Lamar Cato designed the Friendswood School in 1939. The school has since been renamed to Friendswood Junior High School. You can tell the original 1930s building by this satellite image of the current school campus. The Lamar Cato deigned-building is the AA Gymnastics Academy building.

In the latest development in Friendswood’s downtown district, local company Tannos Development Group celebrated the topping out of a four-story, 106,000-square-foot medical office building, 1715 Friendswood, on Dec. 5. The $23 million building at the corner of FM 518 and FM 528, at 1715 S. Friendswood Drive, is nestled behind the Virgata Commons shopping center, which was completed earlier this year. Tannos purchased the 3.7 acres from Virgata Property Co. this past spring and started construction in late May. Before 1715 Friendswood, the firm built the 64,000-square-foot 505 South Friendswood Drive and moved its own offices into it. Tannos is also in the permitting phase for The Albritton, a 102,000-square-foot, four-story mixed-use building with apartments, office and retail at 408 S. Friendswood Drive. https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2022/12/07/tannos-development-group-friendswood-office-topout.html

I was browsing the newspaper The South Belt Press dated June 28, 1978 and came across a business ad for Kings Hall Stables located at 9655 Hall Road (behind Kirkmont.) Instruction under Capt. Harry E. Whittaker. The current site looks to be a vacant field for water retention? There is also a Private Mini Storage near the area. Are there several types of horse riding? As I am researching the numerous Houston stables I am seeing "English Riding" and "Western Riding." Does anyone remember this place? Share your memories!!

Shell Employees Recreation Area/Shellwood Park On FM 518
Mikeytex posted a topic in Historic Houston
Does anybody (besides me) have any recollection of Shellwood? It was on the corner of 518 and 528 in Friendswood, and was bascially a park for Shell employees. They always had their company picnics there. It was very wooded and had a pool, tennis and basketball courts, picnic tables, etc.... I always knew where it was, but my Mom's friend told me there was a subdivision where it once was (I never knew that it was bounded by 528). The "lake" is still there, and is located right off of the creek (Clear Creek perhaps?). I was wondering if anybody could share some memories of it.
