  1. Noticed Salata is opening up in this strip center. Shoppes At Memorial Village: Retail Center At 1014 Wirt Rd.
  2. The previous owner purchased it from the school district in 1995 and remodeled in 1996. Does anyone know who was the original architect?
  3. Think I'm reading this right? DMRE sold 5.46 Acres that closed on 2/21/2020. I see a demo report for an industrial building at 1128 Silber. Possible multifamily coming? https://dmre.com/property/1128-silber-5-46-acres/
  4. From today's Memorial section of the Chronicle. http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/memorial/news/article/Corridor-to-develop-master-plan-5576265.php The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is planning a West Campus along Park Row to the east of the Addicks Park and Ride.
  5. http://www.trinity.edu/mkearl/death02/deat...e/01Define.html is likely to get a "modern" neighbor. The site is on Memorial Woods Drive, 77024, facing the Katy Freeway directly west and south of its interchange with 610. Kirksey has designed a 16-storey speculative office building and 1,500-space parking garage on what is currently First Baptist Houston's west lot. First Baptist's homepage suggests, "Parking off-site is one of the easiest ways that HFBC members can support the church's ministry. Doing so opens up on-site spaces for visitors, families with young children and individuals with physical limitations. Refer to the online map for available parking options, shuttle routes, and drop-off/pick-up locations." From the day we moved to this location (April 17, 1977), finding room for parking has been a challenge. In fact, the first published "master plan" for this site specified a parking garage on the west parking lot. Since that time, financial constraints and questions concerning feasibility have thwarted at least three attempts to construct a parking garage. This opportunity is the first that brings no additional financial obligation to HFBC and actually returns funds to HFBC in the form of lease payments to the church and the elimination to the church of parking leases and shuttle fees. In April of 2007, representatives of the Gerald Hines Company met with Pastor Gregg and several Deacons to explore the possibility of commercial development on our west parking lot which would include a parking garage containing about 1500 spaces. Following the meeting, Hines paid for a feasibility study including traffic, engineering and architectural issues. In a presentation to the Deacons in August of 2007, Hines asked for a vote of approval to investigate the economic viability of such a project. Now, in January of 2008, they are asking for a congregational vote ensuring the "surety of the proposal." In other words, if Hines can locate the tenants, Trustees of HFBC have the authority to enter into a ground lease. Garage construction would begin no earlier than January 2009 and take approximately 1 year to complete, while the office tower will begin upon 40% pre-leasing. Fun-to-learn-from bunches of renderings, site plans, floorplans and graphical timeline in http://www.houstonsfirst.org/pdf/hines.pdf , so I won't merely post the pictures. 7. Just saw that it is now Option Pending. Anyone know anything ?
  8. Growing up in the Memorial area bck in the 60's, I remember an old plantation style home, that sat at the corner of Memorial Drive and Strey Lane. I don't ever recall seeing much activity, and was always told to stay away from the property. Anyone out there recall this and if so would any information be available? BTW new to forum, so please beear with me as I learn the ropes.
  9. David Weekley (of Weekley home) purchased this after Dr. Kelsey's (of Kelsey-Seybold) death and has purchased a demolition permit. Built in 1956, designed by Wilson, Morris, Crain, & Anderson: http://swamplot.com/weekley-buys-dr-seybolds-1956-mid-century-mod-home-demo-permit-filed/2014-12-02/
  10. Sounds like a high-rise to me...the project will go up along I-610 in Uptown. Listed as North Post Oak Hotel and Residences on the plat tracker. ftp://edrc.houstontx.gov/2013/Applications//2013-3071/SubdivisionPlatPDF_3859-PLAT.pdf
  11. I'd seen this house before, but really noticed it today. It was built by a firm named Bowles & Bowles, which I've never heard of or know anything about, for a patent attorney named James Weiler. Mr. Weiler founded the patent division of Fulbright & Jaworski, and played in a jazz band most of his life. He passed away in December of 2007. I don't know how much longer this house will be around, given the rabid McMansionization of Willowick. http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r85/zoomanderson/_DSC0011.jpg?t=1201654870
  12. If you've lived in Houston for any real length of time, you've probably seen or at least driven by this house. It's on Chimney Rock, just past Memorial Drive: http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r85/zoomanderson/House-On-Chimney-Rock.jpg So who designed it?

  16. This home: http://memorialbendarchitecture.com/12747mem.htm -- a potential William Floyd design -- is likely a goner given its state (pretty sad). Its current state would require a considerable budget to restore/renovate. Has been on the market for an extended period. There's something appealing to me about this property... perhaps its the 'diamond in the rough" aspect. More likely than not a knock-down. This one has been addressed on this site parenthetically, so perhaps we should establish it's own topic: http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...20Memorial%20Dr More here from "Memorial Bend" website: http://memorialbendarchitecture.com/12943mem.htm Appears well maintained and is architecturally distinctive -- could certainly benefit from professional landscaping in keeping with the homes design. A little digging at the downtown library will likely yield information on both the home as well as former occupants should a potential buyer seek a landmark designation.
  17. As posted on swamplot.com this morning, this late 50's home is slated to be demolished: http://har.com/HomeValue/dispSoldDetail.cfm?MLNUM=6432871# Pity as the overall quality appears quite workable -- not to mention original. It's not often you'll find well maintained and non-altered homes of this ilk... no doubt such will be replaced with a home akin to what's next door.
  18. This isn't a real estate posting, so let's just make that clear. http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...20Gershwin%20Dr This house was built by my best friend's parents, on the lot where their old house used to be. Happens a lot in that neighborhood - the families "outgrow" the older home that was there (and that they'd usually been living in for 10 to 15 years) and build something new - but this was the first house in the neighborhood to set that trend. My friend's mother was an artist from Columbia who did very dramatic, mixed-media pieces and the walls of the home doubled as her gallery space. It was basically built as a giant art gallery where she would have showings/parties with an entertaining area in the middle and a huge kitchen to feed all the guests. The bedrooms were more of an afterthought, but still planned out very nicely with extremely European bathrooms (read: bidets). The family moved out of the house about three years ago and it was bought by whomever is selling it now. It's amusing to me to see how the home is decorated without the enormous works of art and very imposing, Baroque antique Columbian furniture throughout the home. Looked so much better before... Anyway, thought y'all would be interested to see an example of a very inner loop type of house outside the Beltway, in Memorial.
  19. The Harris County Medical Examiner sent over another flyer for another unknown dead person. This one looks like a teen-ager. If you know who he is, give the police a call. (Note -- there's a picture of the dead guy in the flyer, so if you're squeamish about seeing dead people, don't open the attachment.) ML08_4173.pdf
  20. Another article with plans and pictures. It says it's on about 3 wooded acres (~130,680 square feet) and about 30 feet from the bayou on the east side of the house. I'm not familiar with it - maybe it's gone? Was the land subdivided? http://www.arch-ive.org/boltonbarnstone/boltonbarnstone_text_400.jpg http://www.arch-ive.org/boltonbarnstone/boltonbarnstone_002_400.jpg http://www.arch-ive.org/boltonbarnstone/boltonbarnstone_plotplan_400.jpg more: http://arch-ive.org/archive/bolton-and-barnstone/
  21. Anyone know the story on this place? It was built around 1970 but demolished last year by its owners (who rebuilt on the land). It was fairly large (~3000 square feet) and valued well on paper (2008 HCAD link). http://www.arch-ive.org/demo/tealwood351_062808_2.jpg http://www.arch-ive.org/demo/tealwood351_062808.jpg http://www.arch-ive.org/demo/tealwood351_062808_13.jpg http://www.arch-ive.org/demo/tealwood351_062808_8.jpg http://www.arch-ive.org/demo/tealwood351_062808_3.jpg more: http://arch-ive.org/archive/351-tealwood/

  24. In my Jenkins research I found this little street. Turns out 11718 Longleaf was by Jenkins but was either torn down or altered and "remodeled" in 1982 according to HCAD. When I went over there I found this house as well thinking it could be Jenkins or Floyd. I mailed the owners of both houses last year but got no reply. Today on a whim I typed longleaf into HCAD and sure enough this house came up. Not a lot of pictures, definite teardown possibility, especially considering the listing. I may drop everything tomorrow to get a look at it if I can get a realtor friend to meet me over there. http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=Y
