St. Joseph Medical Center At 1401 St. Joseph Pkwy.
gardenoaksguy replied to Houstonian in Iraq's topic in Downtown
I worked for Christus and Christus never owned that building. I have no idea who owns it now, but the previous owner was difficult to work with from a tenants perspective and would have never invested in it to even paint let alone tack up a giant cross. It is distracting and rather tasteless, and seems more like a marketing tool than related to mission, especially since the building was never owned by a religious organization. Who says religion isn't a business? -

And thank you RedScare for your positive contribution. It always helps me remember why I rarely participate in any discussion on this site.....rudeness seems the daily dish.- 1,445 replies

The Langley: Residential High-Rise At 1717 Bissonnet St.

Can't say I wouldn't be a NIMBY on this project either. I mean, think about it, you have invested a great deal of money in your own property (doesn't matter if you are rich or not, money is money), and along comes a project that may ultimately devalue your property or make it much more difficult to sell. Zoning or not, would you REALLY want a 20-30 story building in the backyard of your house? For many people, that is no better than a porn shop.- 1,445 replies

I understand after reading the Chron last weekend that this project "bit the dust"....although the developers are blaming on red tape instead of the economy.- 1,445 replies

It used to be white before Continental moved into the building and changed it to blue with the logo.

Margaret M. Alkek-Williams Center For Dance At 601 Preston St.

Well, if it is Gensler designing the building we are pretty much guaranteed another glass box. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much that they have designed that is very creative. I would love to be wrong.- 186 replies

Bill Mraz Dance Hall & Residences At 835 W. 34th St.
gardenoaksguy replied to suziiswanda's topic in Historic Houston
Yes, this is a couple of blocks from my house. I hope they don't have too many loud bands for their outdoor receptions. Should be an interesting neighbor for what they call on their website the "historic Garden Oaks District". Didn't know I lived in a "historic" area or a "district".- 7 replies

The Galleria Mall At 5085 Westheimer Rd.
gardenoaksguy replied to TreaderCRC's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
I believe this is the second time around for Barney's at the Galleria. They had a store next to Neiman Marcus several years ago (not sure what is there now) and closed it. Good to see them coming back. -
I work at MDACC. Once this building is completed they will move many functions currently in the Prudential Building into it and other locations. Then, unfortunately, it is bye bye Prudential. It will be replaced by some other kind of expansion in the future.

I don't know about anyone else on this site, but I am sad to see the old Hermann Hospital building being buried behind the not-very-pretty 2005 version of Spanish Mediterranian style. I always enjoyed the view of the old building from the park and intersection. What we will now see cannot possibly replace it. Houston loses another piece of architecural history....athough not being torn down, it won't be seen again.

If I recall correctly, it was by their facility over on I-10 east near the East Loop. Never saw it. It was nothing like the facility in Florida, just gardens I believe.
