This thread was originally created January 20, 2016. I'm reposting / reupping this because this post and other content from me are no longer available on the forum. An archive link will be posted soon. Mods, please don't move this to the Heights forum where all of my Washington Corridor posts were moved to. Mods, also don't sneak and move this thread and all the others for Washington Corridor, Oak Forest, Garden Oaks, and Independence Heights to the Heights forum once all the previous content is reposted as y'all have done in the last two weeks and continue to do. This is NOT in the Heights and it's not part of the Greater Heights area in any way. This is in the Washington Corridor area, an area that as suggested and advocated for previously needs its own forum because there is lots of development happening here, much spurred by the Sawyer Yards and Buffalo Heights developments. That in itself usually merits the creation for a new neighborhood forum. Until then, posts for those neighborhoods should remain in the forum for "Other Neighbohoods" has is done with other threads that don't have a dedicated neighborhood or area of town forum.Thanks. Once home to Guadalajara Bakery, the 4003 Washington Avenue property, and the adjacent lot next to it at 4011 Washington Avenue (former car lot) is expected to open as a club named La Roux. Construction has been on going for a year or two. [Photo: Eater Houston]

I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire & Southwestern Texan dated December 15, 1965 and came across an advertisement for Weiner's. Looking briefly online, the company was started in the 1920s and ended in the 2010's following Hurricane Allison. A little confused. Was this just a clothing store, or an actual department store? Was this a bargain retail store? Anyone know more information about this place? I wonder if there were any in my neighborhood in the Texas Medical Center? I know HAIF has a few department store and retail connoisseurs. Fill me in!!

This is pretty huge in my opinion, old Jones Coney Island is being demo'd and a new restaurant called Artisan's will replace it. Seems like a pretty huge price tag!

Anyone know what the plan is for 4444 Montrose? Used to be Etheria Salon & Day Spa, but looks like it was sold to HWM Properties, LLC in 2020. Lot size is 17,325 sq ft. HWM Properties appears to be owned by Wayne Martin, founder of Applied Finish Systems, a drywall company. Martin also owns Chateau Cocomar.

A new retail building is going up on West Bellfort. Lots of biotechnology companies around Kirby, West Bellfort, Willowbend, and Stella Link. Edit: It looks like MD Anderson occupies a few suites here! MD Anderson has recently occupied 21,220 SF and 24,875 SF at 9220 and 9230 Kirby. The architect for the interior remodels was Powers Brown Architecutre.

Always offering the very latest, The Woodlands Mall recently welcomed five new, sought-after retailers to the shopping center. Additionally, a number of retailers have been moving to new locations and improving shopping environments for visitors. Recent additions to the list of retailers include: Oil & Vinegar, described as a fashion food for food, opened earlier this year on the lower level near the Courtyard Shops. A fun shopping experience for the novice or the gourmet cook, the shelves at Oil & Vinegar are filled with treats such as Italian white truffle oil, raspberry vinegar, pastas, relish, dip and more. Sona MedSpa, a nationally known luxury spa recently opened in the office component of the shopping center. Sona provides laser hair removal and anti-aging services. The Woodlands Mall is only the second Houston location for one of the nation

Hubcap Grill 1111 Prairie St (713) 223-5885 It's BYOB too. Best burgers downtown - small little shack next to Alden hotel. I don't think you could spend $10 if you tried, maybe the Triple By-Pass Burger with sweet potatoe fries and a drink would get you close.

Couldn't find if there was an existing thread. But the pier one imports is being demolition and replaced with a chase bank. Drove by today and noticed half the building was already gone. Chase has an entire building directly across the street, could they be rebuilding and moving? It would make sense because they've done this with their other locations like the one on Westheimer and Beltway 8. If they did, their current building across the street could be redeveloped into something big! Building across the street

When I was a kid, and I visited my Grandmother in the Heights area, there was a department store called Bargain Gusher on 19th I believe. It was down the street from the old Heights Theatre (anyone remember what movie closed this place down...curious, is the key word) and what I can visualize to this day is the elderly gentleman playing dominoes in the park next to the Bargain Gusher! Spent many days in that store, but can not recall what I bought though. Anyone else ever go there?
