  1. Howdy from the Alamo City HAIF Family. Here's a mega-discussion thread that I've decided to start on the happenings & on-goings at NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston & we start off with NBC 2 KPRC-TV Houston reporter Taisha Walker announcing on Social Media today that she's leaving the NBC Station after 5 years.

Here's a video segment of Walker when she was on "Houston Life":

  2. BREAKING: JONATHAN MARTIN LEAVING FOX 26 KRIV-TV HOUSTON AT THE END OF THIS MONTH.

Big question is who's going to replace Martin ? Will they stick with Rashi Vats & Caroline Collins being the co-anchors for the 5:00 PM & 9:00 PM newscasts or will they go outside the box & hire someone else to fill Martin's job ?

I always thought she was pretty good as an anchor.

Fostering definitely will take it out of you though. One of my wife's cousins is a teacher and is fostering two boys under 10. Based on their histories and what we've heard on occasion - I couldn't imagine doing it myself as he is. Of course not all cases are the same. I wish her the best because that foster can make a truly remarkable impact on the life of a child who is in need.

As an aside - does there really need to be a separate thread for any time someone comes or goes? I mean, there's an existing thread about when she joined the station in the previous decade. Wouldn't it make sense to keep a thread for a personality (if someone wanted to) or just maybe have station specific threads? Might ease up the clutter a bit.

I recently began a Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston Discussion Megathread several months ago. I think there might need to be a Discussion Mega-thread on who comes or leaves Houston TV News Stations: CBS 11, NBC 2, CW 39, ABC 13, Fox 26, etc.,

Hard to say what the ramifications are, but if history is any guide, it won't be good.

I worked for the first of the modern-day giant soul-eating national radio companies when it was just starting to devour the airwaves, and I could see the writing on the wall then.  Centralizing and cost-cutting gutted terrestrial radio.  One important lesson I learned, that is still true today, was that the farther away the signal is from corporate headquarters, the lower the quality of the local content.  If there is any.

There were three things that came together at around the same time to make terrestrial radio awful:

    1. The raising of ownership caps, including LMAs and JSAs.
    2. Communications companies becoming beholden to Wall Street, starting with Capital Cities buying ABC.
    3. Cheap computers and the ability to control them remotely.

I'm not even sure which Houston radio stations are still locally-owned.

I guess you could argue that KUHF is still locally owned, but the vast majority of its programming is from other cities.  Its classical subchannel is from Saint Paul.  Its alternative subchannel is from Philadelphia.  Its main channel has just one hour of local content each weekday.  Sad.

You're betting this will NOT end well ?

  5. Mike McGuff of mikemcguff.com reported that Urban One announced they're signing a definitive asset purchasing agreement with Cox Media Group in purchasing its Houston radio cluster. Under the agreement, Urban One will acquire the following radio stations: 93Q Country KKBQ-FM, classic rock station The Eagle 106.9 & 107.5 KHPT-FM & KGLK-FM including Country Legends 97.1 KTHT-FM.

Surprised this hasn’t been brought up… seems he thinks SJL is the front runner and not Whitmire!

    From The Chronicle

Tony Buzbee, the millionaire businessman and trial attorney who unsuccessfully challenged Mayor Sylvester Turner in 2019, is considering another run for City Hall's top job.

Buzbee on Wednesday said supporters are urging him to run again, and he believes he is the only candidate who can defeat U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who told church parishioners last week that she would run. He emphasized, though, that he has not made a decision yet.

Does Buzbee have any credible polling information to back that up ?

In other news: Hollins is running for Houston City Controller; he's NOT going to win that contest.

Sheila Jackson Lee is running for mayor - just announced as breaking news on Channel 13

    Click2Houston has a story also:  https://www.click2houston.com/news/texas/2023/03/27/us-rep-sheila-jackson-lee-is-running-for-houston-mayor/

Whitmire is still likely winning the Mayoral election this fall.

Strange race shaping up with the two frontrunners basically using the job as a retirement plan.  Whitmire and Jackson Lee are both 73.  They would be 80 by the end of a second term.

Whitmire is clearly the establishment/centrist candidate and will get piles of cash from the developers and energy execs.  SJL has a very dedicated constituency but is hugely polarizing outside of her district.  I guess she would position herself as the more progressive candidate that stands with the parts of town that don't see all the development.

I would not count out Amanda Edwards.  She could be the more progressive candidate and get the Lina Hidalgo voters.

I doubt Amanda Edwards will stay in the Mayoral race due to her mother's passing, etc.,

Fox Weather is available OTA on 26's .3 subchannel around the clock now.

For a while after they had launched it, they also ran it on KTXH weekday mornings at about 9 or 10, well into last year. I think this was during the timeslot Stephen Morgan is one of the meteorologists on duty. Based on the schedules I see today, they aren't running that hour anymore on 20.

    Channel 20 is part of Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston correct ? 🤔

  9. Howdy from the Alamo City HAIF Family. Unless y'all have been living under rocks for the past few years, the TX Education Agency made it official yesterday when TX Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath confirmed that the TEA will be moving full-steam ahead taking over the Houston Independent School District & with the takeover, this means Houston ISD Superintendent Dr. Millard House, III & the current elected members of the Houston Independent School Board of Trustees will be replaced altogether effective June 1st, 2023.

Reaction from TX Governor Greg Abbott (R), who was in Dallas yesterday when he was asked about the TX Education Agency taking over Houston ISD:

Houston Mayor Sylvester "Sticky Fingers" Turner (D)'s reaction of the takeover. Funny thing is that back in 2015, Turner was one of those who voted FOR the legislation which opened the door to all of this:

Man houston and Harris co were run by a gang of losers, cagle, Ramsey, the last guy Lena beat. And all they did was make themselves rich and give us horrible infrastructure and increase flooding. I’m so glad their power is being limited and they’re losing elections. I am against  whitimire and his corrupt cronies and billionaire benefactors. They’re a bunch of stale boomer farts and we need to air out the room. They kept houston and Harris co in the past and I can’t wait for them all to be shown the door.

Whitmire is likely going to be the next Mayor in all likelihood!

  11. More endorsements for State Senator John Whitmire (D-Houston) for Houston Mayor.

North Forest doesn't exist any longer. All of the kids are in HISD now. There was an agenda item in 2018 regarding settling the lawsuits in Federal court brought by former North Forest employees. What other issues were you wondering about?

Just found out the TX Education Agency taking over Houston ISD beginning next week according to Fox 26 KRIV-TV Houston & Houston Chronicle.

Sounds like the beginning of the end for HISD Superintendent Milton House & the elected members of the HISD School Board of Trustees.

Calm down...I was just pointing out that there a lot of lifers in politics.  Probably the vast majority, if you look at it closely, on both sides.  Plus some wannabe's.

It'll be a very intriguing 2023 Mayoral campaign including campaigns for Houston City Controller & City Council.

We dropped a level back to Beta+. We were Alpha- for a couple of years 😔 Philadelphia and Seattle surprised me as Beta cities. Boston jumped from Beta+ to Alpha-.

What could be the causes of this? Are Austin and Dallas having a greater impact on the entire state and more? Will the new transit lines help us jump even higher?
