  1. The building looks to be 1930's in design, any idea what gas station it was originally? Texco, Conoco, Gulf?
  2. I think you may be talking about Merchant Parks Lanes.
  3. I've spoke to some old school Heights residence that say that there was a Starlite ballroom on North Shepard Dr. in the Merchants Park Center.
  4. That's where it was at on Texas Avenue, thanks hindesky.
  5. Who remembers the location of the old Greyhound downtown pre-Trailways merger? I think it was on Fannin somewhere.
  6. What year was this in? I know that property was owned by Northshore ISD.
  7. I came across some information about the original Brock Elementary School in the First Ward. It is said that the school originally sat where Brock Park sits at now in between Bingham St. and Colorado St. It was Originally named Booker T. Washington Elementary before being moved to the site of the old Hawthorne Elementary school on the corner of Houston Avenue and Bingham (1418 Houston Ave.). Does anyone have any more information or pictures of the old Brock/Booker T. Washington Elementary School? Many thanks in advance.
  8. Where was this Globe store in the picture located?
  9. That building looks like the one on Harrisburg in Eastwood next to the Park. If this is the same building it is still there and I want to say it was built in the 1920's. https://www.google.com/maps/@29.7423592,-95.3240863,3a,41.5y,193.15h,97.81t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s_sPnptMmse7QbShJGOhQFw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192
  10. He must have been more than a title title abstractor for him to get a whole park named after him. I'm wondering now, maybe he contributed to his community some how or something.
  11. Who was Alvin S. Moody and why was he important? When I look online all it says is that he was a Democratic Politician from the 1920's and nothing more. He must have been of significant importance if he had a Park named after him. I would like to know a little more about him than just that. If you could please share some information on him. Thank you.
  12. Does anyone remember the address of the original Tommy Vaughn on N. Main in the early 50's?
  13. There use to be an old corner store on the corner of 16th St. and Rutland. it was there in the 60's for srue up until the early to mid 80's. Does anyone remember the name of it? https://www.google.com/maps/@29.7997751,-95.4013851,3a,41y,219.03h,100.21t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s9jE2WKv4b7KfPEj_G9FTxg!2e0!5s20071101T000000!7i3328!8i1664
  14. I found an old 1927 copy of the Houston Electric Company streetcar map. It shows streetcar route number 4 as the Studewood. It shows it going past 27th Street then truing back around on what looks like 29th or 30th Street. I'm guessing if you were going to Independence Heights or Acres Homes in those times that was the only route..
  15. Was there a gang out there during that time named "Blue Devils" or Blue Devilz"? Where there any kind of Cholo type gangs?
  16. It was because of the 8 Ball Posse Gang in that area. Other gangs in that area around that time were known as follows: * Puro Heights * Sunset Heights * 6 1/2 Street * Bad Company Posse (BCP) * The Eight Ball Posse * Woodland Heights Just to name a few.
  17. Check this out: 7th Ward East Side Houston Texas ? ? - YouTube I've reached out to some people out in the streets but haven't gotten an answer about the 8th Ward. More than likely it was made up just like the 7th Ward was.

  19. Found this gem in the Houston Public Library Archives but still no Orlando's.
  20. I'm so sick of cookie cutter town homes. I wish it would stop already. Just out of curiosity, when did Luck 7 go out of business? I can't find anything online about them.
  21. I love the Google time line too bad it only goes back to 2007. Man Taft has changed a lot since I've visited it, use to go have pizza at the Midnight Pie.
