My wife graduated from IWA so yea, I've helped fund that addition. BTW, I don't think being well off has anything to do with going to IWA, its not cheap, its just not as accessible to the soccer moms as the other schools.

So I pass by Summit Place or Plaza, right next to Lakewood Church/Compaq Cente/Summit, and that project look totally idiotic. First I noticed that the pyramid shaped caps on the towers were way out of proportion to the rest of the building (all the had to do was copy the cap on the Mercedes dealership next door) then they are building a garage behind it that you can see is towering over it from the freeway. Doesn't look like the architects did any mass models! To top it off, the garage look like it will be unfinished concrete while the store fronts are brick! Talk about another uninspired project for Houston. I was hoping that something good would be built there. I also hate the Spanish Colonial strip malls they built on the other side of the freeway, replete with the fake tile roofs. Why can't the city embrace some modern architecture for once?

Dang, to bad they are building it to look like the 80's building. Times have changed, they should revel in the fact that their school was founded in 1873.

Gene, I couldn't agree more. Where are the new crop of Hineses from Houston? Seems like all the big developers are from out of town. Houston used to have such a pioneering spirit but its gone now. Compaq Oshmans Randalls Foleys Astroworld What happened?

Exactly, they'd do more damage by bombing the ice rink in the Galleria than a sky lobby.

I don't get it, why would having access to the sky loby be a security risk? I'm pretty sure that if they wanted to fly and airplane into Williams Tower they can do it from outside of the sky lobby.

Do they own all the houses around their Museum? The grey colored ones? That would be a great place to buy a house.- 420 replies

NO way I'm going to see a bunch of dead bodies that have been mutilated. Gross. And to profit from it is even worse. Now I do recommend seeing the Egyptian mummy exhibit. Now that is fantastic.

Better hurry because Lovette homes is doing big business down there. Which only means the property value will be going up because of greed. -
I'd love a Walmart near my house. I hope Walmart buys it, it'll be the only one in the whole south loop area. They'd mop up. Plus they already own the property next door.

Actually the obelisk was in dire need of repair also. It is a total make over. To bad they couldn't coincide the re-dedication with MLK day. BTW, I saw the broken obelisk in New York City as well.- 110 replies

I just heard on the radio that Astroworld was in the top 5 destinations for all attractions in Texas. How can that lose money? Its the greedy corporation that is giving Houston the shaft as they want a quick buck off the land sale. If they had just invested some money into Astroworld, it would have performed well enough for it to be viable.

They want to get rid of the Taj Mahal because that atrium uses too much electricity to keep cool. Good idea, but too extravagant for a school district. Whatever happens there I hope they keep a hard edge by the street instead of having parking lots in front. I hate that.

Stanford fields a good football program, and they aren't exactly an average school. In fact, Stanford always wins out that award for most outstanding overall athletic program in the nation beating out UT Austin. So being smart isn't exclusive to having a good athletic program.- 113 replies
