Not that I'm necessarily a fan of necroposting but I was actually considering trying to interview Ms. Arnold for a project I was working on regarding media in the Houston area over the ages. I was surprised to see that she is one of the few people from the industry who has actually chosen to get back into it after finding their niche in consulting and independent work.

Currently, she is the evening news anchor at the ABC station in Dothan, AL.

Pretty good bio including bits about her time in Houston and a mention of her musical pursuits.

    She's doing quite well.

As long as Texas politicians can make money off of having an adversarial relationship with creative industries in general, and Hollywood in particular, that's going to remain a wish, rather than a reality.

Look at how New Mexico has cultivated a productive relationship with studios, and now has a massive film and television industry, while still remaining a largely conservative state.  It totally ate Vancouver's lunch.  But its leaders seem more interested in serving their own state, rather than saying shocking things to get national media attention, and the campaign dollars that follow.

I do recall that "21 Jump Street" was filmed live on location in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for 5 Seasons (1987-1991) & if memory serves me right, I think the show aired on Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston back in the day 🤔

The first eight episodes of the series "Mo" have been released. The comedy/drama was created by and stars Houston comic Mo Amer. a Palestine refugee, and was filmed in and around Houston.
It has received a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Set aside a few hours to binge; I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the writing and how Houston is incorporated seamlessly into the storyline. I hope it's picked up for future seasons.

Netflix has a habit of canceling shows non-stop (see "House of Cards").

Some time before stepping down at 13, Ward signed off one night as David Ward, explaining it was his real name and he was tired of not being able to use it, or something like that. It made the news the next day (Chron) but didn't last long as his employer made him return to using Dave until his (already announced I think) retirement.

Makes sense from the company's point of view, of course, as they had spent years and years and who knows how much in promotional efforts promoting their lead anchor as 'Dave Ward,' not David.

So maybe he's the one who suggested or even demanded that he be referred to as David.

Sounds like we'll find out more juicy secrets at ABC 13 down the road.

Lathan might still get the job, I just don't support her for that role. Fortunately, my kid graduates in May, so I don't have to worry about him being a victim of bad decisions after that.

The HISD Board is often seen as a stepping stone to bigger and better political positions, so people do stupid stuff to make a name for themselves. Unfortunately, it's the kids who suffer. It' snot helped by the Legislature not funding schools properly.

Speaking of using the HISD School Board of Trustees as a stepping stone: Jolanda Jones did just that & was recently elected to the seat held by Garnet Coleman in TX House of Representatives District 147 in a special election.

OK, because of the above, I'm finally convinced these are a good thing. Hopefully they'll be maintained.

I just wish the slides would change at a slower rate.  There isn't time to read the ad/PSA before the next one comes along.  We don't all have the attention span of a cracked-out squirrel.

When were these things built ? Under the White or Parker administrations ?

Well, I’m not denying that it’s his race to lose, but here’s a thought … why not compare his margin of victory in November 2022 when all is said and done with the margins of victory for every gubernatorial race since Bush, and I think you’ll be unable to deny that your opinion does not jibe with the majority of the State.

And why is that? Because he has gotten needlessly radical on ridiculous culture war issues, thus alienating a not insignificant portion of conservative voters, who look around and now think the Republican Party is the party of total whack-jobs, and with each passing day, noticing more and more how corrupt the party has become. I was admittedly very early to this party, and it hasn’t been easy, but common sense has the best chance it has had in the past decade because the Republicans have really risked overplaying their hand. Sure the voters of Shelby County, Texas are singing hallelujah over the absurd idea that abortion is just going to go poof and we’ll all be closer to God as a result, but I wouldn’t be bragging about Abbott being the best governor in the history of the state when he presided over completely alienating and losing the big cities where all the economic production is, the hopelessly conservative Ft Worth being the last domino to fall. And you may want to be ruled by Shelby County superstitions and values, but let me assure you the state has been slowly waking up and realizing that that is a path backwards. If you want to live in some 1950s fantasy of America, just do us all a favor and move to Shelby County, where most people will agree with your take and you can sip iced tea with your neighbors and all fantasize about the FBI framing Trump, a transparently obvious career criminal, while ruing the fact that you heard on Facebook there is 1 transgender athlete in Ohio and thinking therefore the rapture is coming. (I know the type.) Abbott could win by a 20-point margin if he followed Perry’s and Bush’s lead and avoided this nonsense. This simple fact seems to elude most cheerleaders. In short, sir, your claim does not hold up and is, in fact, rather ridiculous on its face. But keep on drinking the Kool Aid, friend. It’s certainly much easier when things are so black-and-white, which they definitely appear to be for you.

If the very, very weak Hidalgo manages to eke out a win, it is finally game over for Republicans in Harris County as it will be confirmation that people are now voting Democrat by default, much like the prior generation voted Republican by default—in other words the county is solidly blue and, guess what, the sky didn’t fall and we aren’t all communists and socialists and child predators and pro-crime. And Greg Abbott can take full credit for that.

Hmmm, on that note, maybe I agree with your take after all …

Hidalgo will NOT win on November 8th. Majority of law enforcement agencies are backing Mealer & the Harris County GOP is energized to vote out Hidalgo & Garcia as well as the other liberal district judges.

Just in case y'all had been living under rocks or on vacation, Rose-Ann Aragon left her reporter post with NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston after five years with the station. Her final day on the air was on Saturday, August 27th in the 6:00 PM & 10:00 PM Newscasts.

Aragon will be working in a dream communications position at one of the Top 5 tech companies in the world focusing on innovation, tech & research. She'll be staying in Houston of course.

In another thread I mentioned an old 80's short-lived NBC soap called "Texas" set in Houston. I did a search for the show and found a site where you can watch the opening and closing sequences from the show. There are shots of downtown, San Jacinto monument, etc.

The 1981 theme is entirely different from 1982 and is very "Dallas"-esque. The 1982 theme is longer and has more shots of Houston including one of a TV station that I didn't recognize and couldn't make out the name. Could have been a fictitious one for the show.

Both are equally kind of cheesy, but fun! The quality's not all that great, but here it is anyway:

Click under where it says "Videos":

    "Texas" link

I've only watched the two opening sequences.

Oh, and for some reason that voice-over at the end of both videos just cracks me up.

They need to film TV shows or soap operas on location in TX particularly Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin.

Probably.  I've seen them for sale on Amazon, just for this purpose.

The problem is that I'd also have to run the wire through the living room, the kitchen, the dining room, and down a hallway to the library.

I ended up using some old speaker wire to build a big square and X on the back of an adjacent bookcase.  I think that's about all I can do and still keep it hidden from my wife.

I hope your wife doesn't find out.

The show you're recalling was "Steve Smith's Sunday Morning" and I think it was on around 9:30 AM. I think it survived a few years into the 1990s. Had a very memorable (to me) theme.

That sounds like the general format as well. Occasionally he'd have an interview that would be teased during a newscast in the week prior as part of continuing story.

Ray Miller actually worked for KHOU during the mid 80s into the early 90s and had a regular segment called "Ray Miller's Texas" that were similar to segments seen on The Eyes of Texas, but those were just weekly segments that ran during the news, and likely during this show as well. It sounds familiar anyway. He may have also done an occasional special, but not a weekly series like The Eyes of Texas.

It'll be intriguing to see who'll be leaving CBS 11 KHOU-TV Houston next 🤔

Since this post, they've tweaked the show some. In 2021, they trimmed the first half-hour and the last. It begins at 5:30 AM now and ends at 9:30. Maggie Flecknoe's Houston Happens segment is now a 30-minute show and occupies the 9:30 AM - 10 AM spot. It's a mix of local guests along with sponsored segments, which is par for the course these days, IMO - especially with the stations under the ownership of their parent company, Nexstar (IMO).

They need to expand Maggie's show to a full HR.

  13. TX Governor Greg Abbott (R) putting Hidalgo & the Dem-majority of Harris County Commissioners Court on full-blast for defunding law enforcement agencies, etc.,

Triggered? I would be mad too if an incompetent buffoon like Mealer tried to make crime my fault. Mealer probably supports the Cagle/Ramsey "shut down all county departments except the criminal justice system" plan. Mealer is probably mad too because Hidalgo has actually tried to help poor people , rather than follow the historic County bias towards rich White folks.

Considering the TX GOP & Co., see Hidalgo as Target #1 in their mission to end her political career. I also anticipate Fort Bend County Judge KP George (D) will lose reelection as well.
