Love the name of this service station!! There is actually a gas station in present times, called Medical Center Shell on the corner of Fannin Street and Old Spanish Trail. From the newspaper The Thresher dated December 15, 1950. Announcement Another Good Gulf Station Grand Opening Saturday, December 16 Santa Claus will be on the drive! Gifts for the kiddies! Orchids for the ladies! Souvenirs and refreshments for all! Inspect this modern service station. See the Motor Clinic with Chassis Dynamiter-- the scientific way to diagnose your moor and tune it without guesswork. Gulf Medical Center Service Station 6430 Fannin / Phone Keystone 0913

I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated October 1, 1958 and came across a Grand Opening ad for the Willowbend Gulf Service located at 4201 Willowbend Blvd. Willowbend Blvd at Greenwillow. Looks like an awesome grand opening celebration. Clowns, candy, balloons, drinks, prizes, etc. Owner-Manager: Chris Christoffel I assume the old service station is where the present-day broken down shack is by the train tracks? That would be closer to Willowbend & Craighead. The gas station is said to be at Willowbend & Greenwillow. Where those 3-story town homes are. The address, 4201 Willowbend, puts this in the middle of the NRG utility field. Present-Day shack. Looks like it could have been a service station with having those 2 garages and that covered fill-up area. Edit: The shack has an address of 4125 Willowbend. Not sure if they are related anymore.

I was browsing the newspaper The Bellaire Citizen dated September 21, 1950 and came across a business ad for Humble Service Station located on Old Spanish Trail at Old Main Street Road. Pretty cool! Humble gas stations are no long around. Seems this was the grand opening as the ad says "They'll be orchids for the ladies at the opening of the new Humble Service Station - Gala Opening Saturday." Looks like the manager was W.G. Lopas, Jr. Agent. I forget if there's a gas station there today?

Coming soon!!! Chevron Star Stop- Car Wash, Taqueria, and Washateria located on the corner of Buffalo Speedway and West Airport Blvd. It's possible TMC bought the land for their TMC BioPort campus. We will see if the Chevron gets built anytime soon. I was joking the intersection should build an Exxon to complete the trifecta of Shell, Chevron, and Exxon. I wonder who HAIF prefers

The Shell Star Stop gas station at the corner of Buffalo Speedway & West Airport Blvd. was built in only 6 months. The developer had to clear vacant forest land to build. There is a planned Chevron across the street. They are pulling a South Post Oak & Willowbend. Maybe they can add an Exxon on the other corner (for sale listed by JLL) which would replicate the SPO & Willowbend intersection. Anyway, if things go as planned. This intersection will be booming with activity in a few years. The TMC BioPort Campus is located here. Picture I took a few days ago.

Anyone else notice the conversion of the abandoned Texaco gas station to a sparkly Shell station? Looks 1,000 times better. Plus you have a new Chikfila going up across the street. This corner is starting to get refreshed. Maybe, but not likely, the Kroger could be redeveloped into multifamily with grocery on the ground level. The medical center could use more housing.

Interesting dome shaped gas station at the Kirby & Main intersection. Found this on the A Field Guide to Gas Stations in Texas book. https://www.thc.texas.gov/public/upload/preserve/survey/highway/TxDOT Field Guide to Gas Stations in TX 2016.pdf

Shell Star Shop At 3239 Telephone Rd.
jbd2000 posted a topic in Third Ward and University of Houston
Both tracts of land are being cleared, I could not find anything on the Houston permitting website, a neighboring tract 3235 telephone road is also vacant. All these tracts are at the corner of telephone and south wayside, a block away from I45, and about a mile or so from the new UH medical school building. This exit on 45 would be the shortest way to get to the medical college from a freeway. -
Disappointing to see another historic demo (per HCAD this structure goes back to 1926), though IMO this building has been in fairly rough shape for years. New permits suggest a 4K sq foot c-store + kitchen. Hoping that with Caveza closing across the street this can bring some new life into the area - and it's something more than the c-store (Oscar's) that is already just a block north of here...

Does anyone have any idea what's going on at 8730 Westheimer? It used to be a run down Splash Hand Car Wash, but it was demolished and is fenced off with heavy activity. Looks like something large scale. Sorry could not get a picture.

Subdivision plat was filed back in June. The developer looks to be the residential division of SLS Properties. This is where the old Shell gas station was at OST & Fannin. SubdivisionPlatPDF_04.25.19 - Plat.pdf

Anyone know what's going on at this Shell station? They took out the underground tanks and the pumps last week. They backfilled the hole and the windows and doors have been boarded up since. flipper
