  1. Noticed these new orange & white flag ground stakes this week. The University of Texas System is wanting to co-develop the 80-acres here. Wishful thinking! Pro_Pole #10
  2. The side of the building features a woman in a face covering. Love it!
  3. Nice! Years ago, Urby posted these but ZC immediately removed them. Nice to see this proposal again. One of my dream developments. Something exciting should be built in the heart of GWP. Renderings for the new page. Could actually be separated into a new topic as a proposal only.
  4. In this historic photograph you can see the South Main Drive-In Theater on the left side and Brochsteins on the right. Amazing view. If only the Domain Privee Casino was captured as well. It's just a tad bit on the right!
  5. Has this been mentioned? The surface lot directly across the street is now For Sale! 24,603 square feet. I think the address is either 2415 Main or 2519 Main. For Sale sign:
  6. I never knew about the single-story annex behind the main hospital. From what I can recall this was built in the 1960s? New Riverside General Hospital Dedication March 19, 1961 Hill-Burton paid for half, Cullinan Endowment the rest. An old entrance to the main hospital.
  7. Edward Lillo Crain bought T.J. Williams House's manufacturing company to fabricate and build his Crain Ready-Cut House Company to build City of Southside Place. Originally the T.J. Williams House Manufacturing Company, but was rebranded as the Crain Ready-Cut House Company. This would have been in the 1920s, or late 1910s.
  8. I took this photo today of the bright red SHOP Companies retail logo wrap. I always love their red designs.
  9. I did not know this park was named after Henry MacGregor's wife, Elizabeth "Peggy" Stevens MacGregor. Very cool! The park was formed in 1927. An aerial view of the park.
  10. One of the City of Houston Park is called Carter Park and located at 7000 Santa Fe Drive. Named after the infamous Houston family the Carters.
  11. The Houston Independent School District's Hobby Elementary School is located at 4021 Woodmont Drive in the Brentwood neighborhood. In 1964 William Pettus Hobby Elementary School opened. Named for our former Governor, William (Bill) Pettus Hobby. https://www.houstonisd.org/hobby It's a large campus. An aerial view.
  12. Some information about the old Mosaic of Medicine that was on the front of the hospital, that has since been decommissioned and moved over to the Paula and Joseph C. “Rusty” Walter III Tower. https://www.tmc.edu/news/2018/11/houston-methodists-mosaic-of-medicine/ Extending Arms of Christ was created in 1963 by artist Bruce Hayes, fabricated in Florence, Italy, and then installed on the exterior western face of Houston Methodist Hospital on Fannin Street. As the hospital grew over the years, though, the mosaic became largely hidden to the public. “In the ’80s, we expanded the drop off area, built Dunn Tower in 1989 and we put in a large covered entrance so patients could come and go in a protected environment,” Sanders said. “The result of that was the mosaic, which was right above that, was obscured. … The oak trees on Fannin Street also matured and it became out of sight, out of mind.” In front of the Dunn Tower in 1989: Inside the Walter Tower decades later:
  13. The Main Building was the very first (TMC) Methodist Hospital. I did not put that together, the name totally makes sense now. Sort of like Anderson's Main Building. *Note, this may be confusing to locate because the front of the building is covered up by the Houston Methodist Dunn Tower. The building is hidden to the naked eye. Old photo I found.
  14. This was also known as The Catholic Hospital. It may be a given to some, but I didn't put Saint Elizabeth together with Catholicism Found this explanation and history: Saint Elizabeth of Hungary - In her short life, Elizabeth manifested such great love for the poor and suffering that she has become the patroness of Catholic charities and of the Secular Franciscan Order. Also, it seems all denominations of religion had their own hospital. Methodist, Catholic, Baptist, etc. Picture of the old hospital I found online:
  15. CEO of newly formed Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston eyes suburban expansion March 1, 2024 https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2024/03/01/ceo-ronald-mcdonald-house-houston-expansion.html The newly formed Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Houston — or RMHC Greater Houston — is ready to help the Houston region beyond the Texas Medical Center. The organization — which brought Ronald McDonald House Houston and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Houston/Galveston together under one entity — looks to increase its capacity and streamline its efficiency. The organization, which provides lodging and other services to families of children undergoing medical treatment, said it will continue to offer its programs for free without interruption. Prior to the merger, the two entities had worked separately from one another in the region. Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald House Charities originally launched as two separate entities in 1974 and 1984, respectively, according to a fact sheet. The first local Ronald McDonald House opened in 1981 but expanded to Holcombe House in 1997. Meanwhile, Houston’s Ronald McDonald House Charities chapter was established in 1988. Vetrano said another strategic planning retreat is planned for May 18. During this time, the full 44-member board — which consists of both boards from the once separate entities — will come together to talk about expansion efforts to other local hospitals in areas such as The Woodlands, Katy and Sugar Land, among other locations.

  17. From 1923. I wonder where the old, or previous, hospital was located? Edit: Looks like the hospital in 1919 was located at 1114 Howard Street. New Union Hospital 1618 Andrews Street Houston, Texas
  18. Love the name of this multifamily complex! 8181 Medical Center is located at 8181 Fannin Street. I stopped by last week to take a look around. The front entrance gate has a map (or site plan) of the property. Very cool, and large complex. Photos I took last week:
  19. I went to MD Anderson and walked around to find the Tom Jean Moore Rose Garden. All types and colors of roses are found at this rose garden. It's beautiful. Featuring Red, Yellow, Pink, Orange, and White roses. MD Anderson's website lists: https://www.mdanderson.org/patients-family/becoming-our-patient/while-youre-here/parks-gardens.html Tom Jean Moore Rose Garden Volunteers cut, arrange and deliver roses from this fragrant rose garden to patient rooms on a seasonal basis. Photos I took last weekend: Tom Jean Moore Rose Garden In recognition of generous funding provided through he Volunteer Endowment for Patient Support, and volunteer care of the Tom Jean Moore Memorial Rose Garden to benefit M.D. Anderson patients.
  20. The UTHealth Professional Building Parking Garage located at 6410 Fannin Street was built a decade (or 2) after the original Hermann Hospital Professional Building was built, which is located next door. I have been watching a facade remodel here. I assume it's ground floor retail? I'd guess either a pharmacy or quick-eats would be located here. Anyone know the scope here?
  21. Found a drawing of the old Brochseins factory at 3400 Washingston Ave!
  22. Information dated January 11, 2022. Texas Medical Center is currently evaluating the future operation of Garage 8, including the possible requirement of capital expenditures of taking Garage 8 out of service. If Garage 8 is taken out of service, Texas Medical Center expects any displaced parkers to be absorbed through other parking facilities within the TMC Campuses. As of the date of this Official Statement, Garage 8 is in service and is expected to remain in service through 2022.
