He really helps me get through with my depression, I hope more people find him and listen to his sermons. -
I was a Boy Scout sometime around 1967- 70 I Don’t even remember the troop number??? So does anyone remember the Boy Scout Troop that was sponsored by Fulbright Memorial Methodist church 215 W. 27th Houston, Texas 77008? I remember Wayne Gum as scoutmaster. Assistant scoutmaster Mr. Tink? I do remember several weekend camp outs in Spring Creek Park Tomball, Texas along with several big deals like Boy Scout Jamborees held at Camp Strake just south of Conroe, Texas. If anyone has any photos or memories of this troop please post and share. -
I only just recently saw this beautiful cathedral on Woodway near Sage the other day. It is absolutely beautiful! I didn't think they built stuff like this anymore. Just wanted to share if you haven't seen it. Does anyone remember the first location of Braeswood Assembly of God Church? It was on Braeswood, of course. It was small. Then they built what was then a large building and moved into it on Fondren Avenue. I am searching to find the exact date when the new building was opened. Can anyone give me a clue? I believe it was 1973 or 4. Thanks

I viewed this process as simply a resident of Montrose. The Churches journey seemed an Arduous and perhaps painful process. After 18 years of observing the amount of commendable community service this church had provided for Montrose………I was somewhat gobsmacked ( technical term used by women of a certain age.) at how it all played out.

Trinity Episcopal Church Main @Holman Established in 1893, Trinity Episcopal Church acquired this site in 1910. Construction of the sanctuary, designed by architect Ralph Adams Cram, began in 1917 and was completed in 1919. Features of the Gothic revival structure include a basilica plan with an offset buttressed and pinnacled tower, and art glass windows. Five rectors of the parish became bishops in the Episcopal church. Trinity Church continues to serve a large active congregation. This building is in the National Register of Historic Places

I had gotten a email about the Reid Memorial United Methodist Church located at 5203 Fulton, Houston,Texas. It had at one time a cemetery next to it called BROOKS CEMETERY. The church decided to expand around the 1940's so family of the deceased were asked to move their loved ones. Most were moved, some were not. Mary E. Peterson said her Grandfather William Henry Shackelford born 1883 ARK died in Houston 1913 is buried there. The problem is the church has no records. Where her grandfather is buried is covered over with a building and a paved driveway. 1. Would any one know how old the church building is? 2. Would any one know of or has heard of the Brooks Cemetery. 3. How could I find out what was located at this location back before 1940? Thanks for any help.

This link gives good detail of it's beginning's to present. http://www.abcsoffaith.com/artchurch/annuncc.htm Been attending since childhood and although it has had fairly recent restorations it is in need once again. Can't help but notice the signs of rain coming through and paint peeling. You must take a tour one day to really appreciate it's grandeur. The narrow stairs leading to the pipe organ are a something else. You must study the intricate detail of the stain glass windows throughout and the gothic furnishings within. I could wonder in this place for hours examining every detail in the interiors. First Presbyterian Church of Houston Main @ Binz Organized March 31 (Easter Sunday), 1839, in Senate Chamber, Capitol of Republic of Texas, Main at Texas, by the Rev. Wm. Youel Allen, missionary from the United States, and eleven members. James Burke was elected ruling elder. Services of worship and a Sunday School (begun on May 13, 1838) continued in Capitol while church building was being erected on site (NW corner, Main and Capitol) given by the Allen family which had founded Houston. This church was the first house of worship completed in Houston. Dedicated on Feb. 13, 1842, it was used for meeting of other denominations and groups. Here the House of Representatives met in summer of 1842, and President Sam Houston addressed a joint session of Congress. Thus the congregation repaid the Republic's hospitality of 1838-1839. Original church burned 1862; a brick structure was built in 1867, and served until the erection of a large stone edifice, Main at McKinney, 1894. Fire destroyed part of that building in 1932. The present church was occupied in 1948 and dedicated Sept. 12, 1954. Through the years, this church body has furnished many outstanding leaders to the businesses and professions of state and nation.

I'm getting married in May and am on the hunt for a small historic chapel in the city of Houston, similar to St. John Church in Sam Houston Heritage park. I heard Addicks United Methodist would fit the bill, but it's a ways out. On the corner of Beltway 8 and Westheimer there's an old looking chapel, but am not sure what it's called or if it's in operation. Can anyone provide recommendations?

Patrick Feller has added a photo to the pool: While the church is 130 years old, the white domed stuccoed sanctuary was designed by architect Frederick Booker. A fire in 1994 resulted in the roof being replaced with the current geodesic dome. View the full article
