  1. name one team that would rather have Carr starting than their starting QB - injured situations don't count for ex. Jeff Garcia since McNabb is hurt. Texans could make a play for Matt Schaub, current backup behind Vick in Atlanta. Young QB, with a couple of years experience, though on the bench. Was a 3rd round pick I believe.
  2. I don't think the trend had passed. I was hoping they would eventually open up a second location closer to downtown even. For lunch, for some reason no one I know of had sandwiches as good as theirs. Even though it seems like it shouldn't be complicated, they actually used good meats, had good bread, and I never have found anywhere else that seems to do it as well. While upscale, it was the closest thing to a take out place I know of. hopefully someone sees there is a market for it and opens a similar concept around houston. It was always pretty busy when I went there.
  3. This sucks, I liked Eatzi's. Hopefully they'll open another one soon, I don't think there was a lack of business: Eatzi's Closes
  4. Uh, drive around that land sometime - there's townhomes and lofts already sprouting up everywhere. I would probably guess that in the last year and a half at least 200-300 have been built in the area. Yes, a lot of empty lots still, but the difference between that and say, what the 4th Ward used to be, is that developers, if they so cared to can already just pop in and buy the land without having to kick anyone out. A stadium, if designed poorly, would probably just deaden that progress as you have a lot of people asking, "why would anyone want to live next to that"?
  5. Dean's and Clark's are two different places. Dean's is still around - I like that place.
  6. Wow, Chili's thats awesome. I mean I know I look at all the restaurants inside the loop, with variety and are locally operated and a unique experience, and just wish a Chili's would come in. Nothing like pretending I was in the woodlands when there is something much, much better just down the street..... I'll be curious to hear which best buy rumor is true - half the people think its going by Gulfgate and half think its going in the Sawyer Heights area. How is the mattress/ cheap shoe market not saturated yet? Do people buy new matresses every 3 months?
  7. I knew it had to happen eventually - I loved going to this place because it was one of the prettiest bars in my opinion. the huge ceiling, brick walls, I really liked it. But there was never anyone in there. Sometimes that was nice when I wanted to just have a drink at the bar in peace, but sometimes you at least want someone else in there. I never understand some of these places that people obviously spend a lot of money to make but can't seem to either find a promoter to fill the place more or to be able to attract enough regulars to stay open. I can't say I went regularly, but I did go enough to where I wish it was able to have somehow stayed open.
  8. Don't know if this article got posted already but looks like some retail is trying to get in - don't know how much longer its going to be until the Sazowitz building gets built out, but at least there are retailers in place waiting to lease it out. Downtown Retail
  9. Its a tidy $6 if I remember correctly during Dynamo games. One of the few things about the whole experience that is expensive.
  10. More eateries announced for HP - I think most of these were discussed before as being part of the project, but always good to hear things confirmed. And semipro will be on shortly to once again say the project will never happen: Restaurants added I'm curious to hear some retail announced though.
  11. This is the XO I was talking about - looks like similar names, because XO is such a creative name: XO
  12. Houstonian I think I remember you saying you are not a smoker correct? I'm just asking, how often do you frequent bars? Will this stop you from going into bars? Does this affect your life in any way, shape or form? I know you have a right to an opinion, but you are almost acting as if they are enacting a mandatory herpes injection upon entry to a bar. However, I would ask if you think the majority of americans (or houstonians) are smokers or non smokers. My guess would be something like 70% non/ 30% smokers. So doesn't the majority get some kind of say here + don't you think people at one point said the idea of banning smoking on planes or in an office was stupid as well? It doesn't set any precedent that didn't already exist anyway, its just furthering that precedent. The battle has already been lost on smokers rights, just look at the taxes and cost for a pack versus 5-6 years ago. I personally am thrilled about the ban.
  13. What bothers me about front Porch is the prices sometimes. I understand getting a $4-$5 beer price on a Fri/ Sat, but I hate going on a Tuesday night and having no specials. And specials only on Bud Light once a week doesn't really count. Its like having a sale on bottled water.
  14. Why would we want the stadium to be further out of the city? It doesn't make sense, it is nice that currently all three sports stadiums are inside the loop and all relatively accesible by the current rail. Not to mention, why would a stadium further out spur development while the current one sits on a spot that has existed since 1965 and not spurred development. The Arizona one, while I'm not familiar with, is allegedly out in the middle of nowhere. I think the "development" it has spurred is eateries and bars for people to go to when they are at the game. Otherwise, I don't know what else has developed there.
  15. I'm not a fan of the Roof at all. It got the LA type layout right, its just the crowd that sucks. A lot of people looking for fights. Plus its billed as a Rock and Roll bar, but I also heard some Jon Secada there once. Uh, something doesn't add up. The view on the Roof is awesome though, the main reason to go to say the least. Epic is basically in the corner of one of the Vietnamese shopping centers close to there. Nice interior, even though it looks like Ikea. Not a bad place, but that was just one time I went there. Also XO Lounge also opened up, I did like it there even if there weren't many people there yet. Very friendly staff and a cheap happy hour.
  16. I for one am hoping very strongly this passes - I think it will this time with the restaurant association supporting it this go round. I'm hoping the days of coming home reeking of smoke are a thing of the past.
  17. And win today - luckily we have Roy O today, we need him to go late in the game after a night like last night. He's a gamer, I think we should be ok today. At worst, we need the Brewers to win 1 and we sweep. This would force the Cards to play the make up game against San Fran on Monday. If they lose that, we tie for the season, a win and they are in. At the very least, I want them to have to earn this thing, so here's hoping we sweep the Braves.
  18. Yeah I'm not quite sure what this post means - the Minister of defense, Super Bowl winning, hall of famer Reggie White did not produce much? Do you mean he didn't produce much when he retired? Wow. Its like saying Barry Sanders didn't do much more than Wali Lundy did. DJ your quote earlier was "It's expected that Williams would not have a good first year" - here's a few other quotes
  19. Trust me, I try not to get caught into Semipro's nonsense. Especially considering he thought that the Redskins game would come down to a field goal. Then he comes out and says he's always right. That all being said, the number one selling line behind taking Mario #1 was to take someone that would have an "immediate" impact on the defense. That was why he was brought here - not to be a project, not to have some rough seasons before blossoming, it was an immediate impact move (allegedly). If he was not going to be able to succeed this season, regardless of the rest of the line or whatever, they should not have taken him. His impact this season = 0. He's already making excuses about being double and triple teamed all game, which is not true. If you look at his college starts, this should already have been known, his best games always came against far inferior competition. Maybe it is early to use the word "bust", but he does get a F for season to date because he wasn't supposed to have growing pains. Tonight, the Texans will hear about Bush about 1,000 times. regardless if he has a good game or not, he is playing in prime time tonight and the announcers will be sure to bring up passing on him again and again.
  20. None of their locations stay open late. It is not a late night diner for drunks either. I know the east location has never been open for dinner except maybe one day a week. I've been to the midtown district 7 during lunch and it gets plenty of business. I don't think that people are having a problem finding it. If you look at the menu, you can tell its not exactly a stumble in at 2 in the morning, order greasy eggs kind of place.
  21. No offense, but can we give it a rest with the school zoning in every single post? I don't think this is anyone's number one concern with this project...
  22. Cotton Exchange has already re-opened. This was around a few years ago, but closed, and now has since remodeled some and back in operation. It will also house Seattles Best Coffee in a few weeks (possibly already) and then be open during the day as well. the place on Franklin and main I remember being mentioned in the Chronicle once, but don't remember that the name was either. I'm gald you mentioned the cross streets because I remember reading about it, but then not remembering where it was located. I'll have to check it out.
  23. They already did once - the one at San felipe is inside the loop. However, i do get your point, you mean more inside the city than just close to the Galleria.
  24. And once again MiDTOWNeR creeps out to provide such great commentary on why the state of new jersey is really an underrated source of well spoken people and a jewel in the mind of people everywhere. That and also taking away the crown of most negative person from houstonsemipro.
