  1. Cool. I like how these towers keep springing up right along I-10. Can't wait for 10 years or so down the line, it's going to look great from Highway 6 to the Beltway. Although the traffic at this intersection is already pretty awful at quitting time, and this certainly won't help. I think this is also really close to the site that Skanska bought and is planning on redeveloping, although that's slightly further south and not directly on the highway.
  2. I checked it out yesterday as well. It's a really cool looking store. The only problem is going to be the heat I think... it felt a little warm in there yesterday and it wasn't more than 80 degrees outside. The summer might be pretty rough. But that whole shopping center looks awesome with the new Restoration Hardware that looks like a castle and the different colors of Sprinkles and the paper store next door.
  3. http://blog.chron.co...shby-high-rise/ Don't know how important this is, but it sounds like it's a step toward this getting built.
  4. That top picture is incredible. I love how clear everything is after a storm. Are there any updates on the residential tower that was possibly going in next to this on the same block? This building looks great except for the side that would be facing the tower, which is incredibly boring.
  5. They've also started putting up the aluminum skin around the stadium. There's a cool video here talking about how it's done, as well as some updated pictures on their Facebook page. It's coming along very nicely, can't wait until it opens. http://www.houstondynamo.com/news/2011/12/construction-crew-begins-installation-stadium-exterior-skin
  6. The name is going to be BBVA Compass Stadium... http://www.chron.com...amo-2401086.php
  7. Nancy has an article about this today. Not much new information here, except for maybe the rents (average $1735/month). http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2011/11/luxury-midrise-planned-near-tanglewood/
  8. I know it will probably never happen and even if it does it is lightyears away, but does anyone have any idea of roughly how much a ticket from Houston-Dallas (or Austin, San Antonio, whatever) would cost? I've been on a few trains in Europe but never really in the US and wasn't sure how cost effective it is compared to driving/flying.
  9. The menu looks pretty tasty, a bit more gourmet than I was expecting. As for the construction, parking is going to be a challenge. You used to be able to park literally right in front of this place/Flying Saucer on Capitol but now the nearest parking is at least 3 or 4 blocks away. It seems like every street downtown is under construction.
  10. Can we move this to Going Up now? It'll be easier for everyone to see the photo updates that some of you so graciously post. Also I'm really happy to see this coming along, I can't wait to go to some games here next season. Hopefully the Dynamo can get a designated player and actually be good again.
  11. How do people feel about Fuzzy's? It's my personal favorite, although I've only had the one in Katy so I'm not sure how that compares with the other locations. I would imagine they are pretty similar though.
  12. Opens July 5... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7619307.html
  13. What are they planning on doing with the building housing the America's (and seemingly nothing else these days)? I ate there a couple weeks ago and it was pretty empty, and it's between Phase I and Phase II of BLVD place as far as I can tell. Are they going to demolish it or remodel it or just leave it?
  14. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/7530965.html Looks like there's a good chance that the Texaco building gets redeveloped into apartments with retail! This would be a great use of a classic building.
  15. Is it just me, or are there supposed to be stylized E's for Embassy Suites where the white rectangles are on the crown? I always thought they were going there, but I couldn't really find anything that showed that while quickly browsing the thread. Maybe I just made it up based on the original rendering, but I am always expecting them to be there whenever I go downtown. It looks strange the way it is now.
  16. Nothing spectacular, but it will certainly be an improvement over what's there now. Hopefully they include street-level retail, it sort of looks that way from the rendering but who knows. http://blogs.chron.c...ionary_pri.html
  17. This team is pretty awful, and there aren't many hopes of getting too much better any time soon. With Drayton obviously trying to sell the team, he doesn't care about the performance right now, only getting as much money as he can for the team. So you are probably right, this is a lost season. Hopefully our new owner will spend on some good players. I always said that Mark Cuban would be a great owner for the Astros... I hate him as the Mavs owner and think he is incredibly obnoxious, but I guarantee you he would bring some big-time players in if he bought the Astros. Luckily we're likely getting a noted racist and sexist owner instead! But who cares, as long as he brings us a World Series right? As for the attendance, can you imagine how awful some early week games against teams like Pittsburgh will be? I bet there will be less than 10,000 people in the stadium for some late season games (of course, the reported attendance will be double that, but everyone can see that there aren't anywhere near that many people there). Regardless, I'll still support the Astros, no matter how bad we are. Gotta represent H-Town.
  18. Yeah, come on, this is outside the loop! It might as well be in San Antonio. I'm surprised LTAWACS only has one post complaining that it's not in midtown so far, there should be at least five of those by now. In all seriousness though, the rendering looks pretty nice and I think it will add to that part of Post Oak quite well, especially if they do end up building the other building(s?) that they talk about. With this and BLVD place hopefully getting some action soon, Uptown is going to have some really cool new buildings in the near future.
  19. Sort of a rehash of things already said here, but worth posting nonetheless... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/7441654.html
  20. Opens today... http://blogs.chron.com/primeproperty/2011/02/downtown_hotel_opens_today.html
  21. It's supposed to open March 11, so if that holds, then yes. Also I was listening to a Rockets game on the radio the other night and they had commercials for the hotel, apparently it's the "Official Downtown Hotel of the Houston Rockets".
  22. If Forbidden Gardens is any indication (closing to make way for Grand Parkway), some local businesses are expecting Segment E to be moving forward soon. Although I'm a little surprised that they are not extending 99 over I-10 right now (as far as I know), since they are currently building some connectors from I-10 westbound to 99 southbound and 99 northbound to I-10 eastbound at that intersection.
  23. He was just looking for an excuse to say "Ugh."
  24. Fair enough, I didn't know that about the New York stadium. I guess I've just been wanting it to be built for a long time so it seems like forever. It ended up being good timing though: with Discovery Tower, MainPlace, Embassy Suites, and the ballet building all finishing up, we need some new construction downtown. Hopefully they have a good construction cam!
  25. It's incredible that it's taken this long (that was the first post, from November 2006) to get this thing started, but I'm glad it's finally happening. Hopefully it leads to more development in that area.
