  1. Hopefully. I look over in Austin and see some really nice "common" architecture going on and wonder why can't Houston have the same.
  2. Just because its happened before or will continue to happen, doesn't keep it from being a negative for those that lived there first.

  4. Who says we're complacent? Just the opposite. We tear down our history with no abandon. I love that Houston is an incubator for creativity. Granted that we get some ugly ass stuff, but we get some great stuff too. I like the recent trend of "modern" style over the throw back fake historical look. Houston has always been a forward looking city. Wish the common architecture embraced it not just the big dollar projects.
  5. Oh I totally agree. Rail should go down Bellaire Blvd. Although Between West U and the Bellaire transit Center, there aren't a lot of commercial nor high density housing to service. Bellaire has a trolley on display to show its history. So I'm sure they are rail friendly.
  6. There is a question on why even have the new high school in Bellaire? Land is very expensive in Bellaire and just one block outside its a lot cheaper.

  9. Welcome to the neighborhood. Once you start having kids, sign them up for the neighborhood sports programs. You get to meet a LOT of neighbors and really get to know them this way.

  11. Too bad Houston doesn't have a Chicago style Magnificent Mile type area. Post Oak could have been that if everyone just worked together.
  12. Maybe, but that is a super busy pedestrian corridor, what with all the foreign tourists that go to the Galleria and think Houston is a walkable city. That's what's wrong with Houston, every development is an island to itself. Look at lower Westheimer, could have been a premier pedestrian friendly district, but ruined because everyone can't see a bigger picture.
  13. Cougar Place is being replaced by more stick construction? What the heck is wrong with UH. They need to build only with long lasting materials, like concrete blocks and steel! There is nothing more destructive than newly liberated from parents 18 year olds living by themselves. No dorms should ever be built with stick construction methods. That's why they had to tear down Cougar Place after only 30 years!
  14. It sure doesn't engage Post Oak very well. Could have made a nice pedestrian connection, but didn't.
  15. If you want bit nicer neighborhood, check out Braes Heights. Just north of Braes Bayou and south of West U. Its in the city of Houston but they have a strong HAO, not control freaks that require you to paint your house a certain way, but one that keeps up the community spaces and organize a private patrol. They were also instrumental in tearing down the crack house apartments and had them replaced with a YMCA, a library and senior services building. Then HISD rebuilt Pershing and Twain. Its basically all new in the heart of Braes Heights. The lots are huge with a mix of new "McMansions" and ranch homes, but there are some architectural gems within. They also parlayed Allison Flood funding to redo all the streets and sidewalks. Really changed the look of the neighborhood. Really a strong sense of community and lots of kids and young families. What's great is that West U is such a well to do city that all around its borders, business have really invested a lot to cater to them and neighborhoods close to West U also benefit. HEB and Kroger come to mind. Plus as mentioned its close to the Med Center and there are lots of educated neighbors to be had. I believe the Little Couple reside somewhere there. If you do like Linkwood/Knollwood, just stay away from the West U sewage treatment plant on Braes Bayou near Kirby. The smell can carry quite a distance.
  16. Wow! Great projects. And I love that the new buildings are tall. I only wish that UH would do more infill projects. It seems like UH is experiencing urban sprawl. They should take into account how long it takes a student to walk between classes.
  17. Just came back from NYC and went the the 5th ave Apple store. It was amazing and a tourist attraction in its own right. What I found completely crazy is that its open 24 hours a day!
  18. UH has a nursing program now at Sugar Land. Also are you looking for an associates degree or a BSN? The community colleges only offer 2 year associates degrees. Some of the bigger hospitals now are only recruiting BSNs.
  19. They probably won't be sending the C Class wagon over to the US, that niche has been taken over by the GLK, which is basically a C Class SUV.
  20. I agree, why even bother making the 4Runner that way it is on the preview pictures? They already have a mid-sized mommy SUV, the Highlander. They should have made the 4Runner more of an off roader. More basic.
