(Katy, Texas) October 8, 2015 – The City of Katy is pleased to announce that the Katy Development Authority has taken a key step forward in the development of the Boardwalk District (as shown in the accompanying rendering) by entering into an agreement with Sueba USA Corporation for the development of a 22-acre parcel located adjacent to Katy Mills Mall. Sueba USA Corporation intends to use the parcel to construct a high quality mixed-use development consisting of loft living space, retail and restaurant facilities, and a public plaza. Sueba USA Corporation’s development will be a strong addition to the Boardwalk District which will also include a convention center, hotel, and restaurant row, all anchored by an 89-acre nature park with a central lake, boardwalks, nature preserves, and a 2-mile walking trail system. Construction of the nature park will commence this winter with an anticipated completion and public opening by the end of 2016. Katy Development Authority and Sueba USA Corporation are excited to be joint participants in the construction of the Boardwalk District — a project that will provide Katy residents and visitors an additional first class development to live, work and play. Katy Development Authority was formed by the City of Katy, Texas to promote economic development through public-private partnerships that support the completion of public infrastructure and high quality private development. Sueba USA Corporation is a Houston based real estate development company that is an established leader in the acquisition, development, construction, and management of both residential and commercial real estate.

Deleted this member. Also banned his e-mail address, and user name and similar ones. Also, he was coming from a computer in the Philippines, so I banned the entire ISP. I should probably ban the entire country. I know other web sites ban all users from Russia, Romania, and a number of Asian countries. I wonder if that would help here, too.

Popular Louisiana Cajun staple Best Stop has opened in Katy. https://www.beststopinscott.com "Houstonians don't have to travel through Louisiana anymore to get boudin from the Best Stop, a Cajun shop all too familiar to travelers on I-10. The Best Stop is now open in Katy, serving its popular boudin, cracklins and po boys from its original location in Scott, Louisiana. This is its fourth location but first outside of Louisiana. A grand opening is planned for the new year." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/restaurants-bars/article/best-stop-houston-katy-texas-18561575.php

https://newsroom.heb.com/h-e-b-opens-companys-largest-ecommerce-fulfillment-center-in-katy/ "H-E-B has opened a new eCommerce fulfillment center (eFC) in Katy, a project that further expands the retailer’s commitment to integrate innovative technologies that drive omnichannel growth and provide a more convenient and better shopping experience for Texans. At more than 100,000 square feet in size, it is the largest eCommerce fulfillment center for the company, coming in at twice the size of previous facilities. The Katy eFC is H-E-B’s first stand-alone location at 2102 Elrod Rd., which will support H-E-B Curbside and Home Delivery orders across the Houston area. Building on the multi-format retailer’s longstanding presence in the area, the move reinforces the H-E-B’s commitment to serve more customers in this growing part of the state."

Have only seen a few brief pieces on potential redevelopment of this site at the Katy Freeway and the Beltway, however this is the first I've been able to find on something concrete. Per bisnow... http://www.bisnow.com/commercial-real-estate/houston/bisnow-exclusive-sneak-peek-at-block-10-west/ It deals with the conversion of the former Great Indoors store into office space, with plans to add a new 15 story building. PDF of current plans from Hicks. This version says the office building will be 12 stories though. http://www.hicksventures.com/assets/pdf/Block10Max.pdf

Thought it would be good to start a thread highlighting the work of the Coastal Preserve Conservancy to save swaths of the remaining Katy Prairie. I didn't realize that they had multiple sites open to the public to access. Those multiple sites comprise the current Katy Prairie Preserve. They recently have purchased 160 acres to add to the sites that they currently manage. The press release says that they currently own about 30,000 acres. The website says 18,000 acres of it is land for wildlife habitats.

There is ongoing work in Katy to develop the elements of a master plan that would see a 3-5 mile trail system linking the new Leyendecker Landing park with VFW & Thomas Parks which would stretch from 1st street to Pitts Road. Phase 1 of the feasibility study was approved several weeks ago. Also included are work to convert the Fussell Home on Franz Road into the 3B Nature Center - a facility to educate on nature and the environment, as well as develop and maintain a bee colony. Increased funding for this project has recently been approved as renovation costs were higher than expected. Work on the existing Parks & Rec Maintenance Staff building or new construction of a replacement has also been discussed. Here is a graphic from Community Impact papers from last May.

The architectural, historical, and cultural icons of Katy must be saved! I think they would make great apartments. Imagine living in the "Rice Tower" with massive concrete walls for insulation and punched out windows with stunning views of the big box development, mall parking lots, and unchecked suburban sprawl. I bet it would sell like hot cakes!

I just saw this and thought it would be an intresting addition to the area. Looks like a waterpark near Katy Mills Mall. https://www.facebook.com/KatyTexas/photos/a.247109592060436.43711.246754612095934/725934494177941/?type=1&theater
