  1. FINALLY! its not easy to tell..but this place had only 2 balconies with anything on them! Scooby doobie doo! where are you?
  2. i'm going to remember my camera tomorrow....i'm going to remember my camera tomorrow....i'm going to remember my camera tomorrow....i'm going to remember my camera tomorrow....i'm going to remember my camera tomorrow.... My office overlooks the building...I can see right through most of the apartments...empty! if they are sold, they don't have anyone living in them...
  3. the 2 "fire" blips in your picture are very cool! I've noticed those at different times of the day in various windows, never seen a pic of it though.
  4. dang it! I forgot my camera again... thing about that pool deck...who would want to swim in it?...at least during a work day? I can tell you that anytime anyone is in that pool or around it, men swarm to that side of the building with binoculars
  5. I mentioned this at a neighborhood meeting, and everyone got really excited. I do think that a small local soul food place would do well. Adds a bit of diversity to the area, and we all know we like to sneak fried anything from time to time...hope they have a take out section!
  6. that is the one business that seems to be doing okay...tropioca, a bubble tea place. I agree that you would THINK that it would be highly successful....so, are we thinking ghose then? I forgot my camera today...will have to snoop tomorrow...
  7. it sure looks upscale and expensive from the groung...but from parallel, you can see that they are all empty. ONE family/person moved in last week. I'll try to take some pictures.
  8. Has anyone taken a walk through the commerce tower recently? What was once at thriving tunnel stop is closing down faster than you can think of what to get for lunch! Starbucks - closed. Salad place, mexican place, Luthers - closed. Stallones - closed. Topz - doomed (no one is ever in there). Expensive candy shop - 2 months tops. And the condos they try to sell/lease. Totally empty. My office looks right into the, and only 1 or 2 are occupied. What is it about this building do you think that is not allowing it to prosper? The location is central, the building is nice.
  9. The sandwhick place in the heights on 19th street serves lots of veggie options. I haven't eaten there though...strangely, every time I go in I find myself craving meat
  10. I don't see how a business can survive with those hours. It isn't close enough to most downtown business for a heavy lunch traffic.
  11. do you live in Houston? If so, just pop into 1000 Main (although many others will do) and go down and check it out. Lack of street level retail is probably due in part to the tunnels, part to the weather, and part due to the fact that up until a couple of years ago, you really didn't want to walk around on the street level if you didn't have to (or so I've heard) due to construction, crime and grime. Feel free to correct me on this statement though.
  12. No, I wouldn't call this area the Heights. I think it is sometimes referred to as Brooksmith (incidentally, I need to start another thread about the homes in this area...where as they are mostly very run down, they are gorgeous...exact same style as you see in the 6th ward). I think it might even be formally the 6th ward, but only a small group of streets gets that designation today. That doesn't change the fact though that it will be greatly appreciated by people who live in the Heights. We get all the benefit of having convenient retail nearby, without having to have it directly in our "hood". I do believe that if they put any sort of grocery store there, it would do very well. Not only having the benefit of being the only store in the area (Heights and all along the washington corridor) but with the bonus convenience of a Target nearby. I know that supporting local retail is important, but sometimes, you just want to get all your errands done as fast as possible!
  13. A colleague is thinking about buying a townhome right across the street from this site. What do y'all think the potential of this area is? I'm thinking that any value wouldn't be realized until well after the construction. Say 4-5 years from now. But at that time, the value would jump. However, with so much residential footage and traffic in the area, would it actually decrease?
  14. I forgot the best part...if we made the Dome a club....Dallas wouldn't have one! >
  15. Wouldn't that be a great way to save the dome...turn it into a night club!! There can be goth nights for Coog, kicker nights during Nascar and a techno night...they already have the rainbow colored seats apparently!
  16. I think it is still the Rocky's. How can a fashion that give you a weggie with the added benefit of making your butt look huge ever go out of style? riiight, Larry was telling the crowd what a touching story it was and how it applied to his life...it actually turned into a bit about sheep farming.... it was like the collective masses were afraid of even acknowleding the movie This website is bad for my career.
  17. we saw that larry the cable guy guy (work thing, not my choice! but would you turn down a chance to sit in reliant's suite at reliant stadium?) and he was cracking his jokes...and started making jokes about brokeback mountain...the entire stadium started booing, and not laughing...then he moved on to nascar, and the crowd went wild! It just felt that the audience was not representative of the COH that I live in. It was like I had warped to some other town. I'll grant you, I have a very narrow interpretation of Houston (inner loop). But, this is the Houston LSR, so I would have hoped for a more Houstonian reaction to what few witty comments he did have.
  18. did you know they turned the entire astrodome into a dance club??? has anyone been? the idea of that seems crazy huge to me! Crowd control, liquor distribution, security...not to mention all those insanly tight jeans and oversized hats in one very large room!! Even this Aggie is disturbed by the though of it p.s. - the population of the rodeo was vastly different from the population of MY houston! When mentioning Brokeback Mtn, the crowd boo'd and got fairly quiet...but when NASCAR was mentioned...hold on to your seats! WHAT???
  19. Great! Just what I need to keep my itsy bitsy teeny weenie yellow polka dot bikini in the closet for yet another decade!
  20. what is it? a restaurant? a big cookie? a cookie shop?
  21. I believe they let you copy the maps...I saw a board before leaving with prices. I'll let you know later as I do want to copy a couple of them. That is a great idea about the scanning, but then, great ideas that make too much sense often get left alone
  22. Does anyone know how he got the bodies to begin with? Do individuals will their bodies to him? Do families volunteer them? It may sound weird, but the answer to this question will determine if I go or not.
