  4. Following the departure of reporter Jessica Holloway (formerly of KVUE-TV ABC 24 Austin), who left Ch. 13 to work in the Harris County Tax Assessor's office. Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com reporting Angela Chen is now with the Houston Disney/ABC Television Group station after being with KOLO 8 Reno News Now as a morning reporter/fill-in anchor for the past year. According to her Linkedin account, Chen has also been a New York Times Freelance Contributor for the past 2 years. Ahead of Reno, Chen worked as a freelance reporter for San Diego 6 News XETV-TV & KBAK/KBFX the CBS/Fox duo in Bakers
  5. Anyone remember this newscast from Ch. 13 during the summer of 1984, but this video doesn't have the date of the newscast. Can anyone find out what date it was ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAHqGem2X2c
  6. Following KPRC-TV and other NBC stations' lead, sources at KTRK Ch 13 said the station's master control department is going by the way of outsourced automation. The staff announcement yesterday noted KTRK and other Disney ABC Television Group-owned stations (KABC, WLS, WABC, WPVI, etc.,) will be undergoing outsourcing master control operations to Encompass Digital Media, Inc., in Atlanta, GA. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/07/ktrk-and-abc-stations-to-start-central.html?m=1 Reaction from anyone on this development?
  7. For anyone, who has watched Ch. 13's news reports over the years, here's one of their news reports about the 711 Woodway Square Apartment Fire in their 6pm newscast on July 31, 1979: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFyFWK1EOsU
  8. Former KHOU-TV morning traffic anchor Katherine Whaley posted on Facebook she's now working for Ch. 13. Sunday night, Whaley changed the jobs field on her Facebook account to "Started Working at KTRK-TV." Does this mean she's taking the morning traffic anchor/reporting gig Ch. 13 was advertising recently? "You may remember I am an active blogger, covering Houston food, my original recipes and travel," Whaley told mikemcguff.com last July. "I am planning to relaunch the site later this month. Stay tuned!" But will Ch. 13 allow Whaley to continue her Dash of Decadence blog ? Plus, the bigger que
  9. Kaitlin McCulley recently joined Ch. 13 as a news reporter last week from WIAT-TV 42 of Birmingham, Alabama, where she worked as an MMJ/reporter since 2011. Before that, she had interned at WWSB-TV Tampa, FL and Morning Joe of MSNBC in 2009. What are your thoughts on McCulley joining the "13 Eyewitness News" team ? http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/09/kaitlin-mcculley-joins-ktrk-13.html
  10. Ch. 13's first virtual set with the downtown skyline was unveiled sometime during the summer of 1982 and here's an example of it from their 6pm newscast from December 22, 1982: Dave Ward, Marvin Zindler (RIP), Tim Melton (who subbed in for Bob Allen that night), Ed Brandon and Van Hackett are included in this photograph. I know ChannelTwoNews has lots of old VHS tapes being uploaded on his YouTube page with news clips, promos, briefs of Ch. 13 during the late 1970s and early 1980s. If anyone has any more info on Ch. 13's first virtual set from 1982, let me know.

Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com and other media reports confirm that after 32 years with Ch. 13 and 40 years in the business, assistant news director Don Kobos is retiring from the Houston ABC O&O station multiple sources have told McGuff. Houston TV viewers will recognize Kobos, who joined Ch. 13 in 1982 as a reporter and often reported on Live at Five or the weeknight newscasts for example. He started out as an investigative reporter and eventually covered everything from politics, education to general assignments. Following the 2001 inauguration of George W. Bush as our 43rd President o
  13. Ladies and gentlemen, Ch. 13 has a new news director. Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com reported that the Houston ABC O&O station has tapped Wendy Granato as the station's new top boss. Making her the station's first female news director in Ch. 13's history. If her name sounds familiar, her husband is longtime sports radio talker John Granato (now 1560 KGOW; formerly 610 KILT, Houston Texans sideline reporter and KNWS 51). She's an LSU alumnus. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/09/wendy-granato-ktrk-abc13-news-director.html http://www.ktrk.com/

  15. Exclusive from MikeMcGuff.com, this afternoon, KTRK Ch 13 news director Dave Strickland announced to the staff in an email he's leaving the ABC-owned station. In the memo, Strickland cited the job was affecting his family, life and personal relationships. Strickland was news director for 14 years. He started at KTRK-TV as an intern, worked his way up to sports producer, then news director. In between his KTRK time, Strickland was news director of WAVY-TV 10 Norf
  16. Folks, another one bites the dust in Houston TV news media. Eyewitness News weekend anchor Adela Uchida has left the station. Her official biography from the station was removed including her KTRK 13 facebook page being removed as well. Word on the street is that KTRK 13 is expanding their weekend evening newscast to a full hour (in order to avoid the competition from KPRC and KHOU). I think, it's about time KTRK-TV, Ch. 13 expanded their weekend evening newscasts. Uchida came to KTRK-TV in August of 2008 from WLIX-TV (Channel 10) in Lansing, Michigan where she was the
