I have a family member visiting Houston next month. They will be staying near the Galleria. I am looking for hotel recommendations. Uptown has a bunch, and I mean alot of hotels. Which one to choose from? I was looking at the Houston Marriott West Loop By The Galleria At 1750 West Loop South. Would this be an okay choice? Thanks for the input!

By L.M. SIXEL Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle Houston celebrated with fireworks when it kicked off the expansion of the George R. Brown Convention Center and construction of the attached 1,200-room Hilton Americas-Houston hotel four years ago. The 700,000-square-foot addition, which nearly doubled the center's exhibit space, would finally make Houston a player in the lucrative convention industry. That, in turn, would create jobs and generate other economic benefits, city leaders promised at the groundbreaking. But was the city's investment in the center really worth it

http://downtownhouston.org/site_media/uploads/attachments/2014-01-06/140102_Current_Projects_11x17.pdf This proposal has been on the development map for a while now, guess no one really noticed. Anyway, the owner behind the plans recently asked the DRA to increase funding. I'm not sure if the building will be converted to residential or hotel use.

According to Culturemap, looks like Inn at the Ballpark will be rebranded as Westin Houston Downtown on December 6, 2012. Westin already has the hotel listed on its website as well. http://houston.cultu...-hotel-shakeup/

Last week I saw a dumpster permit for the Residence Inn By Marriott Houston Galleria located at 2500 McCue Road. Kind of confused. I thought there was another Marriott close by, the Houston Marriott West Loop By The Galleria At 1750 West Loop S. Guess they are different hotels, just 2 miles away from each other.

Hate to use the cliche' phrases but this is an eyesore and a blight. Its only useful function seems to be as an impromptu urinal for those who have no where else to go (wordplay intentional.) Surprising how one dreary block can contaminate the surrounding area. The Melrose Building is on a high traffic street; this is not a good setting for such a creepy and nasty artifact. Shouldn't downtown be held to a higher standard?

Sourced directly from Marriott Development Corp out of the Dallas office. JW Galleria which opened in the mid to late 1980's and is owned by the Marriott Corp subsidiary REIT, is slated to be sold and rebranded as a "Non Marriott" branded hotel within the near "immediate" future. With the soft opening of the new JW Marriott Downtown scheduled for September 18th 2014, and the full ramp up to take place within the final quarter of 2014. It would not be financially feasible for the current JW Houston (Galleria) to design and complete a renovation, to a standard that wouldn’t diminish and hurt the JW Brand. Apparently having 2 JW Marriott brands in one city within such close proximity was never the intent of Marriott or Pearl Hospitality.

I remember staying here with my family as a kid when we would come to Houston to go to Astroworld and the Dome. It was located at 2100 South Braeswood at Greebriar, and I don't recall seeing it in quite a while. Anyone know what happened to it?

Did anyone know this was being built? I searched and could not find anything on it. Sure it's not headline news, but it's 15 stories and they made it pedestrian friendly. Not sure how much discussion this will get since it's finished, but thought I'd post a notice anyway. PRLog (Press Release) – Aug 24, 2009 – The Courtyard Houston Galleria is a brand new, 15-story upscale hotel in the Galleria district of uptown Houston. Located less than two blocks from the Houston Galleria shopping center, this Houston Galleria hotel is located just minutes from everything. The Courtyard Houston Galleria is also less than 10 miles from Reliant Stadium (Houston Texans) and Minute Maid Park (Houston Astros). http://www.prlog.org/10320071-courtyard-houston-galleria-provides-new-accommodations-as-houston-galleria-hotel.html
