Mr Nice Pie inside Finn Hall closes "Finn Hall has lost its first food vendor. Mr. Nice Pie, the downtown food hall's pizza restaurant, has closed. A spin-off of Montrose's Love Buzz pizzeria, Mr. Nice Pie served oversized pizza slices and whole pies. The owners of Mr. Nice Pie have yet to respond to CultureMap's request for comment about why the restaurant closed or what's next; we will update this article if they do. I stopped by here last weekend and as the previous two posts indicated, it seems they just rushed to open. I have no idea what they are going for with this place, the sign looks like it was created using Microsoft Paint, and doubt it stays open that long.

From the Hines article: https://www.hines.com/news/mendocino-farms-sandwich-market-slated-to-open-at-609-main-at-texas "Located on the corner of Main and Texas streets, the concept will serve its popular menu of responsibly raised meats atop salads and in sandwiches, including vegan and gluten-free options, along with a variety of craft beverages. Mendocino Farms is slated to open in the Fall of 2019 and will be its third location in the Houston market, following Rice Village and Uptown Park which are slated to open Summer of 2019. "

Yea downtown is amazing right now. Took a date to the Nutcracker on Friday and there were tons of people walking around the theater district and then we ventured over to a few bars on Main street and it was packed as well. Downtown is definitely moving in the right direction. Exciting times.

I rode by this in an uber yesterday and fire trucks were everywhere. I had a clear view of the building but didn't see any smoke or anything.- 1,569 replies

I've been twice in the past week and went to Craft Burger and Sit Lo. The prices are a little higher as mentioned before but I love this place! I'll definitely be going back often. Excellent addition to downtown in a great location.

I was all about tearing down the pierce elevated.... until I just now saw the renderings of it in that presentation with the shops underneath. Wow. If we can pull this off this would definitely be unique for our city!- 3,337 replies

I think its a great location. The convention center area is a very vibrant area now with lots going on.

A vote on the W hotel will be held today. "Houston First is expected to vote today on deal that could bring a W hotel to downtown Houston. The hotel would be built atop the Partnership Tower, Houston First's new 10-story office building next to the George R. Brown Convention Center. At its board meeting Thursday afternoon, Houston First will consider a preliminary agreement with developer Texas Hospitality Partners to build the hotel. The city's convention arm solicited proposals in 2014 from developers who could build the hotel, which was in the original plan for Partnership Tower. The structure at 701 Avenida de las Americas was designed to support the hotel." https://www.chron.com/business/real-estate/article/W-Hotel-deal-proposed-for-downtown-Houston-goes-13159444.php

I'm going on my 3rd year at 500 and love it. It can definitely get crowded during Astros home games, especially during the playoffs/world series, but getting to the parking garage on La Branch isn't bad at all. Its fun walking around to the nearby bars and restaurants on gamedays then just walking (or crawling) back home.
