  1. Found this rendering of the Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital Campus. I don't think it was built as proposed. The tower definitely did not get built. June 16, 1971. An $80 million medical complex will be constructed at Beechnut and the Southwest Freeway it was announced Friday, by a spokesman for Memorial Baptist Hospital System.
  2. Kajani Capital Group will develop a multifamily community on 10.8 acres of land it recently acquired near Highway 59 in northeast Houston. The 300-unit multifamily project, will be part of the Kingwood Place development located in the HEB-anchored center at the southwest corner of Hwy 59 and Northpark Drive. https://realtynewsreport.com/kajani-starting-apartment-project/
  3. I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire & Southwestern Texan dated March 5, 1975 and came across a business listing for Kettle Restaurant located at 5545 Southwest Freeway. Formally, in the ad, the restaurant is called Kettle Pancake House. I believe they go by two different names. Did anyone eat here? Any pictures of the building? I'm surprised a pancake house would offer employees both paid vacations and a retirement plan.
  4. I was browsing The Bellaire & Southwestern Texan dated September 23, 1964 and came across a business listing for Palms Theatre. Palms Theatre - Sugar Land, Texas 10 Min. Out On S-W Frway. I never even heard of this theater. I don't see anything on the famous cinematreasures.org archive website either. Was this possibly rebranded? Is there an exact address for this place? Looks like it's somewhere off 59 South/Southwest Freeway. Very cool find! Anyone ever been here?
  5. AT&T is selling their 1.28 acres on the side of the freeway. Such prime land here. The marketing flyer says "High Profile". The small building has been for sale for about a year. Loopnet listing: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/3773-S-US-59-Hwy-Houston-TX/25983396/
  6. This building went under renovations last year. You don't hear Class-B and River Oaks in the same sentence often. https://transwestern.com/property/river-oaks-medical-center
  7. Office development for sale on 59 at Newcastle. Reminds me of the S&B Engineers office for sale down the freeway on South Rice. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/Executive-Plaza-Houston-TX/24967501/
  8. Satya mixed-use development coming to Rosenberg - Houston Business Journal (bizjournals.com) New 312-unit multifamily project at the southwest corner of SW Freeway & 36, directly east of the Epicenter site. The existing shopping center will gain additional tenants. The project includes the return of Starbucks (under construction) to the intersection, as well as a return of Arby's to Rosenberg and a new Taco Bueno among other leases. Some of the comments from Satya's president in the piece were a bit odd IMO. The bit about it having been several years since a multifamily development was built in the city is not accurate given Sueba USA's two building project with three fewer units than this proposal opened at the start of the year in Brazos Town Center. A second multifamily project of 234 units from Sueba is also planned for that development as well, just behind the Hampton Inn. The other comment "...the next loop which is going to go around the city is Highway 36. That's the major thoroughfare plan" - I'm not sure what that even means. 36 is not a loop like 99/8/610. The only analogue to a loop locally is Spur 10, which has already been upgraded to accommodate truck traffic between 59 & 36. Maybe it's that 36-A proposal that hasn't really gone anywhere? I'm not sure.
  9. I saw this lot get gated on my way to work and was wondering if anyone knows whats going on here? Does it have to do with the i59/610 rebuild? There are way too many gas stations in the area (7 in a 1 mile radius), so whatever it is, I'm sure its better than a gas station. IMG_3611.heic
  10. Always wondered when this would be sold for something of higher value. Prime location. Weslayan & 59. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/4015-Southwest-Fwy-Houston-TX/21166287/
  11. Per last week's Deal Sheet. Rick Williams, co-founder of Texas Direct Auto, has entered into a lease/purchase agreement for a 7.74-acre tract on Southwest Freeway between Rookin Street and Tarnef Drive that was the former location of a Southwest Lincoln Mercury Automobile dealership. Colliers International’s Bill Byrd and Marshall Clinkscales represented property owner Hillcroft & Rookin Properties LLC, and Jon Stautberg represented Williams. https://www.bisnow.com/houston/news/deal-sheet/this-weeks-houston-deal-sheet-90506
  12. Saw this on the news this morning. http://abc13.com/traffic/gulf-freeway-ramp-to-close-for-six-months/2716294/
  13. I saw that they are removing all of the vines on the spur entrances to 59 from midtown. I thought that those were the best looking part of any of our freeways in the whole city. Pretty pumped to see the grafiti that goes up on the walls instead of the vines.
  14. Per Bisnow, this memorial was recently dedicated in Memorial Park in Sugar Land. Haven't heard of using tilt-wall for this sort of construction before. More on the design and planning can be found here.
  15. got an email from the Montrose Management District-- Breaking News: the Texas Transportation Commission received their recommended list of projects from staff and voted to approve the Montrose Management District’s application for funding to re-light the bridges over US Hwy 59 at their meeting Thursday morning. This project will replace the non-functioning original light strands with a state-of-the-art LED lighting system that not only will bring back the illumination that has been missing from the US 59 corridor for almost ten years, but will also create a safer environment both below the bridge decking and also for vehicular & pedestrian traffic on the bridges. The linkage provided by the Montrose bridge cannot be understated. Montrose is the only north/south connector west of the Central Business District that connects traffic from the heavily traveled I-10 to the Medical Center. The bridges not only provide a vital mobility link to communities on both sides, but also are a source of pride for the entire region due to their iconic nature. then I googled this: http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/west_university/news/m-grant-awarded-for-lighting-of-bridges-over-hwy/article_b4584127-5b33-5eb0-ad79-dd1d1239f519.html
  16. The Master-Planned Community will bring a town center, medical center, offices, multifamily homes, etc to the Porter/New Caney area. Tree's have already been cut down for Grand Parkway (visible to see on 59). The Grand Parkway will split the two sides of the community and will be 2 miles and a half south from the new Grand Texas Theme Park.
  17. It's a pair of ragged 6 or so story buildings on the the Southwest Freeway - between the frontage road and Westpark. Next to the City of Houston Recycling center. For years, it looked derelict, but over the last year or so, someone has slowly been fixing it up. Wondering if anybody knew what it was and what it is going to be? http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=29.725365,-95.481942&spn=0.000037,0.015557&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=29.72537,-95.481844&panoid=lLJTnh17jIXHID8MtvQbXg&cbp=12,270,,0,0
  18. Looking for a bit of history on the Chase bank in the Greenway area off of US 59 and Buffalo Speedway. It has the gold dome and I remember back when the Rockets were winning championships they covered the dome with a Basketball tarp. Anyway, I am looking for the origins of this building just for my own curious reasons.
  19. What is being built near the intersection of Westpark & 59? There is some serious earth work being done. The site is at the northeast quadrant of the intersection, with a service station on the hard corner. The site has been vacant for years. Someone told me that it once housed a small amusement park that shut down after a murder in the 1970s. This was seen as the beginning of the surrounding area's decline. I don't have high expectations for this site, given the state of the surrounding area, but I am curious nonetheless.
  20. 4500 Travis Street, Houston TX 77002 http://www.bidclerk.com/project.1339216.html http://www.houstonmidtown.com/cms_templates/cmst_cal_popup.cfm?id=2459&dir=1
  21. (Tower on the left, and the Glass tower on the right) http://www.medistarcorp.com/developments.shtml#development1 Does anyone know any additonal info on this? Medistar Corp. (the developer) recently has had problems with their developments.....
  22. Any idea what else is going in the new retail center at Kirby & 59? I saw a Corner Bakery going in, and the website lists it as 2615 Southwest Freeway, but I've been unable to find any more information on it. I've searched on here and couldn't find any info either, my apologies if I just missed it!
  23. Related to the recent accident involving Emilio: Quick wits, steely nerves and a healthy fear of things unseen
  24. Does anyone re member when the POS opened and closed (years)? They were located @ the SEC of today's 610 and 59, just north of Bellaire. When they were demolished, I retrieved a metal post from a railing surrounding the horse ring. Also, in the late 1970's, Ranch 74 Beef had an outlet there (the stables were already gone). Thanks for responding!
  25. While driving by the Girl Scout Headquarters on the S.W. Freeway, I noticed that a fence was erected around the structure. Any news on this one? I haven't heard anything on the news and nothing on the web about it's fate as to whether or not it's going to be reconstructed, demo'ed or sold.
