  1. heh "A luxury condominium complex off of Allen Parkway in River Oaks boasts an unusual amenity—a community swimming pool in the shape of, well, let's just look at the photo." https://www.chron.com/culture/article/houston-river-oaks-condo-pool-19354269.php
  2. https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/houston-3d-printed-home-19368865.php Highly anticipated Houston 3D-printed home sits ominous and unfinished But this is "definitely not a financial issue," said Dr. Hikmat Zerbe, the head of structural engineering for CIVE. "Technically everything is perfect. It is purely a nontechnical issue," he says when asked why the work stopped. "It was stopped by choice and it will continue soon," he added. While Zerbe declined to give a specific timeline, he told Chron that movement on the project should restart "very soon". According to Zerbe, the privately-funded project was paused due to personal issues from the client, which he confirmed was the architectural firm HANNAH. Zerbe said that the project is gearing up for its next phase: wood framing, building interior partitions, and architectural finishes
  3. I interviewed the owners a while back. It's a Black-owned winery aiming to make wine more accessible to everyone https://houston.eater.com/2021/2/4/22264734/pur-noire-winery-houston-opening-downtown
  4. This man has been failing upward his entire life and has a string of controversies behind him, including sharing revenge porn of a subordinate while working as a CHiP. He's also very much a publicity-seeking hothead — doing shit like kneeling with protestors at Houston's George Floyd march for the 'Gram while his own staff was trampling those very same protestors with horses an hour later. I think Miami did not do their due diligence, bought into the image he presented, and decided after that fact that he was a bad fit. The Cuban Mafia thing, and other allegations brought up in Miami, don't even scratch the surface of the ways this guy has failed. They just wanted an excuse to get rid of him. That's my take https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2004-jul-09-me-chp9-story.html — revenge porn story https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Acevedo-overcame-controversy-on-way-to-top-16040737.php — catalogue of scandals including the harding street raid and a corruption while he was austin's chief
  5. address is 1818 Washington so... none of these neighborhoods lol
  6. I was hoping Houston might get a Taco Bell Cantina so I contacted their PR but the Shepherd location is just being rebuilt as a new "regular" Taco Bell. No idea on the Taylor location.
  7. Coincidental that another thread recently mentioned the Julia Ideson building, as there was (about 18 months ago) a really excellent exhibit there on Houston's Hispanic music heritage, and I believe I saw this picture. I bet you could reach out to the curators for more info and maybe get a look at some of the archived material. https://www.houstoniamag.com/arts-and-culture/2019/08/musica-hispanic-sound-houston-public-library
  8. From the Houston LGBT history project, here's the entry on Chutes. Scroll down to the very bottom to see a story from This Week in Texas, the leading local gay paper at the time, on the discovery of the body.
