  1. It's actually quite common for corporations to build their corporate campuses in the suburbs where there's lots of housing and good schools. This location has excellent access to the big airport as well as corporate jet service at nearby Hooks and is located on a good side of town, making it easy to attract good workers and their families. Obviously, this is a great location for a corporate campus. Compaq rose from nothing to become the #1 computer maker in the world before merging with HP. I wouldn't worry about that happening, Midtown. Greater Tomball? not quite. Speaking of Tomball, anyone seen BJ Services new Technology Center campus? I was driving back from the Woodlands the other day and was impressed with their big new campus. It's got that modern german design look, like something you'd find near Munich. 2. They're still there, I believe when they merged with Compaq, they downsized the workforce and reduced the need for some of those buildings. Additionally, HP has some new $400 million data center located on the Vintage Park side of 249. Perhaps somebody else might be able to give us more info on what is planned for that area.
  3. 4 buildings that were originally part of the wooded HP Campus in northwest Harris County on 249 are going to be redeveloped into corporate office buildings as part of a $100M, 44.5 acre project headed up by Macfarlan Capital Partners and Buchanan Street Partners. It is being marketed as the largest block of office space available for a corporate campus in Houston. The project, to be named the Centre at Cypress Creek will include: 3 interconnected 4-story office buildings and 1 computer manufacturing facility 630,000 sq ft of space 4 Parking Garages Complete in 2008 http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/5020331.html *This may have been the portion that UH was hoping to buy before having to postpone their plans for a NW Harris County campus.
  4. You can do some amazing things with parking garages these days. Some, you can't even tell they're garages, from the street they look like buildings. Tech's "Garage Mahal" is a good example:
  5. I'm a UT and Tech alum, so I see it from two sides. At UT I was disgusted by how much money is wasted. At Tech, I was amazed at how far they could stretch the dollar. I fully support a total restructuring of the way Higher Education is financed in Texas. As it is now, it is completely provincial and very backwards-assed. The PUF and the HEF need to be put into one pot with no legal restraints on who gets funded. With tuition deregulation, scholarships have suffered as the available scholarship moneys are sucked up due to higher tuition costs. As you could imagine, this affects schools other than UT and A&M especially hard. Barring a full-on assault from the non-PUF schools or public outcry, I don't see much changing with the way PUF funds are alotted - especially with this Governor. Aside from that, schools are just going to have to bootstrap it themselves. I see UH is about to embark on a capital campaign. Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance has set the goal for Tech's upcoming capital campaign at $1 Billion. They're wanting to grow the TTU endowment (which is presently valued at around $620M returning about 17%/year) and expand available scholarship money. Good timing as AT&T CEO, Ed Whitacre, just retired and has a couple of hundred million burning a hole in his pocket. Hance has also put forth a plan to grow Texas Tech's Lubbock campus to around 40,000 students by 2020 as well as expanding the Texas Tech University System. In the meantime, Tech added Angelo State University, a regional university with about 6,500 students along with it's relatively hefty endowment ($80M). ASU opted out of the Texas State System to join the TTU System during this legislative session and it appears Tech will add several more during the next session as there is talk of a major reshuffling. The next legislative session will feature some major changes in Higher Education - so we'll see what happens.
  6. Should go in right across from the new Cypress Ranch High School.
  7. Since that has nothing to do with the Texas A&M Cover Up story which happens to be the topic of this thread. Please answer the question. Does the 'Aggie Code of Honor' pertain to A&M administrators?
  8. I guess I'm just uncomfortable with officials covering up accidental exposures of highly infectious diseases at the local bioweapons lab.
  9. This would be one of the drawbacks of having such facilities on campus. http://www.star-telegram.com/news/story/149876.html Serious question: does the Aggie Code of Honor pertain to university officials?
  10. I think Vintage Park would be a great place for a Maggianos.
  11. Randall's (and to some degree Krogers) suffer from being somewhat generic in their product offerings - that is to say, they don't have their fingers on the pulse of what people in this market want. HEB does. Also, it seems that Randall's (ie. Safeway) feels that price gouging is perfectly acceptable.
  12. Billions on Homeland Security for big brother to keep his eye on all of us (in the name of Al Quaida)...meanwhile the Border is STILL wide open. Legislators and the media like to use this ridiculous 12 million number when they talk about how many illegal immigrants are living here (it's more like 20-30 million). No wonder our demographics have changed so dramatically in the past 20 years.
  13. Randall's pricing has become absurd. That chain has really gone to crap since the Onstead's sold it to Safeway.
  14. I like the stone and glass exterior. I wonder if they're going to use this design (or a slightly modified version of it) for the next HS (#4)? I think that one is scheduled to open within the next 5 years. BTW...I just saw pics of the new Wunsche Academy campus. Very nice as well.
  15. Pretty impressive looking campus: http://images.chron.com/photos/2007/06/09/6613479/600xPopupGallery.jpg http://images.chron.com/photos/2007/06/09/6613406/600xPopupGallery.jpg More Pics here: http://www.chron.com/community/photogaller...lery.html#_self
  16. Best site out there for this sort of thing: http://www.schooldigger.com/
  17. Should be a good game. Cy-Fair has a salty team. Too bad it couldn't be an all-Houston final. I think these are the best two teams in the State of Texas. Cy-Fair battles Klein Collins Thursday - Winner Plays for State Title
  18. Anyone know the history of the "Federal" Reserve system? Quite interesting. Some would even say criminal.
