  1. I can't find the thread that had renderings and site plan, but the developers are seeking setback and visibility triangle variances. It will go before the Planning Commission on Thursday, 5/28. The location is the Southwest corner of Austin/Webster intersection where Midtown Bail Bonds used to operate.
  2. Just wanted to give a heads-up to anyone interested in attending. The Planning Dept. website doesn't show the next meeting date. WHAT: Public hearing to consider the proposed Midtown Walkable Place Pilot Area Plan WHEN: Thursday, March 5, 2:30PM WHERE: City Hall Annex Chambers, Public Level (900 Bagby St.) MORE INFO: The plan addresses things like setbacks, sidewalk widths, and the location of parking spaces. http://www.houstontx.gov/planning/Commissions/walkable-places-midtown.html http://www.houstontx.gov/planning/wp-committee.html
  3. This was in the previous thread for Midtown Common | 2403 Caroline . Although the information is outdated, it may be helpful to see what was previously discussed or shared before since the original thread and other content from me were removed. Archive links to original thread here: page 1, page 2.Originally posted by phillip_white, February 24, 2019 in the previous thread for Midtown Common | 2403 Caroline. Looks like at least a portion of this lot is being switched to an affordable housing project called Caroline Lofts by Mark-Dana Corp. 87 total units with 76 low income
  4. Someone dumped several barrels of what may be paint and labels that say "Non Hazardous Waste" across from the Caydon by the big mural on Fannin St.
  5. I wanted to touch on a topic that has been weighing heavy on my mind recently, and I'd like to hear peoples thoughts. It's ironic that I discovered both these posts today. First, I read a somewhat encouraging article from Houston Public Media about a 5% decline in the homeless population from 2018 to 2019. You can read more in the article here: https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/city-of-houston/2019/05/15/333384/homelessness-down-5-in-houston/ . Obviously the stat on mental health spending was a little depressing, but to hear that Harris, Fort Bend, and Montgomery cou

  7. Anyone know if the construction staging area across from Weights & Measures in Midtown is a staging area for the Caroline St renovations, or a new development in of itself? I also heard it could be a staging area for the new Syn Group development down the street at 2403 Caroline which appears to be quite delayed (originally planned to open Fall 2017, haven't seen construction start yet but TABC sign up). The lot was on Loop Net after the Syn Group announcement and has since sold. There is also significant construction in the same lot as Noveau Antique Art Bar, next to the new C
  8. Hey everyone. Still working on my Graduate Thesis and need some input via interview/survey. Tried posting this on r/Houston to get more people involved, but the subreddit sucks because anytime I post it auto removes it classifying it as spam! (seriously?) So thought I post this in a more reliable place...here. Since I'm not able to travel back home to conduct this survey/interview with people from the area I'm researching I was wondering if people within this community could possibly help. I would greatly appreciate it! You don't have to answer all the
  9. Howdy everyone! I'm about to begin my thesis project here in Germany this next semester, but I need some help. I've chosen a site in Houston because I wanted to do something related to home and an issue that is very important to the city (highways). Here is where the site is going to be located: Yes, I'm putting the project over the highway. This project will also take into account the proposed reroute and redesign of the highway. I need help with photos of the surrounding area and of the site from multiple angles at vario

  13. Looks like a residential high-rise is (well, more likely was) planned for 3030 Travis St. Sometime between Jan. 2015 and Aug. 2015 the owners removed all leasing information from the strip center that sits on the site. I was going to dump this in the Houston: Potential thread but there appears to be some intent to build here, just may happen later rather than sooner. http://www.estudioarchitecture.com/# Street View: https://www.google.com/maps/place/3030+travis+st+houston+tx/@29.7429346,-95.3773422,3a,75y,323.82h,90t/data
  14. Does anyone know what the Midtown Redevelopment Authority is planning to do with all of the random lots they own? The odd thing is none of them are actually in Midtown. They're in East Downtown and Third Ward. I see 457 lots on HCAD. I'm just interested to know. Thanks for any insight! idtown redev.pdf
  15. per swamplot below is the link for more details http://swamplot.com/search-homeless-services-will-be-moving-from-midtown-to-this-new-building-in-east-downtown/2015-05-14/
  16. Is the new midtown park fully open? The chain link fence is gone, people are using it, but one of the gates to the dog run is padlocked. (There's two gates but only one is padlocked)
  17. Renderings finally posted in another topic. Very exciting. http://s.lnimg.com/attachments/A55B766C-A6A3-49E0-8EF2-BCB5680D4D1E.pdf

  19. Pearl is really banking on Midtown. I think this brings the total count to 4 possible Pearl complexes in the area.
  20. I walked by the old El Patio Xuco Xicana restaurant and they were putting up new siding over the aluminum addition that was build a few years ago. I always hated the aluminum addition. It looked REALLY tacky. But, the new siding actually looks really good. I don't know if that means a new tenant is moving in or if the owner is doing his own renovations.
  21. This mid-rise is listed under "current projects" on Allen Bianchi's website. Anyone know more? http://www.allenbianchi.com/index.php?option=com_currentprojects&layout=detail&id=2&Itemid=3 Current design:
  22. I guess the Pin-up workout place went out of business, which will disappoint the pervs that would gawk at women working out from across the street. The good news is that they still have a reason to stop by and visit this convenient location. I applaud them on their smart location choice as we all know that the key to success is knowing your neighborhood and it's needs. Hopefully this will help anchor this area and bring in other businesses that would complement the current neighborhood trajectory. I'm thinking a checks cashed, pawn shop, smoke shop, self-defense school, or pain management ce
  23. No official release from MMD, but here's a post from Innerlooped. Link: http://innerlooped.com/1897/midtown-officially-ae-district/ So what does this designation mean for Midtown. Is there a case study for how this designation affects a district? I'm curious.
  24. Anyone know what's going on at the corner of Baldwin & Pierce, right across from Komodo? There's an existing building with a "for lease" sign in front, I believe it's offices. 1916 Baldwin St, currently owned by SMBHC LLC: http://hcad.org/reco...^&bld=1&tab= I'm wondering what's going on with the empty tracts around that structure. For awhile the valets at Cyclone's were using them for parking but now the lots are all torn up, some trenching from the north corner of the lot south east to Baldwin (sidewalk is gone, actually, almost fell in the trench one night walking my dogs
  25. This was mentioned in another thread but it definitely deserves it's own thread. The plans to reconstruct Bagby to help make Midtown a more pedestrian friendly area are being scrapped. http://innerlooped.com/1840/very-bad-news-for-bagby/#comments The Director of Public Works, Daniel Kreuger wants to make Bagby a three lane street to help make cars move faster. This will obviously mean there will be less room for expanded sidewalks and improved landscaping that were originally planned. Commuters interests' are once again being accomodated instead of the interests of residents, pedestrians,
