  1. The old Alamo Tamale had a fire last week and today the HFD Arson investigators were on site.
  2. I noticed work was being done here. https://gis.ehrainc.com/portal/apps/storymaps/stories/b8499817945e4c158cd81e4b172ca789 These were from a few days ago.
  3. Proposed plat for Harrisburg Center. Note: This across the street from the Lawndale apartments under construction.
  4. The city's database shows a demo permit on file as of Jan. 10 for 1212 Milby Street. This parcel has been for sale since last year -- there was a large for sale/lease sign out front for many months. Per the listing agent's web site, it sold at some point. https://www.colliers.com/en/properties/sold-70585-sf-building-on-311-acres/usa-1212-milby-street-houston-tx-77023/usa1093132
  5. The Magnolia Fund has announced that they're under contract at 6600 Harrisburg. The Magnolia Fund is an investment fund looking to build entrepreneurial opportunities for East End residents while maintaining the neighborhood's culture. They plan to redevelop the three buildings on this lot for food entrepreneurs while also providing meeting and entertainment space. If successful, I think this project could spur a lot of development in the blocks around the Cesar Chavez stop on the Green Line. There are some really cool buildings with minimal setbacks throughout this stretch of Harrisburg that could activate the pedestrian space along the rail. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/6600-Harrisburg-Blvd-Houston-TX/20187877/ https://www.instagram.com/p/C1xVuBQOWao/?img_index=2
  6. While looking over the architect's website I came across this office building. Architect - https://quadroarchitecture.com
  7. Here is another example of townhomes that Tomo Homes builds near East River.
  8. The bottling facility on Leeland at Milby, which operated under the LLC Caledonia Water Co., has been seemingly vacant for some time. What used to be a full parking lot now has one, maybe two cars occasionally. The LLC lapsed in 2022. The property was once put up for sale and lease by HCAD-listed owner Jane Nguyen (also the now-lapsed water LLC's officer, president, and director) on myriad web sites. Recently, it was pulled. https://www.showcase.com/3719-leeland-st-houston-tx-77003/23772485/ https://www.crexi.com/properties/680523/texas-industrialcommercial-warehouses-house-land-for-sale On Dec. 7, permits for this location were on file at CoH for Aragoso, a Maryland-based wholesale distributor of Brazilian beer, wine, and spirits. Aragoso has US-based locations in Florida and Texas, per its web site: https://aragosotexas.com/home/ The Texas region does not currently list Houston.
  9. Looks like this lot is for sale: https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2619-Polk-St-Houston-TX/29787285/
  10. Plan Review permit for a parking lot/parking garage. Permit has Magic Johnson Enterprise Holdings Corp as the owner. https://magicjohnson.com
  11. Pagewood and Wile Interests plan to redevelop 10 blocks in EaDo into a mixed use development, including many Houston favorites. https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2023/11/13/pagewood-wile-interests-develop-east-blocks-eado.html?cx_testId=40&cx_testVariant=cx_27&cx_artPos=0#cxrecs_s
  12. After years of not being used, the Boys and Girls Club at 2411 Canal is for sale. Saw the sign go up today. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/2411-Canal-St-Houston-TX/30005003/ I couldn't find another thread for this, so started a new one. Feel free to merge into an existing thread of it exists.
  13. Proposed plat for Turkey Bend. Developer is Kensinger Donnely.https://kensingerdonnelly.com
  14. Earlier this week I was researching the Baker Ripley family. They even built the Savoy Apartments turned Hotel! Architect who designed the building was none other than Maurice Sullivan. I saw a photo of the old building, must been built in the 1940s. However, there wasn't an exact location, an address, to be found. Later on, I found the address! Text on the building states ? Baker Ripley Foundation An article from the newspaper The Bellaire Texan dated June 29, 1977. Houston Community College Offers Free Typing Houston Community College System is now offering free typing classes to persons who quality for the educationally disadvantaged adult program-- Classes are also being held at Dow Elementary School, 1900 Kane, Ripley House, 4401 Lovejoy; Magnolia Park YMCA; 7305 Navigation; Kashmere High School, 6900 Wilevale; Sutton Elementary School, 7402 Albacore; and West University Elementary School, 3756 University.
  15. Was surprised there wasn't a post for this address yet, had to finally stop lurking and create an account to make sure it was posted. The site of the former King Fuels gas station has been boarded up for a few months, and I've seen demolition dumpsters next to the building. There is a continuous security fence around both the gas station site, as well as the vacant lot behind it. The combined site looks to be a total of 1.04 AC per this LoopNet advertisement. I believe the structure shown at the bottom of the picture below was demolished a while ago. Would love to see this site developed into a mixed-use mid-rise with some ground level retail given its proximity to the Coffee Plant station on the Green Line.
  16. A little confused. Well, maybe it makes sense? The Houston Monarchs had both a field, and a stadium. When Houston Monarchs first started, they were playing in a field called East End Park. After growing as a team with the combined fans and spectators they built themselves a stadium. Photograph of the Mexican Inn baseball team. Photograph of the Mexican Inn Baseball Team, Houston Texas. Spectators are seen sitting on the back in the stadium. A pair of bats and catcher's shin guards and his chest pad are seen on the grass in front of the players. 17. Found the address to this old Westheimer Warehouse Company! All the internet articles just state the cross streets of Commerce Street and Live Oak Street. Interior of Fire Proof Warehouse of Westheimer Warehouse Co. Phone Preston 1950 From the newspaper The Houston Post. dated April 19, 1915. 18. Found a few rare base ball diamond fields on this cool website. I've personally never heard of them so I thought I would share with HAIF. Credit: https://sabrhouston.org/local-history/ Houston Monarchs Vs. So. Pacific at East End Park. Aug. 8th 1926. Paid Admission 1,000 - Score 9-8 favor Houston Monarchs - City Champions.
  19. Sometimes referred to Eleemosynary Institutions, I found the original, first, BakerRipley center! Known either as Settlement House, Houston Settlement Association, or Rusk Settlement. In 1907, Alice Graham Baker hosted a meeting of twelve influential, like-minded women to address the living conditions of families in Houston's Second Ward (today's East End). What grew out of that meeting was the Houston Settlement Association, which later became BakerRipley. https://bakerripley.org/about/our-story/ Rusk Settlement. 301 Gable Street. A Community Chest Agency. Visitors Welcome. Photo dated 1910: The City of Houston 1921 directory lists: Settlement House- 61 Gabel. Club house for use of the public, also kindergarten, dispensary, and day nursery. Under supervision of the Houston Social Service Bureau.
