I thought tech was crashing. Facebook and it's parent company Meta, among other tech stocks, have been imploding over the past year, they've lost like 75% of their market cap. Microsoft, Peleton, and Amazon have all seen huge losses. They're calling this the "Dot Com Bust 2.0."
-
Sounds like they're overbuilding.

The tallest building in Texas/this side of the Mississippi belongs in HOUSTON dammit. 😡

A little off topic, and I couldn't find a thread for this but, does anyone know whats going on at the lot that used to hold a Goodyear tire shop, next to Fiesta, on the block just south of the Ventana apartments? I only got a quick glance driving by but it looked like a huge pit was being excavated, maybe for a building foundation?? Edit: Nevermind, looks like this will be the parking garage

Too good to be true. I'd obviously love for it to sprout, but not getting my hopes up, Houston developers have burned me too many times.- 630 replies

Well that's good.

It's too bad the park didn't take up the entire block. It's such a Houston thing for a tiny park in Downtown have a big parking lot attached to it. I wonder if the DRA tried to acquire that parcel but couldn't, or if they intentionally left it there because of Houston's ridiculous minimum parking requirements.

Let's get this thread back on topic, if you want to argue about Tranquility Park is, do it in a different thread.

That's a terrible idea. 🙄

Amazing how this building will go up so close to Midtown's blossoming skyline. It will definitely add to the density and hopefully inspire more copycats in the area.

Get your panties out of a bunch, Francis. No, I'm not suggesting getting rid of the park, although it's only used as a gigantic homeless urinal and nobody would miss it anyway.... I'm saying visually and aesthetically, having a skyscraper in that position would be beautiful, it's a perfect spot for one. If it offends your delicate senses that much, pretend there was no "park" there and then imagine what having a beautiful skyscraper there would add to the skyline.
-
Anyone else think Tranquility Park would make a prime spot for a brand new, modern skyscraper? Something stunning and bold, like Piano's "The Shard", that would give Houstons "front door" skyline a facelift. Its actually a superblock, so you could fit more than one high rise there, but one signature skyscraper there would be awesome.

The Travis: Multifamily High-Rise At 3300 Main St.
Howard Huge replied to Urbannizer's topic in Midtown
And then one day, Midtown suddenly had it's own little baby skyline. Small beginnings. Tear down the Pierce elevated, throw in about twenty to thirty more buildings in Midtown between 20-40 stories stretching all the way down to the Museum district, and Houston will have one giant, continuous skyline. One that rivals the big cities! I say give Houston about 50 more years, it is bound to happen one day. I may not live to see it but it will happen. Isnt Caydon (the Aussie company?) building 3 more high rises next to the first one?- 604 replies

Im not sure because I haven't been downtown in a while, but I heard my buddy is going downtown in the 500 ton with luffer this weekend to tear down a Bellows tower crane. Does anyone know where this might be? Don't know if I'll be there on the job or not, but if I go I'll take some pictures or ask him to take a few.
