  1. what's the difference between a fire pole and a stripper pole? I can't say the punchline I just wrote, it's dirty.
  2. Some days are good, the rest are necessary.
  3. I can assure you from way too much experience, that those who attempt and/or commit suicide are not cowards. They are people in so much pain that feel so hopeless they don't think they can go on and they don't think anything will change. Is that true? most of the time, no, but it seems true to them. Compassion, it's a good thing.
  4. I was just referring to all the talk about velocity and such. It just seems gory. Just me I guess.
  5. Not to be judgmental here, but don't you think you guys may be being a little insensitive? I hope ttu is not reading all this.
  6. Be very kind to yourself ttutrav. You can expect some post trauma from that. I am so sorry you had to witness that and I am glad that you are talking about it. That will help lessen the trauma you experienced. Thanks for posting.
  7. Is that restaurant still in business. I went there once years ago and it was pretty sad.
  8. That is so sad. I did not hear anything about it and I am in the KBR building. I will see if anybody else did.
  9. Well, yeah, did I not mention that the "happy" is probably not from a natural source? I don't go there for many of the reasons you say, but the few times that I have gone in there as a last resort, they have really tried to accommodate me.
  10. 3 Hermanos Grocery & Grill @ 6500 N. Main: this is a fairly new grocery convenience store and hamburger stand. The people that work there are incredibly generous. Going in there can be a throw back to the hippie days of the 60s. The employees are always, let's see how to put this, happy? I stopped once right to ask if they happened to have a plunger for sale (have you tried to buy one of these at 3:00 in the mornin?) and they looked for one to lend me when they didn't have one to sell. Puebla Bakery @ 6320 N. Main : This is owned by a very nice young man. They have great breakfast tacos and I'll be they have great Mexican food as a large part of their patronge Mexicans, always a good sign. Polo's Sports Bar/Dan Electros: I live within spitting distance of this bar and I know nothing about it, good or bad. That is probably a good thing since it means there seems to be nothing to complain about, except I do hear of the occasional bar patron peeing in the alley. Dan Electros on theother hand, is a very good neighbor. Bob goes out of his way to be sure he or his patrons are not a nuisance. Plus he lets the neighbors in for free. C&F Drive Inn @ 6714 N. Main Another bar that seems to be good neighbors. Lots of bikers go there, don't know if they are of the yuppie biker variety or the real deal. Rose Garden @ 2621 Link The Rose Garden is one of, if not the last Polish bar in what was once a predominantly Polish neighborhood. There were many little bars speckled throughout Sunset Heights and these were family bars. Rose, the proprietor, lives up to her name. She has opened up to the neighborhood for association fundraising and is very generous when she does. It is a bar bar. you go there for no other reason than to drink and/or socialize. Beer and wine, and really cold sodas.
  11. Yep, I agree Cullen State or Cullen Robertson State, but that is actually what UH proper should be called. It would not exist as a major university were it not for them. Leave UH-Downtown as UH Downtown and rename the main campus.
  12. Umm, hello...Houston is not in South Texas. We are in Southeast Texas. Brownsville, Kingsville, Corpus Christi...South Texas. Houston, Beaumont, Conroe, Huntsville, Galveston...Southeast Texas. Okay? OK!
  13. A resident can request the space in front of their home to be deemed no parking. If they get it, then they too can not park there. However, if the police patrols in the area are familiar with the resident, they will oftentimes overlook it when the resident parks in front of their home if it is no parking. When I lived behind Empire Cafe off of Westheimer, the area in front of our house was deemed No Parking by the former homeowner. When my then husband was ticketed for parking there, the officer told me that had he known it was the resident, he would not have ticketed him.
  14. The Dynamo Stadium possible location helped me sell some East End property very quickly. The very day we listed the property, they announced the location. Got a full price offer within two days. Thanks Dynamo!
  15. Anybody remember Wee Wild West? I remember Peppermint Park. I was 4 in 1963, so I may have been at that party. Unfortunately, my favorite part of these parties were the cupcakes...still are!
  16. No, but he was seen rooting for truffles. Oh sorry, that was Carolyn Farb at Hotel ZaZa.
  17. NPR had a good point this morning. They stated that there were probably thousands more undocumented (no pun intended) cases of the flu there, and therefore the death rate would not be any greater than that of the U.S.
  18. I have heard that implication on more than one occasion. And yes, it is important for the public to know. I think the most important factor, other than that, is that he was here from Mexico. The access to healthcare is very different than that which we enjoy and may be responsible for the increased death rate in Mexico. Again, I would worry as a parent, just because parents don't want to see their children suffer, but I wouldn't worry too much. Media overhype has become the norm on EVERYTHING these days, and this is just ripe for the picking.
  19. I laugh and I joke, but if I had young children I would be worried as well. The liklihood of them having any serious complications is low, but I would still be worried.
  20. OMG, it's in my neighborhood! HELP ME!
  21. I agree, and further, we all get our turn at stupid.
  22. Sorry, we've changed administrations.
