On a Sunday stroll, I noticed a drilling rig doing what looked to me like soil samples in the Central Bank parking lot between Milam and Travis (2217 Milam but the drilling was closer to Travis) in Midtown. The bank occupies the entire block. Pix attached. This is across the street from the new bar, Pour Behavior, that is supposed to open this winter at 2211 Travis St. I’m not sure what is going on there. Does anyone have any insights/baseless rumors?

Just saw on their FB page. I wonder why. I hadn't really been since I moved out of midtown 2 years ago but assumed it was still pretty popular. Oh well. https://www.facebook.com/celticgardens/?fref=ts

Looks like a residential high-rise is (well, more likely was) planned for 3030 Travis St. Sometime between Jan. 2015 and Aug. 2015 the owners removed all leasing information from the strip center that sits on the site. I was going to dump this in the Houston: Potential thread but there appears to be some intent to build here, just may happen later rather than sooner. http://www.estudioarchitecture.com/# Street View: https://www.google.com/maps/place/3030+travis+st+houston+tx/@29.7429346,-95.3773422,3a,75y,323.82h,90t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m4!1s0XnkosqAYDeJkmiJkWPijg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xc2661e4e68979a77!6m1!1e1

Are the Greyhound or El Expreso bus stations ever going to move out of midtown/downtown? I realize its conveniently located near the downtown bus terminal, but now that the bus routes are not so centered around the downtown station, I dont see why it couldnt find a new home. Maybe closer to Amtrack or northeast of downtown?

I drive by this variance request across the street from HCC Central on Crawford all the time...I guess the 3500 block of Crawford. It is next to an old funeral home (that looks like it went out of business a few months ago). Does anyone know anything about this project, and does it constitute demolishing the funeral home as well? It is called "Jackson Street Landing" on the request and was approved in July: https://www.houstontx.gov/planning/Commissions/minutes_plan15/Action_PCminutes072315.PDF

https://www.google.com/search?q=2805+bagby+houston&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 Greater Houston Bowling Association? Strange Metal building, doesn't seem long enough for bowling lane? Does anyone know what this building is? Bowling Lanes? I always thought it was utility and I was walking by and saw bowling on the door and my interest was piqued. Thanks -

Is the new midtown park fully open? The chain link fence is gone, people are using it, but one of the gates to the dog run is padlocked. (There's two gates but only one is padlocked)

I found this on Stream Realty's site and could not locate a thread on it. It looks as though Stream is proposing retail at this location: http://www.streamrealty.com/property/Houston/Leeland-Crossing

An old house and a couple old warehouses were recently removed from the lot bound by Capitol, Nagle and the new light rail - there was a variance sign up but I didn't notice it today. The house at the corner of Capitol and Delano was not demoed. https://www.google.com/maps/@29.750267,-95.348348,3a,90y,29.52h,90.47t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1st7zT4oZ3lrTd05a79HW98g!2e0!6m1!1e1

elnina999 has added a photo to the pool: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2919/14138360937_3ce912baf5_m.jpg ... is rising over Midtown. Creation of Sebastien Boileau, who is also known as “Mr. D.” (At one time the graffiti painter from France might have been seen as a vandal, but today his work is being celebrated as his newest piece is about to be completed.) When finished next month, the mural at 2800 San Jacinto will stand five stories tall and cover 8,000 square feet. It is a massive undertaking, and will be the largest mural in Houston's history. The installation is possible through a partnership between the Texas-French Alliance for the Arts’ “Open Door Project” and several donors. It will be officially unveiled to the public on Saturday, June 7, 2014 www.khou.com/community/Preservons-la-Creation-is-the-bigg... Click here to view this photo at the HAIF Photo Pool on Flickr

Does anyone remember the old home at 202 McGowen? It was the Joseph H. McEvoy home built around 1905 by Joseph H. McEvoy Sr., and occupied by the McEvoy family until the early 70's. The house stood vacant for about 40 years, and was finally bought and torn down in the early 2000s. I was fortunate enough to have "discovered" the house while the sale was pending. When I found out it was purchased by a developer who was going to tear it down, I contacted him, and he graciously allowed me to go in the house and remove some architectural features and fixtures before they ended up as landfill. The McEvoy family owned J.H. McEvoy & Company, and manufactured strainers and set shoe assemblies for oil rigs, and also had quite a few patents on these items. The original business location was 202 Milam at Franklin, and eventually moved to 600 Milby Street. I'm posting a few pictures I came across the other day. I hated to see the house torn down even though it was in bad shape. I'm sure the ceilings in the living room were 15' high, and all the old light fixtures were still in place. The upstairs was impressive because every bedroom had a sitting room off of it. I'm glad I got to see it and record it before it was torn down.

Portion of the block bounded by Hutchins, Pease, Jefferson. Beyonce and her destinys child band mate Kelly Rowland built the Knowles-Rowland Temenos place 1 in Midtown. This is phase 2 and will offer twice as many units for the homeless and less fortunate. http://www.temenoscdc.org/temenos-phase-2/

As part of the closing of Dodson, much of Midtown is being rezoned from Blackshear Elementary to Gregory Lincoln Elementary: http://www.houstonisd.org/site/handlers/filedownload.ashx?moduleinstanceid=51135&dataid=101587&FileName=031314OA_POST.pdf (see attachment F-2) Many of the parents interviewed in this story, back when J. Will Jones was closing, didn't like the idea of being zoned to Blackshear http://www.houstonpress.com/2008-12-04/news/backlash-upon-backlash-at-hisd/ - Maybe they will be happier today?

Pearl is really banking on Midtown. I think this brings the total count to 4 possible Pearl complexes in the area.

I walked by the old El Patio Xuco Xicana restaurant and they were putting up new siding over the aluminum addition that was build a few years ago. I always hated the aluminum addition. It looked REALLY tacky. But, the new siding actually looks really good. I don't know if that means a new tenant is moving in or if the owner is doing his own renovations.
