Thanks, Not.Larry.Dierker! This one's coming along! Happy to see some density happening along Almeda. Before 288 and 59 went in, Almeda was a gem of a street.

Wow, actually a pretty ballsy move by the architect. It's very dentist-off-Gessner-1983 chic. Either s/he was like, "I've got an idea no one is doing right now! Let's go all retro SW Houston early 1980's. And, let's put it in Montrose and make it a....let's see...condo." Or, s/he was like, "Golly, I haven't worked or had a new idea in 30 years, but maybe no one will notice??" Either way, kudos to the developer and architect for coming up with a design that blows all current styles and conventions out the door! Look out Herzog and de Meuron and Zaha Hadid. The new revolution in design started right here, my friends! Print that s#*t!!

Market Square Tower: 40-Story High-Rise At 777 Preston St.
TOMIKA! replied to Urbannizer's topic in Downtown
From Bob Eury: Tomika, Thank you for your interest and letting us know of your concerns about the new residential building to the west of Market Square. The project is being developed by BMS, owner of the entire block 35 for many years. Their plans include Market Square Garage which will primarily serve the residents of the new building. In review of the plans the District took into consideration the active ground floor uses on the entire block which includes reuse of the existing retail space along Congress and Milam, new retail space along Preston and the entrance and lobby area. Total retail space in the project is over 22,000 square feet or 35% of the block, and 59% of the block will have active ground floor uses including the retail space. We support the owners' desires to have the front door on Milam Street at the park and have encouraged them on the design of the entry area to make it as open as possible. Adding 600 to 700 new residents from the building to the Market Square neighborhood will be a real boost to pedestrian activity and patronage at existing and new food and beverage establishments and other retail. Best regards,Bob Eury- 1,893 replies

I heard the name was going to be "Central Park." If that is indeed true, it will be a sad day in our fair city...

This is fantastic! I shouldn't have to be subjected to cancer-causing smoke every time I feel like grabbing a drink with a friend. It's my personal freedom!

GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.
TOMIKA! replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
Still more good news to come in the coming weeks. Groundbreaking is still scheduled for late October or early November. Unless permitting takes longer, we should start to see some dirt move pretty soon. Tenants are being added and dropped daily. The big guys are all still on board at this point and more might be on the way... -
Way to go, Downtowner!!! I wrote to them although I'm pretty sure they won't consider it right now. I think Midtown needs one or more smaller grocers that are urban in scale but still sell organic food etc. Sandy's Market is a good start.
