There's a different research complex near the main one. Within the complex is the R.E. "Bob" Smith Research Building by MD Anderson and the Smith family. Weirdly enough, it's smaller than the typical mid-story MDA research buildings.

I went inside the MD Anderson Freeman-Dunn chapel the other day. Not too many pictures of this place so I thought I would share. The plaque explaining both families; John H. and Edna S. Freeman, and John S. and Mirtha Dunn. John S. Dunn, Jr. Mirtha Dunn. Chapel.

MD Anderson Mid Campus Developments. I didn't see any other threads referring to this project nor could I find anything about it elsewhere... At any rate, I saw this sign earlier in the afternoon. I wasn't sure of the intersection (I think it's Braeswood @ Cecil, and there's a traffic light there) but it is just east of Fannin in the "new" south side of the TMC. Here's a photo of the sign w/ rendering. Pardon the quality, but it's fun to try shooting at a red light and at an odd angle nearly into the sun. Guessing 24-26 floors? http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w208/houtosme/HouConstruction/DSC01978-1.jpg

A couple years ago, the Towers Motor Hotel at 2130 W. Holcombe was demolished to make way for a Metrontario development called the Life Science Plaza. Metrontario's site gives this information: "This project is currently in the pre-construction phase, with over 100,000 square feet (9,300 square meters) already leased" Does anyone know if this is current, or if there is any newer information on this project? This is the sign on holcombe (pre-demolition, but it is still there) http://arch-ive.org/towers/tow004.jpg http://ephemera.arch-ive.org/postcards/towpc002.jpg

The MD Anderson Percy And Ruth Leggett Jones Research Building is scheduled to be demolished soon. Thought I would create a legacy thread, to remember the old building once it's been demolished. Today I took a photo of the cool, retro looking, building. I wonder the architect? Mackie and Kamrath Architects?

For weeks now, I've been wondering what they are doing at the corner of Moursund Street and MD Anderson Blvd ever since they completely fenced it off. I believe it was an old 60s/70s post office but so far all my results have been saying it was the University of Texas Mental Science building. Either way, the building was torn down and the entire lot has been bulldozed! It's a fairly large corner so I was thinking it may be another tower for the TMC. Anyone know what is going on at this corner?

MD Anderson South Of Holcombe Campus Developments https://www4.mdanderson.org/procurement/bids/index.cfm?pagename=viewBid&id=6738&name=Request for Qualification Owner seeks design-build services for its Pressler Street Garage 2 project. I remember reading an old MDA master plan that said the ROC building at Braeswood & Holcombe will eventually be redeveloped. The single story building sits on such a high profile corner that there is much better opportunities here. This address and corner once housed a high-rise multifamily/hotel development called Park Towers Apartments. Hopefully something tall again rises soon! I stopped by this weekend and took a picture of the street sign.

Found a rendering of the MD Anderson data center located at 5610 Guhn Road this week. I've personally never seen this so I thought I would share with HAIF. Cool find! I wonder what type of clearance at MDACC you would have to have to enter this building? Probably only executives and technology professionals. Interesting location, by the way. You would think they could have bought an industrial warehouse off Almeda and Corder. That's where MD Anderson's industrial buildings are located. The Guhn Road Data Center must have been an old deal or they got the space for incredibly cheap.

MD Anderson is looking to purchase the 3.93-acre parcel that currently houses the National Signs business. This is right next door to their BioHouston Campus On El Rio Street, so the location makes sense. This will probably used for more labs or supply distribution? MDACC has their future East Campus down the block situated along Almeda Road. Interesting that they are buying 4 acres a few blocks away when they could just build on their already-owned land. There is also the Administrative Facilities and Campus Operations in this neighborhood located at 3000 Pawnee Street. MDA owns so much land in this area! Their East Campus could turn out massive. Probably 20-years away, but in due time. Regents' Meetings November 15-16, 2023, Austin, TX – Regular Meeting Purchase U. T. M. D. Anderson Cancer Center: Authorization to purchase and temporarily lease back approximately 3.93 acres of land and improvements, including an approximately 57,620-square-foot light industrial manufacturing building and parking lot, located at 2611 El Camino Street, Houston, Harris County, Texas, from National Signs Real Estate, L.P., a Delaware limited partnership, for mission related purposes. Seller: National Signs Real Estate, L.P., a Delaware limited partnership, and/or assigns. Tenant: National Signs, LLC and/or assigns. Lease Terms: As a condition of closing, the seller will require a temporary lease back of the property to relocate seller’s business to a new facility. The lease term is estimated to be no less than six months from the date of closing and shall have a maximum term expiration date of no later than December 31, 2025. The precise lease term will be determined prior to closing. Seller/tenant may terminate the lease with written notice of 60 days. Lease Rent: The estimated base rental rate for the initial 12 months will be at fair market value, which is initially estimated to be $12.00 per square foot. Tenant will pay the operating expenses, which are estimated to be approximately $5.00 per square foot for the first 12 months. Depending on the agreed upon term of the lease, the approximate total base rent and operating expenses paid by the Tenant will be between $489,770 and $1,498,696.

UMP is composed of two medical office buildings. Addresses are 7501 Fannin and 7505 Fannin. I always liked University Medical Plaza 1. Great addition to the southern part of the TMC. Wanted to add to our TMC database and include it. http://www.camproperties.net/properties.html https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/7501-Fannin-St-Houston-TX/21412321/

FRIDAY, Sept. 8 (HealthDay News) -- Patient trust of doctors is highest in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Boston, Denver and Philadelphia, according to a new survey. The survey of 41,148 people also found that doctors in all the nation's 20 largest cities scored higher than doctors in rural areas in terms of trust, whether the patient would recommend the doctor, and other indicators of patient satisfaction. The results were released by the health-care ratings organization HealthGrades. In the 20 cities, an average of 66.2 percent of patients said they "definitely, yes" trusted their doctors to make decisions/recommendations in their best interests, compared to an average of 61.1 percent in rural areas. Here are the results for the 20 cities: Houston (70 percent); Dallas-Fort Worth (69.2 percent); Boston (68.2 percent); Denver (67.9 percent); Philadelphia (67.8 percent); Chicago (67.7 percent); Miami (67.4 percent); Washington, D.C.-Baltimore (67.3 percent); Seattle (66.7 percent); New York (66.4 percent); Detroit (66.3 percent); Cleveland (66.2 percent); Phoenix (64.9 percent); St. Louis (64.5 percent); Tampa-St. Petersburg (64.4 percent); San Diego (64.2 percent); Los Angeles (63.4 percent); Orlando (62.7 percent); Atlanta (62.6 percent); San Francisco (62.1 percent.................... http://news.yahoo.com/s/hsn/20060908/hl_hs...HNlYwNtZW5ld3M-

The only 15-story hotel I'm aware of that was in the Med Center was the Anderson Mayfair on Holcombe, but I haven't seen a good picture of it. This is the Tidelands. Is this what you were thinking about? http://www.lileks.com/postcards/motels/TX/tidelands.jpg

A new retail building is going up on West Bellfort. Lots of biotechnology companies around Kirby, West Bellfort, Willowbend, and Stella Link. Edit: It looks like MD Anderson occupies a few suites here! MD Anderson has recently occupied 21,220 SF and 24,875 SF at 9220 and 9230 Kirby. The architect for the interior remodels was Powers Brown Architecutre.

There is an active MD Anderson Master Plan thread that will span the next 8-years on HAIF. The Master Plan "closes out" in 2030. https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/45347-md-anderson-tmc-master-facilities-framework-2030/#comment-600706 Will it be hard to keep track of individual buildings in a thread that discusses multiple, 5, buildings? When searching around HAIF, would it be hard to find information and pictures for one, particular, building that is mixed in with 10-years of construction photos of multiple buildings? This topic serves as one, sole, building. The MD Anderson Inpatient Bed Tower. The building looks to have one long podium base with two vertical towers integrated. The UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is preparing to construct a new inpatient bed tower to be located proximate to and interconnected with the institution's Main Building complex, on a site currently occupied by the Percy and Ruth Leggett Jones Basic Research Building, the Bates-Freeman research building, and the Anderson Central Building. The project is also expected to include the construction of two seven-story connectors that will complete a circulation route between 2/3 ACB, the Mays Clinic, and the Duncan Building, forming a complete quadrangle around the central parking structure.
