  1. Someone needs to tell Capers the fish always rots from the head...
  2. I think downtown can handle 2 movie theatres. There's 2 metro stops within walking distance so I could see alot of residential traffic coming from midtown, the museum district and the medical center for dinner and a movie.
  3. Ah, yes. The Irving Cowboys [soon to be the Arlington Cowboys]..."America's Team"...
  4. Clearly Carr and Capers once again were not told today's game would involve playing the game of: FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...but what are ya gonna do? It's all we have around here-the poor saps
  5. Too bad they didn't tear down Phase II long ago when everyone indeed agreed it was a hideous structure. It would be nice to reclaim some more of the banks of the bayou. Just because something is there doesn't justify rehabilitation. Sometimes demolition is the more attractive long-term alternative. A little more green space in this city wouldn't kill any of us.
  6. I never thought the county had anything to do with it. It's all financial with Six Flags, Inc. Dump a losing property that's not worth renovating $$-wise, sell it off for land value, improve your stock value and position yourself for a buy out. NYSE symbol PKS
  7. I feel safer anywhere but the Richmond strip. Besides the thugs with their chrome-plated guns-it's just about the tackiest, trailer-trash-piece-of-crap-on-a-stick-hell hole in Houston. But that's just my opinion.
  8. My dad took me to the opening of the Astrodome in 1965. The Astros played the Yankees and Micky Mantle hit the first home run ever in the dome. I saw President Johnson there with Judge Hofheinz in his glassed-in skybox. I think the Astros actually won. I remember my dad getting pissed at me because all I wanted to do was look up at the ceiling structure-it was far more fascinating to an 11 year old than the game.
  9. I think Astroworld is their proverbial step-child.
  10. Six Flags, Inc stock has a very positive buy position. It probably is dumping Astroworld because it's more run down than worth fixing, the land is a cash cow and attendance just isn't up to their quotas. Apparently it's a drag on the company and as we all know, the stock holders come first.
  11. Does anyone have any photos and/or information on what was at the corner of Allen Parkway and Waugh Drive? I think I remember it being called the Buffalo House?
  12. Was that Blackpool Pleasure Beach? I was there a couple of years ago and thought it was OK. I'm sure were I was in your shoes, anyplace for leave would be a relief from the tough job you have. Good luck to you!
  13. Yeah, like that big, boring cultural wasteland Manhattan.
  14. I was glad to finally see news that Astroworld was being sold. It has been an eyesore for years now so good riddance is what I say. I would love to see a city park in it's place. A pool, baseball and soccer fields, a jogging track, lots of trees for picnics in the shade. What an asset that would be for the growing residential population in the area. You can build a tacky amusment park anywhere. But a first class city park-that's a rare opportunity.
  15. The "news organizatino" will have no choice but to continue to report the seemingly endless stream of bodies being recovered from buildings in NO. This is nothing like Andrew-not remotely. [bTW: what is a "news organizatino"?
  16. EDI???/ Oh gawd! I don't expect Rem Koolhaus or Renzo Piano but EDI??? Could we get more mediocre?
  17. Ah, but you see, it is there never the less. Diversion. If only for a few hours a day. Take your kids to the Zoo-for free. Take your family to a museum-for free. There's a train at your doorstep that goes to all these places and more. Getting the people out of the "camps" on a regular basis is good psychology. It's far better than having 25,000 pissed off people in a "camp" with cabin fever. They are our guests and we are not their wardens. Let's try to treat them as we would like to be treated.
  18. No problem, Red...I seem to remember all the money was raised by some local Houston socialites who couldn't bear to have to share a stadium with those common Cougars
