  1. In the last couple days, the building that housed the River Cafe (Montrose & Marshall) was demolished. Does anyone know what is coming next? Have any permits been filed with the city??

I know they planned the midrise there several years ago, but that fell through. It shocked me to drive down the street and see that it was gone!

This was supposed to be pretty impressive when it was annouced, and had good legs for a while like the Turnberry Tower.

May I suggest a topic merge?

Update: Looks like Lauren already mention this las week per Swamplot on said thread.

  2. It seems like a whole bunch of threads that are month or even years dormant are starting to be revived. There's an option in the software to make old dead threads read-only. I wonder if I should turn that on.

LOL'd I just dug one up from the grave myself.

But I am fine, but I like less clutter on the forums. So unless it can't be rinsed, reused, and recycled to some sort of relative continuity, I a game.

The whole LaCenterra 2009 was unnecessary.

How about you just ban kirk, because the nature of this forum is such that really old threads need to be bumped sometimes.

What would Spock say about this?

At the very least, we should give Kirk and Carol credit for bringing this to our attention, maybe call this new forum rule the "Kirk Bumping Old Carol" Clause. :D

  3. HEY CAROL.........THERE IS AN OBSERVATION FLOOR AT THE WILLIAMS TOWER............YOU SHOULD GO UP THERE SOMEDAY................ALSO THERE IS A 75 STORY BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN HOUSTON THAT HAS AN OBSERVATION FLOOR TOO, GREAT VIEWS............AND THE EL CAPITAN IS PART OF THE HISTORY OF PASADENA............THE OLDER PART, RIGHT

AND CAROL...............THEY HAVE TUNNELS UNDERNEATH DOWNTOWN HOUSTON JUST FULL OF STORES AND EATERIES............YOU CAN WALK THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF TOWN.............ITS REALLY NEAT UNDER THERE...............YOU SHOULD TRY THAT SOMETIME TOO

Captain Kirk beams this year old post back from the dead. I hope Carol appreciates it.

    How Doogie Howser of you.

  4. This afternoon Council Member Anne Clutterbuck and Parks and Recreation Director, Joe Turner, Upper Kirby TIRZ and Management District Board Chairmen and others will dedicate the first set of new trees to be planted on Kirby Drive between Richmond and Westheimer.

    From the press release:

    It's gonna look amazing.

200 gallon trees is not a bad start.

  5. Awesome! I'll be working overseas for a about a month and half starting next week... It's going to be awesome to come back to downtown with (hopefully) HP hoppin (lucky strike, mia bella, cork wine bar, 3 forks, etc... open!) and the DG area becoming very vibrant. Seems like it has taken HP 1 year to get going but it's going to be awesome coupled with discovery green and the surrounding developments...

Another hotel will bring tons more activity to the HP. Anyone who does not have a car and walk around!

    Go Houston.

  6. I'm sure the shopping center will cease to exist in the next 5-10 years, so no biggie there. And I think the entrance in the allexy/driveway is fine. Paris is made up of alleys and I remember the entrance to my hotel being just up the alley.

For such a new shopping center, it's sad if that were true, but I would welcome a better use of that land at such a prime location.

It has great potential to pull sidewalk traffic from Macy's

As it stands, there is not motivation for people to cross the intersection, and then walk across a strip center style parking lot.

Let hope, if they do, we can so retail near the street in the next redesign.

  7. Did anyone know this was being built? I searched and could not find anything on it. Sure it's not headline news, but it's 15 stories and they made it pedestrian friendly.

Not sure how much discussion this will get since it's finished, but thought I'd post a notice anyway.

C2N said it best, it's been finished for a while, and both hotels are back to back.

Not the best "pedestrian friendly" design, but better than most suburban designs.

The shopping center next to it screws up that potential, and the front entrance is just a driveway/alley, rather than a street.
