  1. I went to MD Anderson and walked around to find the Tom Jean Moore Rose Garden. All types and colors of roses are found at this rose garden. It's beautiful. Featuring Red, Yellow, Pink, Orange, and White roses. MD Anderson's website lists: https://www.mdanderson.org/patients-family/becoming-our-patient/while-youre-here/parks-gardens.html Tom Jean Moore Rose Garden Volunteers cut, arrange and deliver roses from this fragrant rose garden to patient rooms on a seasonal basis. Photos I took last weekend: Tom Jean Moore Rose Garden In recognition of generous funding provided through he Volunteer Endowment for Patient Support, and volunteer care of the Tom Jean Moore Memorial Rose Garden to benefit M.D. Anderson patients.
  2. The most infamous green space in the Texas Medical Center. Whoever the landscape architect was did an outstanding job! The small description listed on MD Anderson's parks and gardens webpage: https://www.mdanderson.org/patients-family/becoming-our-patient/while-youre-here/parks-gardens.html The Prairie Enjoy winding trails, trees, benches and birds. This setting features a 2-acre native prairie and wetland restoration, complete with educational signage. Here are some photos that I took today. Prairie Pothole Wetlands, Oasis and Nursery. Flowers and Flyers, MD Anderson Prairie Wildlife Oasis. Return of the Natives, Prairie Returns to the Texas Medical Center. Photo of the week! The TMC skyline with fresh spring bluebonnets. An aerial photograph that I took a few years ago. It is worth noting that there is two proposed buildings planned for this site. I don't think the green space will last much longer.
  3. Today I stopped by MD Anderson's Healthy Living Garden that is located on the west side of the Dan L. Duncan Building. I agree that it's nice to see park land next to all these hospitals. It really does feel peaceful being amongst the grass and flowers. A lot of the parks have uplifting quotes as well. Keep your spirit up! The small description listed on their parks and gardens webpage: https://www.mdanderson.org/patients-family/becoming-our-patient/while-youre-here/parks-gardens.html Healthy Living Garden Observe seasonal herbs and vegetables growing in this demonstration garden. Educational signage provides tips for healthy nutrition. Here are two photos that I took today:
  4. I wonder if that's why all the construction equipment is located at the MD Anderson South of Holcombe campus? Today I stopped by all the different gardens and prairies and noticed the sculpture art. I wonder if this art installation will be located inside the Dan L. Duncan building? It's located right outside. If so, HAIF has broken the news once again! I haven't heard anything in the media about this. These could be old and are being removed? For reference, here is all the equipment behind a blue screen fence. Artwork:
  5. There is a park that spans a few blocks called MD Anderson Wortham Linear Park that contains the Levit Family Garden located at 1212 Holcombe Boulevard. The small park actually has 2 separate water fountains! Impressive. I know who Gus Wortham is but I'm not sure who the Levit family would be. I assume the garden is named after Joe Levit, of Grocers Supply Company. The park starts on the outside of the Lowry and Peggy Mays Clinic.
  6. I never looked hard enough at this beautiful garden and fountain. I don't know who Dorothy Hudson is, but LeRoy Melcher is a commercial real estate developer. Smaller company with only a handful of properties but he has been in the business for a while. Spring season so the flowers are blooming! Very nice arrangement. Here are a few pictures I took over the weekend: The Dorothy H. Hudson Memorial Garden: Welcome to the Chrysalis Gardens, A Place of Healing and Discovery. Flame sculpture art. A symbol of knowledge, achievement, and hope for the future. Commissioned to mark the Golden Jubilee of The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and to honor patients and employees. Celebrated in 1991. LeRoy Melcher, Jr. Memorial Fountain A reminder that peace and tranquility, are best shared. A gift to the patients and employees of The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center from Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Melcher, Sr., LeRow Melcher III, Pierre Melcher, Marc Melcher, Dodd Melcher. And other devoted family members and friends Established 1990.
  7. In the mid 1940s, MD Anderson was granted to setup in the old Baker Estate donated by Rice Institute. A little confused. I thought I read an article that mentioned MD Anderson's first clinics were located in an abandoned military barrack/house. Maybe a Naval house of sorts? I know James Baker was a Captain so it would make sense. Then known as The University of Texas Post-Graduate School of Medicine M.D. Anderson Hospital. You would need to enlarge the image to see the building signage. The James Baker mansion is to the right and the clinic on the left. The Baker stables were turned into a laboratory. The clinics.
  8. Today I stopped by the MD Anderson Operations And Maintenance Building located at 7510 Bertner Avenue. In the spare space, MDACC keeps drinking water in a shiny truck. I thought it was cool how there was an MD Anderson branded tanker truck. Pictures I took today:
  9. MD Anderson has office space in the GreenPark One Medical Office Building located at 7515 Main Street. I thought recently there was a change of ownership in the GreenPark buildings? I remember a few months ago there was building signage being removed. I stopped by today to snap a quick photo. It's actually not a bad looking MOB. Has that "tower" look. Gensler designed this?
  10. The MD Anderson Clinical Research Building At 6767 Bertner Avenue has a very distinct topping on the roof. I've been looking at the copper? features for years and never knew the name of the building. Today I finally figured out the building's name. I wonder what they're for? Also, what's the small building in front? I would assume a garage, but I believe it's a supportive plant for the building?
  11. A little confused. Today I noticed a new MDA complex called Red and Charline McCombs Research Complex. Weird how this is different than the infamous University of Texas Research Park Campus. I only knew of the McCombs School of Business in Austin, TX. I didn't know the McCombs had donated money to our medical center. Very cool! Picture of the signage I took this morning:
  12. The MD Anderson Charles A. LeMaistre Clinic located at 1515 Holcombe Blvd is a hidden gem. The building is one of the very first! Here is a photo I took today.
  13. EYP, now Page Southern Page, designed the MD Anderson Braeswood Garage located at 976 South Braeswood Blvd. Edit: Here's a photo of the garage that I took today.
  14. A lesser known MDA building is the Margaret and Ben Love Clinic located at 1515 Holcombe Boulevard. Here's a photo I took today.
  15. The MD Anderson Lutheran Pavilion is an iconic building in the main area of the MD Anderson patient campus. Photo I took today:
  16. A little not well known building rarely gets talked about. This building is the MD Anderson R. Lee Clark Clinic at 1515 Holcombe Boulvevard. Photo I took today:
  17. The historic CHI St. Luke's/Baylor St. Luke's Hospital Tower has been around for decades. The building is located at 6720 Berter Avenue. The views from this building are great. A family member was treated for cancer here. Here's a picture of the building I took today.
  18. Designed by FKP Architects, the MD Anderson George And Cynthia Mitchell Research Building is a power house. Located at 6767 Bertner Avenue, the building was named after George Mitchell. Photo I took today:
  19. There's a different research complex near the main one. Within the complex is the R.E. "Bob" Smith Research Building by MD Anderson and the Smith family. Weirdly enough, it's smaller than the typical mid-story MDA research buildings.
  20. Gensler designed the GreenPark II Medical Office Building located at 7505 South Main Street. MD Anderson and Texas Children's Hospital leases space here. I stopped by today to snap a picture.
  21. EYP Architects, now Page Southerland Page, designed MD Anderson's Mendelsohn Faculty Center located at 1400 Holcombe Blvd. Edit: I stopped by the building today to snap a quick picture. The trees were in the way but the building is still present.
  22. I went inside the MD Anderson Freeman-Dunn chapel the other day. Not too many pictures of this place so I thought I would share. The plaque explaining both families; John H. and Edna S. Freeman, and John S. and Mirtha Dunn. John S. Dunn, Jr. Mirtha Dunn. Chapel.
  23. The MD Anderson Percy And Ruth Leggett Jones Research Building is scheduled to be demolished soon. Thought I would create a legacy thread, to remember the old building once it's been demolished. Today I took a photo of the cool, retro looking, building. I wonder the architect? Mackie and Kamrath Architects?
  24. Found a rendering of the MD Anderson data center located at 5610 Guhn Road this week. I've personally never seen this so I thought I would share with HAIF. Cool find! I wonder what type of clearance at MDACC you would have to have to enter this building? Probably only executives and technology professionals. Interesting location, by the way. You would think they could have bought an industrial warehouse off Almeda and Corder. That's where MD Anderson's industrial buildings are located. The Guhn Road Data Center must have been an old deal or they got the space for incredibly cheap.
  25. MD Anderson is looking to purchase the 3.93-acre parcel that currently houses the National Signs business. This is right next door to their BioHouston Campus On El Rio Street, so the location makes sense. This will probably used for more labs or supply distribution? MDACC has their future East Campus down the block situated along Almeda Road. Interesting that they are buying 4 acres a few blocks away when they could just build on their already-owned land. There is also the Administrative Facilities and Campus Operations in this neighborhood located at 3000 Pawnee Street. MDA owns so much land in this area! Their East Campus could turn out massive. Probably 20-years away, but in due time. Regents' Meetings November 15-16, 2023, Austin, TX – Regular Meeting Purchase U. T. M. D.
