what's happening?

From The Houston Post dated February 3, 1926: $50,000 Loss in Kenedy Fire. The dry goods store of Jake Freeman located on Main street, was destroyed by a fire Saturday night. The conflagration being the most disastrous to occur here since the destruction of the Breeden-Runge Co. warehouse six or eight years ago. The brick building, the property of Ira Hinton of Oakville was completely gutted by the fire. Mr. Freedman had only recently competed taking invoice and he computes his loss at between $42,000 and $45,000. The building, which had a front of 60 feet on Main street, was conservatively valued at $12,000 with only $4,000 in insurance carried by Mr. Hinton. Mr. Freedman had insurance to the amount of $35,000. Only the bare walls of the building are left standing, Kenedy Advance.

Seabrook Town Center "...The Seabrook Town Center, just north of the intersection of State Highway 146 and Repsdorph Road, has been in the works for some years, but finally all puzzle pieces seem to be in place for the project to become a reality. Houston-based HS Development Group, typically focused on multifamily and student housing, acquired the 19.5-acre property earlier this month from Santa Barbara, California-based Pacific Ridge. HS took over the contract from Houston-based WMF Investments in February, HS Development Group COO Steve Helm said... ...The plan includes a four-story, 322-unit apartment complex and 19,000 square feet of retail and restaurants surrounding a plaza with event lawn as well as some office space. “We’ll have a stage. There'll be a turf surface for kids to play ball or whatever on and four … pad sites,” Helm said. “They could be restaurant or retail pads out front along (Highway) 146.” The 19.5-acre development will be called The Edge at Seabrook Town Centre, the spelling of “center” notably different from the overall Seabrook Town Center, which includes a few more acres to the south..."

Any memories of the 1959 strip center located at 4122 Willowbend Blvd? It appears the strip center was 18,600 square feet. The strip center contained the following retail businesses that I know of. I'm sure there were others in its 50 year life span before it was demolished. Carolyn’s Bar at 10711 Craighead Dr. Fruit of the Spirit Community Church. Premier Banquet Hall. The strip center was owned (and developed?) by LeRoy Melcher of Melcher Investments.

I recently had Tapester's Grill's veggie burger and man! That burger was fantastic! I believe it was a home made patty. They offered me a frozen peach bellini as well! Great restaurant. Anyone ever shop at this retail center? The area has potential, with the abandoned police substation and water works nearby. This shopping center is owned and managed by MC Management, of the Meyer Family. Loopnet listing: Currently not available, maybe all the space is occupied? https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/4520-4534-Beechnut-St-Houston-TX/11995520/

I noticed we didn't have a thread for the Eden's Terrace Shops Shopping Center at 5115 Buffalo Speedway. I remember going to Qin Dynasty Chinese Restaurant with my coworkers back in the day. I've also been in that Starbucks as well. Website: https://edens.com/property/terrace-shops/

Nit Noi Thai Cafe opened for business last week downtown on the block of 300 Main Street and they were packed for lunch. Nit Noi had butcher paper up on the windows while they were doing construction to their space at 301 Main Street( previousely Cava's)at the corner of Congress. Cava's moved right across the street next to Cielo Bistro. This block seems to have emerged as Downtown's Restaurant Row as it seems to have the most restaurant cafes and bars in downtown that are all located on the same block and or within close proximity including: Mia Bella,Grum Bar, Clark's,Notsuoh,The Office Bar, Martel's Bar,Cava's Bistro,Cielo,Red Cat Jazz Cafe,Del Rey,and Voice within Hotel Icon."The Hub" building is the only remaining location on this block available for a restaurant or bar and has an updated tan stucco facade which replaced the fire engine red tile and large neon "Hub" signage. If you go to this link and scroll towards the bottom of the page there are some cool photos of this historic block and "The Hub" building over the years: http://www.hsacq.com/312-main-street-downtown-houston-texas

There's a large (for this neighborhood) steel-framed building going up on the north side of Westheimer in the 500 block (approximately where the Happy Budda used to be). Also, across the street a smaller building is going up in a former vacant lot (wedged between the strip center and the VA services building.) Anyone know what businesses are going into these new buildings? edit: I'm also curious about the lot at Whitney and Westheimer (northeast corner). An old house was moved to this site a few years ago; for a while it was used as offices for a used car lot, then a short-lived nightclub called Da House. I see everything above the first floor has been removed. Is it being moved again? Any idea what might go in its place?

Didn't know where to put this, but I saw a gentleman measuring off the building today. He had measuring tape and was jotting everything down on his notepad. He also had what looked like a sketched/diagram kind of figure on his paper.

I was researching the old residential estate at 2330 North Braeswood Blvd. and came across an article regarding the history of tenants of the house. One tenant, Joseph Danburg, owned a department store called Rite-Way Department Store. This would have been in the 1940s. They had six locations: 33 Artesian Place 511 Broadway Street 1902 Hardy Street 2756 Lyons Avenue 5334 Washington Avenue 7504 Harrisburg Boulevard I know there was a similar business called Rite-Way Food Market located at 5204 Bellaire Blvd. Then there was a plumbing business called Rite-Way Plumbing Co. Can't seem to find the department store though. Starting to think the article I read was incorrect. I wonder how they accounted for six (6) locations? Maybe there was a name change and that's why I can't find anything? With 6 locations, I am sure there would be a lot of business article and ads. Anyone recall this this store? I can't seem to find anything on HAIF, or any of the historic Houston sites around. I know there are a few HAIF members who are obsessed with department stores and retail stores. Tell me more!
