  1. I think there should be an airport station, but that wouldn't necessarily mean all trains would stop there. Most trains would be express, and a few would run between IAH and downtown since we do not currently have any transit service connecting the two (besides the 102 bus, but that takes about an hour to get to downtown).

    The way they've gained the support of the airlines is by promising stops at the airports and keeping open the possibility of allowing them to operate the trains. By diverting short-hop flights to rail they can open up landing slots for more profitable, long-haul flights.

    This is also part of the idea behind the California HSR and HS2 in England. Shifting those flights to rail will cut congestion at the airports and save billions on airport expansion that would otherwise be necessary.

  2. I agree, Why did they not put it up to the street? You would think that with the rail eventually going through and with other mixed use developments like the BBVA Compass Bank development down the street going up that they would want to make it pedestrian friendly.

    Just speculating, but could they be anticipating some property takings when the rail line is built?

  3. The Red Line is to close this weekend due to TMC bridge construction. Why do they have to close the whole damn thing? Can't they bridge stations with buses, like when it floods?

    I was going to ride it to two destinations this weekend.

    If the wires have to be deenergized and the work goes on all night then trains can't make it back to the maintenance and cleaning facility. That's my guess.

    You can still ride the shuttle buses. They will be running more often than the trains would so total travel time should be similar.

  4. The bridge has been open to traffic since last week, though not all turn movements are allowed on the TMC side. Pedestrian trails haven't been connected, but they may be waiting for whatever Project Brays work is imminent before doing that.

  5. They will almost certainly open in stages. My bet is on the East End Line (minus Magnolia TC because of the bridge/tunnel issue) and the Downtown portion of Southeast to open first, followed by the rest of Southeast and North. At this point the University Line is the biggest laggard and the Uptown line can't open until after that. I'm more skeptical every day that it will all happen by 2012, though I'm told construction on the Main Street Line only took 3 years, so i guess time will tell.
