  1. Well tried the Berripop place and have to say not very impressed or thrilled by this addition. But guess it needs time. Just seemed like regular stuff I could get from a supermarket. Some of the local Gelato places are far better. Is Los Alamedas is anything like there old location this will be a very good addition to LaCenterra. Fit and Fresh along with Ottos sound interesting. The paper store is of no use.
  2. I've been here a while and it sure didn't seem like this years ago. Funny I moved out here years ago because old katy reminded me kind of the little town I grew up in South La. But as the years have passed and we have been swamped with PTA/Soccer mom zombie hoarde it feels like I am in the middle of a California/Dallas clone zone. I'd say it could be money but you know some of these folks don't have a pot to piss in now that these mega loans have been revoked. But the attitude of I will do what I please and my kids will do what they want still prevails. I tell you I am a people watcher and it is one hell of a show to see.
  3. Well I feel for ya CLA. I had some good friends who also waited tables during college and they would tell me the same thing you are saying. But man the things they told me they did as revenge on those family or diners was pretty nasty.
  4. BW3'S My goodness this place has none of the flavor of past BW3'S I used to frequent like Rice Village, etc. It has been suburbanized. Love their wings, etc but so far the service is still bad and the screaming children noise level was out the box this afternoon. Course that falls on the parents as it seems to be the same type of crowd that frequent's the Chili's, etc. Sit an watch as your children run around insane and throw food all over the place then calmly get up and leave with the attitude of they get paid to clean up my kids mess (Parents watched as their kid littered the floor with food and then calmly paid the bill, picked her up and left, stepping on the food as they exited the table). We had someone's kid get up this evening and just stand at our table watching us for a long period while lifting his shirt and rubbing or scratching himself on the stomach and his folks just sat there watching. I don't know if I wanted to smack the kid in the head and tell him to go sit down or get up and smack his folks for sitting by just in oblivion of what was going on with thier kids. Man summer has just started and it looks like parents are already anxiously waiting for school to start up again.
  5. Galvestonians !!!! Pose a question: What does Galveston and New Orleans have in common ? Answer: A system whereby people who learn to work the system can come and live for free the rest of their lives. I think what Niche said is correct it is all a matter of what and how much free services UTMB will dole out to bring back the public housing and indigent population. Galveston has a chance to remake itself into something very nice unlike New Orleans which choose to go back to the same old ways in many instances. I love New Orleans as I spent my whole life growing up in South La but they missed the boat after Katrina. Without all the hollywood hoopla and TV exposure NO would be in a world of hurt right now. Galveston doesn't get that exposure but they still have a chance to put things together in a better way and make the island a nice destination spot.
  6. Nicely put and thanks for the info. Makes it a little easier to understand than the He said/She said info I had been hearing from folks.
  7. You know I am curious as to how many feel toward UTMB. Been on the island for going on 11 years now or should I say we have a place we call our second home and spend much time for the past 11 years on Galveston. I have talked to about a dozen folks and seems that its 50/50 with people on whether they are happy with UTMB reopening or not. Guess the mix of folks is long time residents and weekenders for quite some time on the island. Almost all understood having UTMB was good for jobs on the island and as a teaching institution, but many felt that due to the services offered by UTMB or the percieved services they offer to the indigent population that it brings far to many of a class of people that some island residents don't want. Some residents even mentioned they noticed that since UTMB has ceased many of its services that some of the folks living in Galveston for the free stuff shall we say have gone elsewhere. I do know someone who used to be a nurse there and was told the hospital did offer free services to many which is good in a way cause not everyone can afford insurance. She said there were many cases she knew of where people actually moved to Galveston with no jobs, etc simply because they could get free health care (I cannot vouch for any truth to this as I do not know what services UTMB offers outside of teaching and regular hospital). Anyone else out there have any dealings with them.
  8. Ok just came back from Mooyahs with the family. Still trying to figure out who's smoking the crack rock. Fries were good along with the service but what do you expect when there are 15 people behind the counter and on the floor. Had the Junior burger and I have bad eyesight up close but that still didn't help them get that scrawny little patty buried under a bunch of lettuce, etc past me. That was pitiful and while it tasted ok it was not better than JR and the family thought Stadia Sports grill had a much better burger. Nothing more than Wendy's with better fries and flashy name. For the price paid and product given can't say we will be frequenting the place to often except for maybe some fries and shake. To many better places to go for burgers.
  9. Haven't eaten there but just talked to a group of people who did. I asked how was the food and all of them (5 people) said it was ok but they thought it was way overpriced for a little bit better than average burger and fries. One lady told me she was scared to even ask how fattening the meal was. They paid on average somelike $11 for burger, fries and drink. Guess it depends on what you get. All said they would probably eat there occasionally. Was packed earlier today with High Schoolers from Cinco Ranch Baseball
