  1. When the news broke about a proposed NRG Park Mixed-Use Development, reporters took note the given area surrounding NRG Park. The reporters noticed the immediate area is littered with the standard, one-story basic retail strip centers. How could we improve the general retail in the southern Main Street corridor? I have noticed the independent owned restaurants can't survive so the national corporations come in to replace. The former Shell Technology Center located at 1500 Old Spanish Trail could become a vibrant, class-a retail district. Maybe that could be the starting point? I believe the TMC took control of the land from New Quest? So probably not. Given the area around the world-class Texas Medical Center, it would be a good idea to build better retail and restaurants. Thought I would create a thread about the retail market surround the TMC and NRG Park areas.
  2. Advance Meyerland is the small retail strip center next to the Kroger's on South Post Oak at West Bellfort. Was browsing permits and noticed a proposed building going up here.
  3. Maybe I am posting this in the wrong section, but I live in Meyerland and I have often wondered why we do not have a Super Walmart in the SW Houston/Meyerland area. We have a normal Walmart off of South Post Oak and 610 (which is always REALLY crowded), but not a Super WM. Anyone else think there needs to be one?
  4. I saw online a few months back that this was closing. I spy a tower crane, I wonder what it's building? I had it in my mind it might be the Solvay Hotel. It's not, it's Amazing Spaces.
  5. The HBJ refers to this as a downtown location but its actually located in Midtown according to the address given. http://houston.bizjournals.com/houston/sto...ml?surround=lfn I just drove past that intersection during my lunch break and didn't really notice. I'm assuming that it's probably in the retail center on the left side of San Jac, facing north, although I could be wrong.
  6. 3201 Allen Parkway is the reimagining of the former Star Engraving Company Building into a modern retail, creative office and restaurant project in the heart of Inner Loop Houston. Formally home to the Houston Children’s Museum, the Anza Falco Museum of Art and Design, and the Stages Theatre. The redevelopment was designed by Perkins + Will. The landscape architect is SWA Group, and Perrin Projects handled the interior design. I just received a gallery invitation to view the architect's drawings for this new Houston museum. It's slated to open in 2010, first in some sort of temporary building and later in a permanent structure. This is the first I've heard about it. There's virtually nothing on the internet as to location or funding and very little about its purpose. Information, anyone?
  7. Proposed development at 3601 West Alabama. SubdivisionPlatPDF_19.0051-001.pdf http://i65.tinypic.com/2w4z1op.png
  8. The architectural, historical, and cultural icons of Katy must be saved! I think they would make great apartments. Imagine living in the "Rice Tower" with massive concrete walls for insulation and punched out windows with stunning views of the big box development, mall parking lots, and unchecked suburban sprawl. I bet it would sell like hot cakes!
  9. "Montrose sports bar has issued its last call. Revelry on Richmond Ave. will close on July 31." https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/07-06-22-revelry-on-richmond-sports-bar-montrose-closing-date/
  10. Camden Property Trust will build on two blocks in downtown. Phase one begins in Spring 2015 which will include a 12-story high-rise. Phase two begins in Spring 2017. Total of 518 units. #31 on the new development map. http://downtownhouston.org/site_media/uploads/attachments/2013-12-19/131218_Current_Projects_11x17.pdf
  11. Redevelopment planned for the old Rex Supply building on Harrisburg at Milby. This is near the Second Ward/Coffee Plant stop on METRO Green Line light rail. Looks to be mixed-use retail with plans for a three story garage. Definitely would be a welcome addition near the Sampson/York corridor. http://swamplot.com/what-rex-supplys-harrisburg-complex-would-look-like-with-restaurants-throngs-of-pedestrians-taking-over-its-thru-street/2018-09-20/ https://www.hpiproperties.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/milby-junction-1.pdf Special thanks to Swamplot for finding this (or at least making me aware of it lol)
  12. I haven't been by this building in a long time, but Google streetview shows it to be vacant. Looks like this might become a bakery that doubles as a storefront for a coffee roaster? New electrical permit for a Mango Pickle LLC kitchen remodel: LLC search shows Eadough Pastries as an alternate name: That leads to http://eadough.com And also found http://www.instagram.com/itscakegirl And Google Maps shows Blackwater Coffee Roasters at the location: https://www.google.com/maps/place/3204+Polk+St,+Houston,+TX+77003/@29.7429671,-95.3478145,90m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x8640bee39138903b:0x79798a02fd06ac3e!8m2!3d29.7429144!4d-95.3477554
  13. Any updates regarding this shopping center? It's located at Stella Link & South Braeswood. The shopping center has been doing very poorly over the years. Lots of vacancies and no remodels. Looked around on DMRE's website today. Looks like the property was sold. 9.70 acres. Future housing or a major retail redevelopment? https://dmre.com/property/stella-link-and-braeswood-9-70-acres/ Old site plan.
  14. I was looking forward to this new restaurant to open. We tried it for lunch this past weekend. The service was friendly buy quite slow. A lot of their menu items had sold out (appetizers/soups). The food was average at best (Lemon Grass beef and Singapore beef dishes). But...to be fair...the place is new and needs time to sync up. I will try them again in the future.
  15. Current tenants OoLaLa and Heights Candy Bar leaving this zero-setback retail site. Hopefully the building will remain.
  16. I could have sworn this already had a thread but could not find it. This warehouse will be converted into a bar. Apparently it's already under way per houstonculturemap, slated to be completed by this fall. I attached link for all the details. https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/05-12-22-heights-social-1213-w-20th-st-drift-bar-open-champagne-service-brunch-cocktails/
  17. I saw that Venture Commercial and Bryan Danna posted their real estate sign in front of the Conoco. These are the same developers of the former Burroughs property on the north side of White Oak (D'Amicos etc). HCAD Tax records still show the Burroughs trust as owners, but that data base is not current. Anybody hear anything about the site being in play?
  18. I couldn't seem to find a post for this one, but it's on the planning agenda for 08/30/2018 requesting a set-back variance of 5'. Montrose Garden. NEC Montrose and West Clay. 20 stories. 9 floors of residential above 9 floors of parking. Two floors of retail with one level of underground parking for the retail. 2019 start date listed. Owners: Supo Corporation, 1209 Montrose Blvd. Sorry if this one is already around here somewhere.

  20. wow!! I never knew there were two different Woolworth's in downtown! The original F.W. Woolworth Co. 5-10 and 15 Cent Store was located at 920 Main Street. This building was designed by architect Alfred C. Finn. The other building at 613 Main Street was designed by Kenneth Franzheim. Almost every city and town of any size or importance in the United States in the first half of the twentieth century had a Woolworth’s Department Store. Houston’s downtown branch was located at 920 Main Street. The photo can be dated to 1917–1918, because during that time architect Alfred C. Finn maintained an office, visible on the left side of the second floor, in the Woolworth Building. When Woolworth store chain founder Frank W. Woolworth died in 1919, there were over one thousand Woolworth stores in the United States alone.
  21. Looked everywhere for this one. There was one mention in the Camp Strake thread. Its massive enough to have its own mega thread, but way to far out to be in "Going Up". Since we don't have a dedicated Woodlands, Spring, and Anything Further Out subforum, I'll be posting this here. Originally conceived in 2015 this one has taken awhile to get going (possibly due to Harvey), but have already started on phase 1 which is mostly low-rise residential and big box stores, which is something we don't touch on this forum. Its the "Urban Living", "Town Center" and "Business Center" that would get our attention. For info on phase 1 developments there is an article in HBJ: https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/blog/breaking-ground/2014/08/camp-strake-property-to-include-750k-square-feet.html Now for the real meat of the project. I'll let y'all decide. I'm fine leaving it here for the above reasons.
