  1. Thanks for running the contest ... It was fun ...
  2. Haven't noticed your thread till now, nice photos. Wife and I went to NO last week. Echo many of the same things you said. Happen to take the same vampire tour with Johnathon, very fun. French Quarters was fantastic and the Garden District. Can't say enough wonderful things about the city. Love the trip to NO, can't wait to go back. Visiting NO truly help me realize and put in perspective many things about Houston. Especially how young Houston is and how fast we have grown. I may be way off here but from my eyes it seemed like NO lacks average middle-class neighborhoods though. You were either from money and lived in the beautiful historic neighborhoods or your neighborhood is dirt poor... By the way NO did tear up all its trolley lines except the one they have running now.... Wish I was better expressing myself on paper because I truly thought NO was a wonderful place, from the people to the history...
  3. If Parker wins, we can count out any continued develop to the city core. No money for museums, no support for metro rail, no support for the dynamo stadium. etc...
  4. You don't have a clue, pal! I know of plenty of people in that age group that absolutely love it here. There are also plenty of people who appreciate this city. I am one of them. I think you are gathering info from individuals who have moved here and straight to the burbs. Individuals who do not explore and embrace the great things of this city. As far as Austin... it is place where people try to hard to be "cool" or "wierd". It is a city of posers. Austin had wanna-be hippies and UT. The only plus it has is the surrounding hills. As far as the article... What sprawling city can you see a professional football, basketball, baseball, soccer and minor league hockey game. A year round professional symphony, theater, opera. Five universities (two have division 1 sports), Perhaps the best health-care in terms of quality in the world. Up-scale boutiques of hedwig village, rice village to antiques and "Austin type stuff" of lower westheimer. Two 18-hole golf courses, zoo, Herman Park, Memorial Park, Discovery Green. A dozen museums. All within 30 or so square miles connected by a rail line.and busses. This city has its faults but it is great! Who cares what the "cool" austin posers think or the ignorant surbanites.
  5. Where else could you have an accused rapist while he was married and a man with HIV because he cheated on his wife 1000+ times? Also a reverend that has 10+ illegitimate children celebrate a man who abused drugs and was an accused child molester.... I know the key word was accused, not convicted but is it a coincidence how a circle of people find a way to be connected? Similar to politics....
  6. Sure there is better ... But my favorite is Frank's DT.... Maybe it just taste better after drinking all night....
  7. When it is 100 + outside people, including myself, don't won't to walk outside and come back to work smelling like that lady in the picture..... The people eating in the tunnels are walking the same 1000'/distance if they were on street level
  8. Take mass transit and bike as much as possible... Plenty of neighborhoods can be accessed/traveled this way. A lot more then people think, including many areas outside the loop as far west as the Energy Corridor. For walking and biking, I wish sidewalks were wider though. Especially around some of the new developments in Midtown, 4rth Ward area.... I have always thought when a building is built. For all that block, the builder should bury the power lines and make the sidewalks wider all the way to the curb This should be some sort of law...
  9. Little Update.... Went to HP today .... Guadalajara del Centro for lunch was good... Place was very busy, 20 min wait though..... Forever XXI was full of shoppers as well as BAM. BCBGMAXAZRIA had a couple shoppers as well... Saw people with bags from all three places... Clique Salon had customers but the Unity bank was completely empty. Work was being done inside Yaos and Petes as well as two or three other places.... I wish several other clothing retail shops would open though. Been to HP several times but today was the best experience.. Plenty of happy people, and over-heard several positive comments from visitors talking to one another... I thought it was great to see so many people with shopping bags around HPs several blocks, including Macy's and the Tipping Points block, even with this extreme heat for June... To whom thinks this place is "depressing, cold, and lonely", they must mean this fits their personality. HP is far from perfect but it definitely doesn't fit that description.
  10. Whaahhh, The sky is falling. This project didn't break ground the exact day that was announced. Its dead just like I predicted. whhaaahhh...
  11. Thanks for calling... I sent an e-mail voicing my opinion. At the end of my e-mail, I let him know that I would be supporting whom ever is running against him no matter what position he is running for. I hope Joe Pickett political career is over. He basically took a bribe from some rich pain-in-the -***. He tried to sneak this nonsense into an existing bill....
  12. Isn't street parking free on the weekend? If we want more retail and better retail DT, we need not to delicate flower but to support what is there so more will come. When you need a shirt go to Macy's or if you need a book go to BAM. If you need cheap shoes, go to the payless.... If you have time hit main street for lunch occasionally, there is several decent places. However I still think DT still has a so much competition. Its going to be a problem. You have the village, highland village, lower westheimer, river oaks shopping center, etc... all so close to DT. All good shopping areas.... I wonder if other successful DT's like Denver or Seattle have the same compettion of having surrounding neighborhoods with shopping....
  13. Having chron.com comments agreeing with you is something to be proud of... I went ahead and sent an e-mail to Mr. Pickett. I want to know how much culberson and his highway buddies are paying him. E-Mail Pickett Why wouldn't a bill include highway expansion? It takes property away as well....
  14. Thanks for the help!!! Went to chase tower today and the old gulf building.. Very Cool!!!
  15. I didn't want to start a new topic ... so I'll ask here because pf the picture in post #838. Which building(s) have an observation floor open to the public and which block would it be at)? Thanks, I have been DT thousands of times but never to an observation floor. Also, I have seen pictures of the interior of a gorgeous bank. Which building is that? Thanks ...... Main Place is looking great!
  16. I think metro need to hire you, right away. Your once a month rant about metro shows that you are so far advanced then they are in the ability to engineer a line that would fit with-in the given budget. I wish we could get the billions that DART has so we can build 40 miles of rail so it can get 60,000 boarding a day while our little 7.5 mile "toy-train" gets over 40,00 boardings a day. Dallas mockingbird station is "cool" and so "urban". I wish we could be just like them. Our park n ride service just sucks.... It takes 300,000 people from the burbs a day to the galleria, greenway plaza, and DT. We should cancel this service so we can build cool stations that are underground for our rail.... Let just build 10's billions of dollars of subway so we can look more urban and be just like NY!!! Our rail lines are probably going to be as efficient as our allotted money will allow. They will work well with the park n' ride service. Seriously, go apply for metro. You can help us be "cool" just like Dallas and Atlanta. Oh yeah, Charlotte is cooler now...
  17. If this breaks ground and gets built, I am just suprised that a "Dallas" team is actually going to have a stadium and play in the city of Dallas ........ See football, baseball, and soccer .......
  18. don't even try here. Dallas is so much cooler and hip. So many more urban areas ... Feels just like NYC in some places. It has great art scene. Houston art scene and coolness only rivals Brownsville.... Try a little harder ....

Do you live with a bunch of cats?
  20. no way, your not happy with the choices? You can get medicine? Voted for: University of Southeast Texas
  21. Last thing i heard from this board and the chron. is that it has financing despite the tough financial climate and it will break ground in March.
  22. I don't think so... Maybe inside the west side of Houston inside the beltway (some parts). Travel outside the loop north, east, and south. Looks anything but inner city.
  23. Clear Lake is an exception. It is a fantastic area. People are very down to earth and have a great vibe. Your a min. from water and only 20 minutes from DT. Plenty of fun things to do. Some parts you can even walk up to walgreens or the neighborhood bar. All those small villages/towns are cool. Clear Lake gets a thumbs up. The only con I can see is the traffic and stuck up mini van feel at Bay Area and 45. It gets very Katy/Pearland/Cypess in that area.
  24. The city feel dies closer to chimney rock and westheimer. After that it is 100% strip centers and small office buildings with few exception like Memorial City. It looks and has the feel just like Mason road and just like the west oaks area. The Heights is even a suburb of the city core. Just because an address has "Houston" in it doesn't mean it is a business urban center. Doesn't most of West Oaks have a Houston address? I understand the importance of annexation and its purpose of keeping revenue during "white flight" but I wish the city could unannex areas outside the inner core and let these areas become there own municipalities.
