  1. Has anyone noticed that the Extra Points show (which used to be hosted by Bob Allen, Tim Melton and Bob Slovak), has now looked different this year because I've noticed that the guests such as Ralph Cooper, Charlie Pallilo, Kenny Hand, etc., haven't been heard from since like last year. What's going on? http://www.ktrk.com/
  2. While McGuff was on vacation, Jerry Vazquez (executive producer for Ch. 13), was named the news director for KTMD-TV Telemundo 47 last week on July 31st. Today was his first day as the Houston Telemundo station's Vice President of News. "I am excited to be joining a great team of professionals that are established in the market," Vazquez told mikemcguff.com. "Together we are going to do some great things and grow the station." http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/07/jerry-vazquez-ktmd-telemundo-houston-news-director.html http://www.broadcastingcable.com/news/fates-and-fortunes/vazquez-named-ktmd-houston-vp-news/132940 Any reaction on Vazquez leaving Ch. 13 to tackle the news director gig at KTMD ?
  3. KPRC-TV NBC 2 Houston has a new weekend sports anchor in Simone Eli, who recently left WALA-TV Fox 10 in Mobile, Alabama. Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com reported that Eli started working at the station today. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/07/simone-eli-kprc-2-weekend-sports-anchor.html?m=1 http://www.kprc.com/ Reaction from anyone on Eli joining KPRC ?
  4. Exclusive from MikeMcGuff.com, this afternoon, KTRK Ch 13 news director Dave Strickland announced to the staff in an email he's leaving the ABC-owned station. Rumors have been swirling the last few weeks that Strickland was leaving the station. He hadn't been at the station during that time. In the memo, Strickland cited the job was affecting his family, life and personal relationships. Strickland was news director for 14 years. He started at KTRK-TV as an intern, worked his way up to sports producer, then news director. In between his KTRK time, Strickland was news director of WAVY-TV 10 Norfolk, VA. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/07/ktrk-abc13-news-director-dave-strickland-resigns.html?m=1 Reaction from this development of Strickland leaving Ch. 13 ladies and gentlemen?
  5. KPRC-TV has a new news director, Rhonda Errer LaVaelle, who replaced Deborah Collura, who bolted to WCVC-TV Charlotte, NC. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/07/rhonda-errer-lavelle-kprc-2-news-director.html?m=1 Reaction from anyone on this development?
  6. With Courtney Zubowski and Katherine Whaley leaving KHOU-TV for "new opportunities". There's been rumors going on that some people don't like the Gannett ownership at KHOU and are leaving the station, changing things such as forcing reporters and others to carry their own stuff to do news reports, kicking out longtime people, who've been at formerly-owned Belo stations for 2 or 3 decades. There's also the part of demoting weekday or weeknight anchors to sideline reporters, which is considered an insult. What's y'all take on the ongoing turnover at Gannett stations such as KHOU ?
  7. Another one bites the dust at KHOU-TV CBS 11 Houston. Investigative reporter Courtney Zubowski is leaving the station after 6 years and plans on going into new opportunities in the private sector. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/ http://www.khou.com/ Reaction from anyone on Zubowski's departure which is slated to take place later this month?
  8. Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com reported on Tuesday that KTRK Ch 13 Eyewitness News reporter Deborah Wrigley had just wrapped up her day covering the Houston Fire Department contract vote, and then suddenly needed the department's services. As she posted on Facebook, Wrigley was hit by a car on her way home. She described it as "being in a blender of car parts." She appears to be OK now based on the fact she took to Facebook to recount the event. Wrigley's words of advice: "drive defensively!" http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/06/deborah-wrigley-in-accident-ktrk-abc13.html?m=1 Reaction from anyone on Wrigley's accident?
  9. According to Mike McGuff, longtime anchorman Dave Ward celebrated his 75th birthday on Tuesday, May 6th. He's now 75 years old, plus he's getting close to 50 years on Ch. 13, considering he's been there since 1966. http://www.ktrk.com/ http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/05/how-old-is-ktrk-abc13s-dave-ward.html?m=1 Any thoughts on Ward's 75th birthday?
  10. Mike McGuff and The Insite both reporting Fox 26 reporter Ford Atkinson will be retiring from Fox 26 after 22 years, joining the station in 1992 and anchored the weekend newscasts in 1997. Before joining KRIV-TV, Atkinson came to Houston in 1982 and worked for KPRC-TV NBC 2 for several years before working for the Harris County Sheriff's Department. McGuff also noted that Atkinson hadn't been seen on the air since last year. Could it be that GM D'Art Bebel is acting like a dictator in driving good folks away from Fox 26 such as the late Robert Smith, Mike Barajas, Cecilia Sinclair, etc., Y'all reaction to Atkinson retiring from Fox 26?
  11. Houston Chronicle and Mike McGuff both reporting KHOU-TV CBS 11 Houston morning anchor Ron Trevino was arrested on a drunken driving charge. According to county court records, it is the 55-year-old's first such offense. The records stating Trevino was taken to jail with break set at $500. Trevino is a 29-year KHOU veteran who began his television career in high school, according to his KHOU biography page. He is scheduled to appear in misdemeanor court on March 19. In the statement posted on their website, KHOU staff wrote that they were "aware of the circumstances surrounding the arrest and are grateful that neither Ron nor any others were injured in this incident." According to the statement, "Ron will go through the system and present his own defense. KHOU supports Ron as he goes through the legal process." Susan McEldoon, the station's general manager, was not immediately available for comment, and messages to Trevino's Facebook accounts were not returned. Y'all reaction to the developments surrounding Trevino ?
  12. KPRC-TV NBC 2 Houston is turning into a revolving door & it's happening again: Weekend evening news anchor Irika Sargent will be leaving the Houston NBC station after three years & heading for WFOR-TV Miami, where she will join the CBS 4 news team in May. She will partner with Rick Folbaum to co-anchor the station's weekday early evening & 11:00 PM newscasts. Mike McGuff of McGuff Blog has reported the story. Any reaction from any of y'all of Sargent leaving KRPC and what's happening to the station ? http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/02/irika-sargent--kprc-wfor-miami.html
