  1. I was looking on my phone, so I thought that was the pool on top of the garage. Once I enlarged the photo, I see my mistake. But really the placenta on the southeast corner is no better. People love the rooftop pools. (On top of the garages). The Spires pool is down low and it's depressing.

Good grief, autocorrect wrote placenta when I wanted to say placement. Forgive me.

If autocorrect wrote the wrong word, why wouldn't you just fix it without pointing it out and asking for forgiveness all in the same post?   <_<

    Doesn't make sense.

  2. I'm thankful for the photo update, but it's just grainy enough that I can't tell if they just cleaned it or if they also removed the architectural detail too. I think I can barely see it, am I right?

I'm pretty sure they are just cleaning it. At least from every aspect I can tell. At first I was thinking the same thing until I had to take a second look at some older pictures of the building.

It is pretty crazy to think a building looks one way before you take off the dirt and grime and it looks completely different after.

  3. Nope, it's a ban. Continental Airlines had to go through lengthy City Council hearings to get permission to illuminate their globe logo at the top of their building, just the globe not the name. The reason for the ban has to do with a giant 40 foot neon orange rotating Gulf sign that basically held our entire city hostage to its tackiness for about a decade in the 60's-70's.

Subdude should have a picture of it.  Actually, there's a thread on it in Historic Houston.

Instead of outright banning, why wouldn't they just need to go through an approval process since the Gulf sign was obnoxious and tacky? I think signs can be done tastefully if they are corporate logo's near the top of buildings.

I'd be more for taking down billboards that purposefully block the beautiful skyline with their tackiness than a corporate logo on a building which can show pride for a company and strength for our local economy.

  4. Crane is going up just after New Years!

Just got this in an email.

    To: Four Oaks Place Tenants

From: Four Oaks Place Management Office
    Date: December 20, 2013

Subject: Closing of Four Oaks Place Drive

On Friday January 3rd through Monday January 6th, D.E. Harvey will be assembling the crane for the Tower Five construction site. During this time, it will be necessary to close Four Oaks Place Drive. Entry to Four Oaks Place from Post Oak Boulevard will remain open. On the west end of Four Oaks Place Drive, the traffic flow will be one-way only, to allow exiting onto Post Oak Lane. To prevent any confusion during this process, D.E. Harvey will have signage installed throughout the complex and Houston Police officers will be directing traffic.
