  1. Another update from the emailer list! WHEN ARE WE MOVING? Soon. Howsoon? We wish we could give you aspecific answer, but in the coming weeks. We will make a big announcement in our newsletter though to make sureeverybody is aware ahead of time of when the first tour at the new locationwill be. very exciting!
  2. hahaha one of the cool things I liked about the current Market Square was that they incorporated the tile floors of older building in the walkways, a very subtle nod to the history of Houston, if they lose that, we'll be losing out on that bit of history.
  3. Parking isn't an issue, just park at a location that is close to a rail stop and take the rail the rest of the way! Midtown is an excellent place to do this, there is plenty of free parking on the side of the streets within a block or two of rail stops, and the rail stop by the park is so close. Much better than fighting traffic to get into Hermann park, and then surf the lots trying to find something.
  4. Los Angeles has a corridor that goes all the way from the port to the west side of town, this corridor is underground, but uncovered. Houston should take a look at this, and choose a few of the freight lines that are heavily trafficked in heavily populated areas and consider this. Not only do the trains get to go like 55mph through residential areas, and cars don't have to stop. I'm sure they've considered this as a possibility though.
  5. Went to the brewery a few weeks ago, and amidst the debauchery I asked one of the guys that works there, and he estimates mid-October now. I imagine it will probably be more like mid-November, but regardless, it is soon enough I can almost taste the beer hitting my lips in their new expanded and air conditioned facility!
  6. not to get in a sandwich discussion, in a sandwich thread, but I prefer subway bread over all of the rest, but that is all I prefer, I find their preparation areas to be messy at best, and I just feel like I'm playing russian roulette with the number of friends I have that say they've had food poisoning from one of them. regarding making a sandwich at home (or bringing supplies to the office to stick in the fridge), when you want to eat out with friends for lunch, and want something more healthy than a hamburger, but less healthy than a salad, and want to stay within a certain price range, sandwich shops are usually top of that list.
  7. Which Wich is a good option that I will go to, I would give a toe from my left foot for a thundercloud, there used to be 1 in houston that I knew about, up off of 249 near compaq in the late 90s. One good thing about which wich that other sandwich shops in the midtown area don't have is online ordering, which is a really good thing. looking online though, I guess quiznos has online ordering too.
  8. ha, yeah, I bet the firefighters were quick to respond because of this and also because they like to shop there!
  9. completely different era, and I don't consider it historic, yet, but I remember the dos pesos/taco cabana law suits. totally pissed me off cause dos pesos had much better food and cheaper margaritas! (and at the time they didn't card as much, which was good for me).
  10. wow, I can't see how they don't pull the trigger on the stadium. $20,000,000 in infrastructure (replace old and busted with new hotness) that the city pays. $60,000,000 for the stadium that the dynamo itself pays. and the city and county will own the stadium? why is this even a question, both projects, the infrastructure, and the stadium itself will create jobs and revenue in the city, not to mention the jobs and revenue that are created specific to the area that would be seen after completion. maybe I'm missing something? or is it an all or nothing kind of deal where all 4 things are part of the same thing? that would suck.
  11. I'm surprised "Legalize MJ, and start growing in DOME" wasn't one of the top 10 possible uses. hell, it doesn't have to be legalized, just do it anyway, it's owned by the county, it isn't like we can all go to jail, right?
  12. That would work for about a day or two. Americans in cars, in general, are too impatient to wait for people to cross the street.
  13. I was eating at Rudi Lechner's on Wednesday with the folks, and decided to drive up Gessner to I-10 to get back to town, huge mistake, it took 5 minutes to get from there to Barryknoll, then I got stuck at the light at Barryknoll, and every single 1 of the 5 lights between there and I-10 are timed so you get to sit at them... at 10 o-clock at night. Granted they are still doing work on the road, but I will be doing everything in my power to not drive down Gessner until this is completed.
  14. be sure to scan the barfed on copy back in so that we can compare the renderings.
  15. I was going to reference your photo essay, I have a friend that does the same thing, and I've been wanting to do it at least once, I can only imagine the unique perspective that is only hinted at by your photos!
  16. Yes, that is the name! Smallest. Park. Ever. Community garden would be cool though.
  17. Pappa's BBQ, 2 locations DT. 1. Pierce and San Jacinto 2. There is another one up by city hall. It is BBQ, do you need a menu? Foods priced like any BBQ place. It appears that there will be 3 or 4 different ice cream shops in the Houston pavilions, at least, on my last walk through they were coming soon signs. I'll probably go through again tonight and have a more accurate idea. I've also seen lots of ice cream trucks parked along the street surrounding disco green.
  18. Heh, I am a huge fan of the park on the corner of Elgin and Austin, I can't remember the name of it though, and COH is so proud of it, they don't list it on their site..
  19. I think DT (and surrounding areas, Midtown, EE, etc) needs more street level lighting, there are great LED solutions that I've heard of being implemented in NY, low power and bright. If they can figure out a low energy way to light up the tops of the buildings at night, why not? Christmas lights (sorry, holiday lighting) are not an efficient answer though. Done well, it can be aesthetically pleasing. It should be refreshing to look out of the window, or sit on the porch at night and stare into DT at night.
  20. I noticed it wasn't, but it is the Days Inn, and it should be.
  21. block 388. There are some places, imo, that are better off being turned into parking lots than however many stories of the current state of dead hookers and rats.
  22. I know what I had the time I went was good (I think it was the surf and turf with fried rice instead of FF). I'll be going again!
  23. heh, don't drive down alief-clodine to clodine, cause they call the road clodine-alief out there. There's a bunch of examples.
  24. I've actually been getting adventurous on my bike trips on Friday nights and ride by last concert cafe, then up to Lyons and go east or west for a bit. there are a few condos that are built up over by last concert (1300 sterrett?), and I wouldn't be surprised if most of those warehouses haven't been converted to lofts, as the stairs/doors going into the buildings have all been greened up and look really nice, but they are probably art studios, thinking about it. it is somewhat amazing, riding from downtown on san jac, you get the overwhelming smell of day old urine, and then you turn off onto wood, get onto walnut, and the smell is replaced with normal neighborhood smells. If you don't ride a bike, go down the streets with your windows down to get the idea. But, once you get into this 2 block area it is very quiet for being so close to San Jacinto and I-10, probably because the streets don't really go anywhere (yet?). The train is close though.
  25. You know, I was out in LA last year and I said something about the Katy Freeway, and the person I was talking to got an even more confused look on their face than they normally had. Then, when I said feeder, they thought I was speaking Russian.
