  1. WOW ! I bet the community is either pissed off or finding another strategy on what's next.
  2. Iron Tiger, Houston ISD has been given the go-ahead to demolish Wheatley High yesterday by a State District Judge, who ruled in the district's favor.
  3. For the last three months, the old Wheatley High School has remained standing with a large hole in its side. Crews hired by the Houston Independent School District had started to tear down the Fifth Ward building to make way for a facility, but two lawsuits seeking to preserve the 1929 structure have put the demolition on hold. On Monday, the latest case is scheduled to proceed in a Harris County courtroom. HISD officials plan to ask state District Judge Dan Hinde to dismiss the lawsuit filed by three alumni who live or used to live in the neighborhood. The parties failed to reach an agreement during a private meeting that lasted several hours @ HISD headquarters this week. Reaction on the ongoing contentious battle over Wheatley High ?
  4. Next, they'll have Quanell X going off like an idiot attacking HISD.
  5. Abbott also won Tarrant County (Davis' home turf) and my home county of Bexar. Totaling that Abbott won 235 out of 254 counties. He performed bigger than Perry did 4 years ago: 2010: Perry won 55%-42% over White *He carried 226 out of 254 counties *Lost Bexar, Dallas, Harris, Travis counties * Won 69% of Anglos, 11% of African Americans & 38% of Latinos Last night, Abbott won 59%-38% over Davis * Carried 235 out of 254, as I mentioned earlier * Won Harris, Tarrant and Bexar counties * Won 73% of Anglos, 7% of African Americans & 44% of Latinos
  6. Abbott did win Harris County last night. Republicans won governorships in Maryland, Illinois, Arkansas. Colorado, Connecticut and Alaska too close to call. In Alaska, incumbent Governor Sean Parnell ® trailing in election results.
  7. Jacquie Baly on Fox 26, said she thinks Abbott wins Harris County.
  8. They're desperately trying to maintain the status quo and don't realize everything in Houston (and Texas in particular) is changing around them.
  9. Any reaction from those about HISD's plans on getting rid of Wheatley High School despite protests from the community ?
  10. McGuff blog and other media reports confirming KPRC-TV weather weekday morning anchor Anthony Yanez is leaving the Houston NBC station to become the 12pm and 5pm meteorologist at KNBC-TV NBC 4 Los Angeles, CA. "It's bittersweet, all of my kids were born in Houston," Yanez told mikemcguff.com. "But you get this opportunity and grab it." Longtime Houston TV watchers will remember that former KPRC-TV weekend anchor Daniella Guzmsn is the morning anchor at KNBC. In fact, Yanez told McGuff, Guzman was the anchor he auditioned for the NBC O&O station. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/10/kprc-2s-anthony-yanez-heading-to-knbc-la-html?m=1 http://www.click2houston.com/ http://www.knbc.com/ Reaction from anyone on Yanez's departure from KPRC-TV ?
  11. For anyone, who has watched Ch. 13's news reports over the years, here's one of their news reports about the 711 Woodway Square Apartment Fire in their 6pm newscast on July 31, 1979: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFyFWK1EOsU
  12. Whatever happened to former Houston City Councilman John Goodner (Rep) ?
  13. Incidents will these will cause people like Dan Patrick (running for Texas Lieutenant Governor) to call for "Law & Order" in being tough on crime.
  14. Didn't know Clowney started doing commercials already.
  15. Chris Bell was a two-time loser: couldn't win the Mayor's race in 2001 (failed to make the runoff), lost his reelection bid for the U.S. House-TX 25th (got redistricted out too), etc.,
  16. Perry won Harris County in 2002 and 2006.
  17. With the likelihood of Texas State AG Greg Abbott ® getting elected as the 48th Governor of Texas on November 4th, questions arise whether Abbott will cut into Democratic territory such as Harris County (which Bill White barely carried in 2010 in the previous gubernatorial election). Will Abbott carry Harris County against Davis in November ? A. Yes B. No
  18. Lockmat, former KBTX-TV CBS 3 College Station weather anchor Bob French filed a lawsuit against the station for age discrimination and other problems. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/
  19. Lockmat, remember what date this newscast was back in 1984 for KTRK Ch. 13 ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAHqGem2X2c
  20. ESPN's too busy drooling over LeBron James and the Miami Heat again!
  21. Ch. 13, KTRK-TV Houston, Number 1 in Texas (1986)

  22. Katie McCall now working for KRIV-TV Fox 26.
  23. Ladies and gentlemen, it appears that Daniella Guzman is moving up the ladder non-stop. It's only been a little more than 2 years and former KPRC-TV NBC 2 weekend anchor Daniella Guzman is going to higher places. In 2012, Guzman left Houston for the morning anchor chair at NBC's WMAQ-TV Chicago. On Wednesday, Business Wire reported Guzman was heading to Los Angeles and NBC owned sister station KNBC. Obviously, the KPRC weekend chair is a good launching pad. As Mike McGuff of McGuff Blog reported months earlier, KPRC 2 weekend anchor Irika Sargent is about to move to CBS Miami. After this KPRC viral video trending this week, weekend anchor Phillip Mena might be on his way to the network. Who knows ? Guzman joins NBC 4 Southern California after a successful career at NBC 5 Chicago where she served as anchor for the weekday newscast in 2012. For two years, she covered a fast-moving blend of the latest breaking news stories and issues important to local residents. Prior to NBC 5 Chicago, Guzman was a weekend anchor and general assignments reporter at KPRC-TV in Houston. There, she covered hurricanes Daily and Gustav and was one of the first reporters on the scene during the 2009 Fort Hood shooting rampage. From 2004-2006, she worked at Telemundo station KTMD in Houston, and was at the Univision network in Miami earlier in her career. http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2014/04/daniella-guzman-knbc-nbc4-wmaq-kprc.html Any reaction to Guzman's new job in Los Angeles ?
