Like two new Ritz Carltons going up at the same time and all of these incredible new restaurants. Maybe 92,300 millionaires has something to do with it. I dont know how many we have, but this article compares Dallas to the Dubai in terms of expensive and fancy eateries.
  4. I've heard from reliable sources that this whole project is going to slow down. With Rice's new administration, and reorganization of Rices direction they are rethinking their future plans for Ion, and a hoped for master plan for Rice's property in the Village. They have released their real estate team and reorganizing their priorities. They have dropped RDA which has been an important community compass helping to guide the city in the right direction. Apparently this project doesnt fit in with the new direction Rice plans to go. I hope this isn't true but I do trust my source.

On a completely different note I would like to invite any and all to come by Andrew Durham gallery to see my latest exhibition of work. Also our group Lindale, will be performing at the gallery on Saturday May 27th, from 6:30 - 9:00. I welcome you to come by and see the art listen to some music on the patio and have some refreshments. I would love to see some HAIF support. I know HINDESKY, has come to see us perform, so come on by and let me know your a HAIFER!
  6. Just read this interesting article today in CNN, about how minimum parking requirements have shaped most American cities, and how those ideas are changing.   8. Even more the reason, it's a great location. And there is not a more condensed walkable area in Houston with as many options to partake in.
  9. I can think of one other area that would really be a great location for this type of hotel. Rice Village. With it's proximity to Rice, TMC, Greenway Plaza, The museum district, and all of the shops restaurants and bars. You could literally walk to anything you wanted to see or do.
  10. I believe that the Menil, wants to keep the height of all buildings surrounding the Menil to two stories or less. I remember someone stating that Mrs. Menil encouraged keeping building heights down near the Menil as to not cast shadows on it. Here is an excerpt taken from the Menil's stated development strategy. There are a variety of potential building typologies that could break away from the traditional four-story stick built model employed through- out Houston, including tower-on-base, slab-on-base, and tower-in-the- park, which would encourage a richer variety of forms while maintaining a balance between building density and the new public open space. Building scale will decrease in height as one moves north from Richmond Avenue, with the tallest buildings anchored along the avenue, and step- ping down to mid-height in the blocks north of Colquitt. The greatest op- portunity to create iconic and meaningful architecture lies in the use of a variety of different building massings modulated across the development sites, and marrying each with its own architectural vision. The Menil will name a private development partner.

  16. That looks amazing. This view of downtown from the Northbank, is really amazing and quite attractive. So this project will be the north bank of the Buffalo Bayou cutoff canal. When the canal is finished this will become the heart of a very edgy, bohemian neighborhood in the northern part of downtown. Obviously, Urban Genesis did their homework, laid out a plan and acted, and now this area has the potential to become a dynamic and hip area to live, work, and play. How fortuitous! This is really going to stimulate interest in this historic neighborhood and this part of downtown. Its always been a very edgy and intriguing area, with a dynamic history. In just my lifetime the neighborhood has been home to movie studios, the James Bute building housing tattoo parlors artist studios, bail bondsmen, coffee importers, galleries, clubs, and coffee houses, and Mother Dog studios, and old narrow streets with old trees, bars, barbers, restaurants, more artist studios and Randal Davis first project. It's my hope that all of the late 19th and early twentieth c. structures that remain in the neighborhood survive so they can provide the fabric that will tie the whole area together. Both sides of San Jacinto will be a very interesting area someday and sooner than later. It is too bad that the bus barn building has to go for the canal, but I like the benefits and the potential to stimulate growth and help bring an exciting renaissance to the Northbank, an area that deserves it.
  17. I am now the director of Andrew Durham gallery directly across the street 1821 W. Alabama, from Sunrise House and wish they would hurry up an open. They just came out and painted over the recent graffiti. Next time you're in the neighborhood come by and say hi and check out the art. Our current show features works by Ann Stautberg, and Frank X. Tolbert 2. I have a show opening May 6th. Love to see all.

  19. Also, I recently drove down Lamar from Avenidas to Labranch, and I wanted to nominate that 2 block drive for the most relaxing, soothing, and beautiful 2 block stretch in downtown.. It also always feels cool. Alternate perhaps Lamar at Bagby passed Heritage park.?
  20. Thats a pretty amazing picture when you think about what that part of town looked like in 2006, before Discovery Green was opened in 2008. Every building in the horseshoe shape was built after the park opened.

  22. It has been an inordinate amount of time for this project to come together. And if you look at some of the earlier images from DC Partners it won't be nearly as impressive as they were originally planning. There were going to be four towers, and a pedestrian bridge to access the Bayou Park. These people worked with Randall Davis too often.
