    You know, I kind of feel the same way. I really haven't heard or seen anything "better" so I can live with the new name (if it gets final approval). Better than some convoluted directional name with an obscure geographical reference, like the University of SE Texas Gulfcoast (USETG).

    Yeah, that kind of annoys me as well. Meanwhile, I anticipate the transformation of that section of Uptown, considering the construction activity taking place on this tower as well as at the adjacent High Street site.

    I also like the rendering. I also wonder how financing will come about in today's environment. If it does, then I think there should be a detailed study of how the developers were able to secure the dough. It would have to be ingenious.

    I'm not sure I'd like it taller. I actually like the symmetry of the current design given its height. It would also seem to fit into its enviroment at this height as well.

    Knock on wood: I've never experienced any vandalism to my car when I park downtown (and sometimes I drive to work during the day). I've never had a problem with being approached or threatened (although, I admit that I'm a larger size than average). However, I think there is a perception of danger in certain areas of downtown because a) some places at the street level aren't as well lit, b.) some places feel more isolated than others, and c.) there are still some homeless people floating about the streets and for some people coming across them is a little worrisome. Overall, though, I think downtown's pretty safe.

    People are surprised that there are delays and cancelations of large-scaled mixed-use, residential and commercial projects in THIS economy? Seriously?

    The second residential tower in the third image looks rather specific in design, don't you think? I wonder if that's a working design.

    Isn't UH-D a state-funded institution? I might see the state jumping in and pushing a name like Texas State University - Houston (similar to how California has Cal. State - Los Angeles or Cal. State - Fullerton or Cal-State Long Beach and so on). I'm not all that opposed to Houston Metropolitan University but I believe there are similar versions of that name in other metropolises. Two that come to mind are Metropolitan State in Denver and Atlanta Metropolitan College. I could also see something like a Texas Coastal University, like Coastal Carolina near Myrtle Beach, SC.

    Yes, it's been thee for a few weeks now. I've seen them doing work on a couple of occasions, kind of like how 2727 Kirby's site would have very sporadic work taking place, to the point that some questioned whether or not it was actually taking place at all.

    What a coincidence. I was riding by earlier today and was wondering what the status was. Thanks for at least making mention of it. Financing is the big issue with a lot of projects these days.

    IAH would be the nation's (US) 8th largest airport. 16th seems reasonable on an international scale.

    The Rockets essentially acquired Artest for a bowl of grits. I mean, Green could turn out to be a good player and the future first rounder might be a decent player, but Artest is a legit 20 point per game player who can defend and add toughness. Plus, he likes to drive to the basket, something the Rox desperately needs during crunch time. I could see if the Rockets gave up a lot but they essentially bought a bottle of Glenlivet for the cost of a 12-oz can of Coke.

    You don't have to have a lot of construction equipment on site to have a ceremonial ground breaking. Not saying that things are a go, just that the lack of construction equipment might not necessarily be an indicator of anything not happening.

    I dunno, I always felt that building would make for a good neighborhood grocer. it's the empty lot across the street from it that seems to be screaming for a restaurant of some kind. As for the construction activity, I thought it had something to do with the street projects going on in the area, like laying down new water mains and such. If something more significant is going on, I'd sure like to know about it.

    I've accepted it for what it is: it's a useful and popular place for lunchtime crowds and convenience shopping but it's not a "destination". It's not meant to be the talk of the town or any other town. I'm sure that it can evolve as downtown evolves but right now, it seems to work pretty well for what it is.

    I've been impressed with most of the images of Recent Square I've come across. The mid-rise buildings look very attractive along with the sidewalks and green spaces. In this last image, the tower is obviously vague, although it seems to suggest that glass will be the primary surface. In this case, the mostly glass surfaces would seem to be out of place with the rest of the project, IMO.

    I think Vertigo's gone from having fallen in love to becoming Glen Close. I'm just joking around. I agree that it really looks great in both photos and in person.
