  1. Spring ISD is building even more schools.

    http://www.springisd.org/default.aspx?name=oct08.ground2 - The district broke ground for three elementary schools:

    * 2200 Wittershaw Drive

    * 16855 Sugar Pine Drive

    * 15252 Grand Point Drive

    All are in the south of the district

    All three are to open in August 2009 - http://www.springisd.org/default.aspx?name=oct08.boundary

    Some of the options for the new boundaries are here http://www.springisd.org/default.aspx?name=boundary.feedback - Compare to the current boundary setup here: http://www.springisd.org/docs2/attendance/AllElem.pdf -- All three attendance boundary plans would alter the boundaries of Bammel, Beneke, Clark, Cooper, Heritage, Meyer, Ponderosa, Reynolds, Thompson.

    Spring ISD also created a five zone high school boundary map projection. By 2015 the district predicts that it will build two new high schools, with one in the south of the district and one in the north of the district: http://www.springisd.org/images/5zone1.jpg -- The district predicts there will be 3,000 students per school http://www.springisd.org/images/5zone2.jpg - A district release about this plan is here http://www.springisd.org/default.aspx?name=feb08.5zone

    Spring's Five Zone Plan pretty much dooms HS#5 of being just like Westfield. Also, opening Dekaney did nothing to bring Spring's reputation as a school district up. Having played Dekaney, it's just like its friend Nimitz about two miles down the road. HS #5 will be nice architecturally but it's getting the bottom part of the district bordering the Eisenhower zone. I think if families start moving into Spring again, they will want to move into the HS#4 zone, because it seems like it will become the districts premier school if they go with the five zone plan.

  2. I had gotten a email about the Reid Memorial United Methodist Church located at 5203 Fulton, Houston,Texas. It had at one time a cemetery next to it called BROOKS CEMETERY. The church decided to expand around the 1940's so family of the deceased were asked to move their loved ones. Most were moved, some were not. Mary E. Peterson said her Grandfather William Henry Shackelford born 1883 ARK died in Houston 1913 is buried there. The problem is the church has no records. Where her grandfather is buried is covered over with a building and a paved driveway.

    1. Would any one know how old the church building is?

    2. Would any one know of or has heard of the Brooks Cemetery.

    3. How could I find out what was located at this location back before 1940?

    Thanks for any help.

    1. Have you tried asking the church? This may sound dumb but they probably do know how old their building is if this is what you want.

    2. You could try looking for William Henry Shackleford's death certificate to confirm that their was a cemetery named Brooks Cemetery and that it was in Houston. You could also ask the church if you could look through some of their old records, because I know churches that have records from cemeteries on their property.

    3. Again, go ask the church, or look up public records dealing with the piece of land at 5203 Fulton. Anyway you want, it will take some research.

    Hope I could help, and hope you find what you are looking for. (What are you looking for?)

  3. It's funny. As a non-threatening black male I often get pegged as sary too ... I see it all the time. Women clutch their purses and men look at me warily.

    Funny. I am a professional who works everyday (all my adult life), has NEVER been in trouble with the law, has a house in the 'burbs, but I can still be pegged as 'scary' to some.

    I feel the same way since I'm a black male. People always think I'm a thug because I go to an Aldine school and get bad grades, when in reality that's not the case at all.

  4. /\ I agree. I shop at Willowbrook and took drivers ed there at Sears. Not once has there been really any criminal activity going on. You never hear about it on the news, and there really aren't that many "thugs" who shop there. Well there are some, but all they are doing is walking around. Not breaking into stores and holding them up.
